^ 18-24 pretty much rocked ^^ I like the Whiz Kids "Pirates" game (although it's technically boardless). Thinking up new house rules for our drinking games at the cottage this summer. < Waiting for the delivery guy from Buddha House V Ever think you wasted (part of) your youth?
  3. Slippery when wet, eh?
  4. Ah, Maggie, you're a pirate after my own heart! Is there a recorded version of that song that I could hear somewhere?
  5. Hmmm... let me think ... do I prefer bad boys or surfer boys? Oh, why not experience the best of both worlds and have a surfer bad boy? Oh, Jo-oe... where are you, honey?
  6. Chocolate crepes with strawberries and whipped cream -- for breakfast.
  7. I'm tempted too! Even though I'd require scopolamine patches.
  8. Southbrook Winery's "Framboise"
  9. I dreamt last night that I was sitting on Jeff Tweedy's lap in a Lazy Boy chair, watching Stargate: Atlantis on a big-screen TV. (Not so surprising really. I'd been at a Wilco concert earlier that evening [which was brilliant], and discussing with my friend C. how surprisingly charismatic Tweedy is, although not exactly "handsome" in the usual sense. And the picture tube of my elderly little TV here in the city is dying, so I need to shop for a new TV. And I'm looking forward to catching up on Season 3 of Stargate: Atlantis on satellite at the cottage this summer.)

  12. Indeed, Maureen! It's even a holiday long weekend up here across the northern border, and it looks like the weather will be gorgeous. Woo-hoo! Bring on the Corona! [Okay, I know Molson Canadian is more traditional for Canada Day, but we're a very multi-cultural country.] Tomorrow night, I'm having dinner at a Vietnamese restaurant (that I've been told serves Corona), and then we're going to a Canadian landmark, Massey Hall, to see an American band, Wilco. http://www.myspace.com/wilco
  13. Hips are getting plumper. Bloody Pimm's! (not to mention the lemonade). Like Blue Puppy, I need to get back to my daily walking routine. I've had so many excuses not to exercise lately: summer cold, migraine, smog warnings, and just plain laziness.
  14. Any chance that the Whydah road show might make a stop at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto as part of its tour? I'd love to see these exhibits.
  15. The mincing step that Black Syren mentioned may not have been so much an "affectation" as a practical necessity given the highly impractical fashionable footwear that Fops would be drawn to. No sensible footwear for the proper Fop! A literary example of this would be the pirate captain Bilbo in George MacDonald Frasier's satirical novel Pyrates. [Hmmm... I must get my own copy of that and re-read it again this summer. Last time, I borrowed it from the library.] Indeed, this penchant for impractical footwear seems to be the source of the character's name, as "bilboes" were a type of foot-shackle. Does anyone have their copy to hand and care to quote the passage describing how much Bilbo suffers for his fashionable [stolen] shoes? And I recall reading elsewhere (in Richard Zacks' Pirate Hunter , I think) that the stereotype of the pirate who liked to dress in flashy stolen finery is quite accurate. I believe he also mentioned that the footwear they wore ashore was often very elegant, but usually ill-fitting and uncomfortable as it had been plundered from some rich Fop who crossed their path, rather than bought to fit. Enjoyed the discussion/pictures of the Red-heeled shoes. Thanks for that info, Tess & Sterling.
