Amanjiria, 'Clocking' a stocking means embroidering the ankle of the stocking where a 'gusset'/wedge has been added to give it shape. Here are a few examples from the Textile Museum in Barcelona - these are an example 18th century pale pink silk stockings with delicate, fine metal clocks. Nice detailed example...

Do not get me wrong Captain....'Tis not that I cannot sing. I do have a splendid voice...yet, just like MadMary....it is that I do not care to in public..especially a lone. I do love to sing if someone where to sing with me... Perhaps Silkie and I can muster a tune or two?

Is it EVEN possible?! Well, I had all the intentions of doing a lecture this year, but I've been told that my lecture isn't needed at RF 4 due to the fact that we've over booked for the year... Though I am sure that I am going to very, very busy doing other things that weekend, I should be happy. This is A GOOD THING! I never thought this would be possible that so many people want to jump on the band wagon to help out and sign up for lectures, demos and the like. Rule number one...One should not wait until the last moment to make inquires...it pays to book early...(something I should have done back in March or April)! Oh well...perhaps next time!

Great Song, LongTom...this is a personal fav of mine... Wassail! wassail! all over the town, Our toast it is white and our ale it is brown; Our bowl it is made of the white maple tree; With the wassailing bowl1, we'll drink to thee Here's to our horse, and to his right ear, God send our master a happy new year: A happy new year as e'er he did see, With my wassailing bowl I drink to thee. So here is to Cherry and to his right cheek Pray God send our master a good piece of beef And a good piece of beef that may we all see With the wassailing bowl, we'll drink to thee. Here's to our mare, and to her right eye, God send our mistress a good Christmas pie; A good Christmas pie as e'er I did see, With my wassailing bowl I drink to thee So here is to Broad Mary and to her broad horn May God send our master a good crop of corn And a good crop of corn that may we all see With the wassailing bowl, we'll drink to thee. And here is to Fillpail and to her left ear Pray God send our master a happy New Year And a happy New Year as e'er he did see With the wassailing bowl, we'll drink to thee. Here's to our cow, and to her long tail, God send our master us never may fail Of a cup of good beer5: I pray you draw near, And our jolly wassail it's then you shall hear. Come butler, come fill us a bowl of the best Then we hope that your soul in heaven may rest But if you do draw us a bowl of the small Then down shall go butler, bowl and all. Be here any maids? I suppose here be some; Sure they will not let young men stand on the cold stone! Sing hey O, maids! come trole back the pin, And the fairest maid in the house let us all in. Then here's to the maid in the lily white smock Who tripped to the door and slipped back the lock Who tripped to the door and pulled back the pin For to let these jolly wassailers in.

In dark guise of night, a small figure walked the lonely path to the jail. The shadows of the tottering figure slow made it's way up to the front gates. The guard's eyes glanced down at the small, frail looking woman. "Here, what ye want?" Patchment was passed. "Wait here....I'll see if he's in." Gates opened and the guard walked off to send word to the notes adressee.

Wellllllll yah..... Yer point ? .......... Well, er...no point really, Patrick. Never really considered "Bess" to be a looker. She's a good domestic and does what is expected of her. How can you be attractive when you're elbow deep in sh*@! most of the time? Chamber pots are not her favorite!

Just some of the many chores I done while in port at the Jamestown settlement... When I arrived I quickly got to work. I don't think the men-folk knew what hit them! Remember, the time period for the Jamestown settlement is WAY BEFORE women came to the new land. I be fetching water I be sweep'n the common house I be cooking I be doin' the laundry In all honesty, the Docents were wonderful to us. They let us indulge bit with our cameras. They are wonderful for letting us do so.

A bit far north for that additude aren't you lass? Believe me it's not by choice that we continue to live here. Although it could be worse, we could be in Buffalo or Syracuse. LOL! Ladies...I lived in Syracuse for almost 20 years....and yes, we've had times that the National Gaurd had to be called out and 'dig out' the city! That is the one thing I do miss about how Upstate NY handle the snow storms. Here...they do very little prep work on the roads and highways until AFTER the storm... Foolish in my book! When a storm is coming you get your arses out there and start the prep work (sand/salt/...whatever)! As for the white stuff...I love it!
