NOTE: the light green should really be the same green as the dark green, BUT I thought it would be easier for you to see it if I made the colour slightly lighter.

Best of success with it and feel free to ask any questions... there is always someone here able to help

Ah this poor thing... its mate was killed the morning after we arrived. A falcon struck it just above my head, I could actually feel the motion in the air, whilst I was cleaning out the trailer... and landed two feet from me... sad, but incredibly beautiful to see the falcon in action and that bloody close...

Grand! We can go back and listen to Mr. Beasley promote alcoholism all over again...

Cheeky's eyes narrow and look towards the surgeon with much abomination. "You're lucky that I like you....I'll kill you last!" I like Grace's expression... "OMG, the captain's mistress is out walking around naked... again.... Omg, omg"

stays and other female costume questions...
Capt. Sterling replied to withoutaname's topic in Crafting Kit
Ohh didn't know it was a secret.... oops! I thought it was the smartest thing I'd heard in weeks. You took a load off my mind by sharing that...didn't mean to out ya. I work and am too busy if i had to sew it all by hand it would be a year before I could wear it. Still, I plan on doing a little hand work as well - maybe even some embroidery. And I have some handmade lace my grandmother made, yards of it, just waiting for the right thing to put it on. Kate you used a machine for those channels didn't you? That would have taken a heck of a lot longer than 4 hours. more like 4 days at the least. Curious about Cheeky's question about the cane reed is it tough on your hands? Yeah I'm the only arse that sews everything, inside and out, by hand, depending on who tis for... but I have been doing it for so long now, that hand sewing goes pretty darn fast... -
Damnation!

Matty pm Haunting Lily... she and Edward have found a rather good supplier and cheaper than most... Edward does a lot of rope work and has been rather pleased with the product... BTW, introduce yerself... both Lily and Edward are now part of the crewe

..I thought I read somewhere french seams were not used during this period? If they were, then I am ecstatic! Especially as I do not know how to sew flat felled seams just yet. I haven't done any research on seams and when they come in and out of usage... But a good deal of my clothing for this period is French seamed. As for Flat Fell seaming, This Page has the best instructions online that I have found. The diagrams helped me learn flatfelling rather well years ago... I'm just happy the web page has stayed up this long! I am photographing a flat felled seam now, unfortunately tis dark fabric so I don't know how well it will show up... but will post in the petticote thread

Hmmm good question... you see this done on later 18th century shifts/smocks... unfortunately I only have the one line drawing from our time frame and it does not show this... although if one were to fit a larger waisted woman, one might consider tapering the upper shoulder or else it may end up way too big around the neck.... so did they do it for GAoP... not sure... The second shift photo posted... "Looks" as if it could be, but without seeing it laid out flat and up close, can't be certain at all...

If you have reenacted before and done corsetry prior, I would HIGHLY recommend Waugh's Corsets and Crinolines book and use the corset pattern from that instead... -
**looks at her strangley** THAT will be the day! What do ye think I am a coward like Stede Bonnet? Trying to escape dressed like a woman? Not I! Maddogge maybe but Not I... I'll ...ahem ... sneak out of ...trouble.... um... some other way....like ...under a woman's petticotes... maybe... or a leap ...ahem.. from a wife's bedroom window...ah...trust me, hiding under the bed does not work....ack...ahem... And...ahem... I be broke due to monkeys, tutors, and silks fer Sarah... do not ye go believing that Rose actually pays fer the maid's upkeep...
-

Cheeky smiling...."Fer me, Captain? Is it blue...Do tell!" Tis blue but nay, tis not fer ye
