  1. Odds are there is some sort of garter whether leather, silk or some other type of cord...and his stockings are pulled up over the knees of his breeches, a popular style at the time, and not tucked under the ends. I wear my stockings in such a way and get exactly the same look.
  2. Unfortunately even if it was fashionable in the late 18th century doesn't mean it was even common in the early 18th century.
  3. Machine knit, c. 1720 Found: http://www.german-ho.../Bild10_06a.htm Make note: most of the striped cuff stockings I am coming across are Italian or German, not English, or Colonial. They are also silk. So some stripes, but nothing all over in the 17th century or early 18th century as of yet.
  4. both dated as 17th century Found: http://www.german-ho...schichte_09.htm but then this only shows the very cuff of the stocking so it does not support the all over stripe. Still looking for the link to the site these were posted on. Next pair found: http://educators.mfa...=41&pageSize=80 Museum of Fine Arts, Boston The Elizabeth Day McCormick Collection Accession number: 43.1943a-b
  5. Oi did ye see that German site with the 17th century striped silk stockings? Granted it was only the very top of the stocking....
  6. So has anyone come across an actual period recipe yet or is everyone still guesstimating?
  7. Nice Eye, all set for Searles if ye like, just ditch the striped stockings, they are prohibited there...
  8. Honestly, from talking to Munk it was all Lockhouse's idea, that is why Munk stepped down from running the event. Things were already changing the year the original Lockhouse folks left. They were great supporters of the history side of things and really bent over backwards to help.
  9. Honestly it appears that most, hangings, pirate or not, as well as other styles of execution, were quite the event...
  10. Not a problem ...didn't notice the dual post either until after.
  11. see here. Munk is no longer running the event. Crimson Corsair is now in charge. Lockhouse wants more of a pirate type festival, it is no longer aimed at being strictly historical. http://pyracy.com/in...890#entry408890
  12. Damnation Dutch yer starting to sound like cousin robbie.
  13. Right then, Munk has turned the event over to Crimson Corsair as the Lockhouse wanted to change venues from strictly historical to more of an inclusive pirate festival. Historical types are still welcome and Munk may go and play for the day depending on who is up for it...but he is no longer running the event.
  14. I have put in a message to Munk to see what he may know as he took over the event from Blackjohn for last year. I do know that he is extremely busy with a 150th anniversary of a hardcore tiger group from the civil war...so I am not so certain he has a hand in this year's Lockhouse... will let ye know as soon as I can...he doesn't play on the computer much. If I don't hear back within the week, I will ring him.
  15. Knitted hat, thick wool, Copenhagen, late 16th or first half of 17th century, National Museum of Denmark
  16. There was a stylus and nib in the Whydah exhibit as well... anyone have a photo of that? We were not permitted to take photos. I was pleased to see it as it looked very much like more modern nibs and the the nib was a separate piece held into a shaft very much like a port-a-crayon... According to the display, these were made of brass
  17. Beautiful! And I at least smoke William
  18. Interesting...I remember trying to ....em..converse with her,(T'was dark out and the being blind thing never helps)...ahem... and I came up behind her whilst she was sitting behind, I think it was Callenish's tent (we were still on the beach)...so I don't recall the condition of her dress, but could it have been used by a person? (Hard to tell from the photos) As if it were taken from Becky for someone in need to wear for some event other than Ft. Taylor?
  19. Odd, and such a shame after all the work ye put into the pair. Um is not Becky supposed to look female?
