For those of you who have boarded a plane with period weaponry: Is it possible to just simply pack a blade in the bottom of your luggage to check in or do you need to fill out forms and paper work? What is required to travel by air with a weapon to attend an event?

stepping out the comfort zone seems like an easy thing for someone dressed like a pirate. Honestly I think that is the hardest thing to do, especially if you don't know anyone at an event.

We are staying at a B&B on Anastasia Island. I believe there is a second, smaller fort you can reach by boat from Anastasia Island. Okay gang, what about dressing as a pirate and visiting some of the sites? Good idea or crazy?

I'm headed to St. Augustine this September. Anything beside the fort(s) that are a must see? Any places for eating that are tasty?

While not a "pirate" movie but still remains in the time period I suggest "Rob Roy". Best fight scene ever!

Just finished "Everyday Life in Early America" by David Freeman Hawke. Covered some interesting things I never new about colonial life. I never knew that the main farming technique was to cut a ring around a tree to kill it, thus the following year it will produce no leaves and create no canopy allowing light to reach the floor. Planting was then done around the dead tree. Little effort was made to remove the trees since the task was labor intensive and oxen a rare beast. The book also describes the labor that went into the creation of a saw mill and later a grist mill. Well written and an easy read.

Didn't the poor munkey get badly burned by the board of the Port Washington Pirate Festival?

I own a pair of the Gurkee rope sandals. I've worn them on the beach in Florida and in the Caribbean many times and they have been exceptionally comfortable. Mine don't have a piece that goes between the toes. I have noticed shells and bits of coral do get stuck in the bottom of the sandals.

Let me know if you manage to pull it together... I'd love to help! I had a good time at Port Washington. Sorry to see it go.

Love to see you develop Port Washington's Pirate Festival but I get the feeling this event is now all about the money. Unless someone with deep pockets appears I doubt the event will return.

Also outside the time frame of the GAOP but interesting is a French film entitled "Ridicule". Really interesting plot and story.

Quite by accident I discovered the at least part, if not all of the British Masterpiece series: The First Churchills is on Youtube! This series follows the life of John Churchill, the first Duke of Marlborough. Great costumes!

Just noticed that "Perfume" is on Netflix. This film is a little outside the GAOP but very well done. The scenes in Paris on the filthy streets are amazing! Well worth a watch!

I was able to purchase the entire 1st season on DVD and I really enjoyed it. Without too many spoilers let me say that when a Spanish War Ship opens fire it is freakishly amazing and horrible!

Watched a really wonderful period film entitled "Belle" last night. While outside of the GAOP it really deserves a viewing. the story is about a mixed race girl born to an officer in the British Navy who he takes back to England to be raised as his heir by his uncle. In is set at the time of the Zong Massacre. Might be a little tough to find on DVD but very enjoyable.

Yeah the sex is much too raw in Black Sails. I think the people behind these series believe the average person is only going to watch for the T&A and not the story. Buried under the all the nakedness is a good exciting story! My reason for watching Black Sails.

Are you thinking of a more period bag or one that may hold other modern accessories such as medication, band aids, car keys, etc...? It can be pretty tricky hiding modern items you frequently need amid a pirate kit.

That could be a fine gift!
