aye looks much like the journey cap Townsend carries.
A monmouth cap would be more appropriate to the GAoP. THose were worn well before period. Tis always safer to go earlier rather than later. Our own GOF has them avalible on occassion. Tis also an easy knittin project even for the beginners amongst us.

aye, me little swabs birthday just last Sunday was pirate themed.
The invitations were on aged paper with burnt edges. I used text from an old advertisement for privateers with some of the words changed around. We had a treasure hunt, designing our own colors & treasure maps & played a rousing game of "captain says". We ate baked potato boats & orange juice for lunch. We set up our canoe as a pirate ship for the crew to play on. The sandbox served as the beach for them to storm. The cake was shaped like a treasure chest. Each crew member got a bag of loot with necklaces, coins, jewels & pirate tattoos to take home.
Dinna have any grog though. Wouldn't want to send the little swabs home drunk.

Presenting the Blue Dawg.
She's really a canoe fixed up for the little swabs to play pirates on.

House Style Chili. My verson is all red beans & chopped tomatoes with some onions, garlic & any red/yellow peppers I have on hand. Served over brown rice. Mostly though I just like the red beans.
Now a shepards pie, that sounds good. I think I'll add that to the grocery list for tomorrow.

I noticed the red tricorn first thing after the lovely blue coat. Everything else I had to hunt for.
Is that monkey riding a bear? Interesting picture indeed.

I know that eye glasses were invented well before the GAoP yet I don't seem to find many references to them during the period. I also can't recall seeing any images with someone wearing or even holding them. I am hoping that some of the more studious might be able to assist me in this tidbit of research.

2 days from celebrating the little Swabbies first birthday. Twas quite chaotic in our house at the time.

"spoob" Exactly the term I've been searching for to describe this interesting phenomenon.
Now what is it called from behind?

Be ye a successful gambler or one who's down on his luck? Dressing as a man is quite simple really. The hardest part is hiding ones female "assets".

Surely you have a gift good Captain Enigma. Such fine craftsmanship is visable in the photos. I can only imagine what they must be like in ones own hands.
My thanks to the others for the reading suggestions. I would sincerly enjoy having a better understanding of the tools & techniques of navigation without the "bells & whistles" of modern technology.

I owe a great debt to Madame Actress for telling me of this wonderful event. I even have the good fortune to have family near by to stay with whilst in port. The what to wear debate rages though. What better excuse for something new does one need?

Captain, are the raw edges of the brown coat left unhemmed as well as the black coat? This is a detail I have never heard of previously. It comes as a great boon to me, honestly hemming the bottoms is my least favorite task.
The black coat is especially beautiful, the trim is outstanding. I already had plans to purchase the RH patterns but seeing that fabulous coat has sealed the deal. I only hope my limited skills can do them the justice your work has.
I look forward to seeing the other Crew makeovers.

What the perfect thread for a new commer like myself to find. Such inspiration & creativity in everyones colors. Some of the designs have such fine line work involved, I'm wondering how much is being done on a graphics program vs by hand & scanned? I've never gotten particularly good with the graphics and am in a bit of awe.
Thank you all very much for sharing.

::Stunned silence::
Upon regaining composure Crazy Chole begins to grin in the manor that earned her the name.
"Twill take a storm of immense proportions to keep me away!" she stammers before racing off to begin planning.

Tis a fabulous idea Sirs. Might it be possible to share images of these logs whilst they are in progress? 'Tould be a fine inspiration for others to follow.

The favorite around these parts is "All for Me Grog". Not certain as to it's pyratical authenticity but tis about drink as any good song should be. There are seemingly endless versions brought up with a search.
words and music Traditional
Chorus V1: Well it's all for me grog, me jolly jolly grog
It's all for me beer and tobacco
For I spent all me tin on the lassies drinking gin
Far across the western ocean I must wander
Chorus V2: Well it's all for me grog, me jolly jolly grog
It's all for me beer and tobacco
Well I spent all me tin with the lassies drinking gin
& I think I'll have to sober up tomorrow
Chorus V3: Well it's all for me grog, me jolly jolly grog
It's all for me beer and tobacco
For I spent all me loot in a house of ill repute
& I think I'll have to go back there tomorrow
Verses:
Where are me boots, me noggin', noggin' boots?
They're all gone for beer and tobacco
For the heels they are worn out and the toes are kicked about
And the soles are looking out for better weather
Where is me shirt, my noggin', noggin' shirt?
It's all gone for beer and tobacco
For the collar is all worn, and the sleeves they are all torn
And the tail is looking out for better weather
I'm sick in the head and I haven't been to bed
Since first I came ashore with me slumber
For I spent all me dough on the lassies movin' slow
Far across the Western Ocean I must wander
Where is me bed, me noggin' noggin bed
It's all gone for beer and tobacco
Well I lent it to a whore and now the sheets are all tore
And the springs are looking out for better whether.
Where is me wench, me noggin' noggin' whence
She's all gone for beer and tobacco
Well her (clap) is all worn out and her (clap) is knocked about
And her (clap) is looking out for better whether.
Where is me man, me noggy noggy man?
He's all gone for beer and tobacco
Well he spends all his time with the women and the wine
So I think that I shall push him over yonder
Finally the lyric by me little Swab is in my sig. She was but 5 when it was written. I wager she'll make a fine pyrate one day.

Seeing that you are so close to the Midwest area, CrazyChole...are you thinking of attending the Reenactor Fest II this February? We'd love to see more of your group there!
Forgive me Madame Actress, I am but now getting my sea legs & have not heard of this event. Where might I find more of the, surely much coveted information?
-
Damn me eyes, such a fine looking crew and sailing so close to my own home port even. Yer gown is amazing Madame Actress. Might I enquire as to the fabric. 'Tis most beautiful.

TLAPD is my grandmother's birthday. I wonder how she'd react if I attend dinner that night in full garb? I wouldn't be the strangest thing I've worn to a family function. Otherwise I usually annoy the Swabbie with my Argh's and Avasts all day long.

Such wonderful garb everyone. Makes me feel a might inadaquate. I'm sorely lacking in weapons if nothing else.
Here's the beginings of a kit I whipped up for myself this spring before heading to the Port Washington Pirate Fest here in Wisconsin. These were taken after 2 full days of wear & entirely too much driving.
I've since shrunk out of the bodice which is a shame. It was a lot of work to sew! It is however a wonderful excuse to make another one. The hat has already been passed down to my little swabbie.
