  3. Went through that last year... A Spiritual conviction brought me about to even cutting off my beard and coming damn close to taking everything in the Pirate cove, putting it on a trailer, and selling it at swap meet for cut rate prices just to rid myself of it all. Frankly Eye enjoy being around people who cosplay pirate, reenacting or Hollywood.. Not having anything to replace the time, energy, eye spend on this hobby ( and the excitement Eye am addicted to ), sorta kept me here. It truly is a Stranglehold I Love.. Hee HEe thats twisted , but hey ! However, Some Jealousy from those who Eye thought were my friends entered the picture and eye get sniped on, is something eye care not for,,,, so the fun wanes quickly. Eye quit one group that eye loved and was a member of for many years due to Martial issues that eye did not want to hear murmurers about. All the other reasons have already been sited so eye will not repeat them here.
  4. "Mission Wrote" I heard Beads were actually used as currency during GAOP in North America and was known as Wampum. http://www.nativetec...m/wamphist.htm. Now Eye have no source about Pirates trading with American Indians , however Beads have been traded as well as shells even for hundreds of years before pirates ever arrived on the scene. The Spanish landed in the Caribbean in 1492.. ( Columbus ) by 1500 The indigenous Indians in the greater West Indies had been wiped out or enslaved. There were no Arawak Indians left. The PIRATES could not have even been known by them let alone traded with them. However we do know Pirates bartered. Don’t we ? In Western Africa, shell money was used as legal tender up until the mid 19th century. as well as many island nations. My Source is Wikipedia but again no direct connection to pirates wearing beads or using shells as currency when they were at sea or visiting a foreign port.. I have an interest in this as eye wear them with my " Hollywood Authentic " impression . The One national Geographic series on Pirates..all the English actors/re-enactors were wearing beads and beards. Eye thought that interesting because eye remember the discussion on beards on this board, it was deemed that most pirates did not have facial hair..
  5. Harr Candy is SEXIER ! AS if that was possible ~ LoL
  6. Damn that would go well with my minimalism sailor reenactment togs.
  7. Funny you are writing this and eye just saw this post... I have been in the process of writing an article concerning reenactment as well.. For Mutiny Magazine.. A snap shot of Toshiba Tall Ships and a Reenactment group of Brits. " Looks like all the salts here have already answered up so No need to repeat them from my own hand.

  13. Eye was at Toshiba Tall Ships Festival as the Gunner with the Jolly Boat pirates in port, at Dana Point CA. We were performing against the a British Group who are the (Naval Historical Foundation) to free our captain Jean Laffette. We were using Black Powder extensively through out this skit both on the Jolly Boat and on board the Pilgrim ( Which stayed in port during the incident ) and were supervised very closely by the coast guard whom kept other boaters in the area away from us during our performances. So we had a bunch of fun on Saturday. However, by Early Sunday Morning, word reached us, that the Ocean institutes Black Powder Permit had been pulled which kinda put the kabosh on our performance..The Shows went on anyhow with out BP and we went on with the boarding action, sword fighting and shouting..improvising the best we could. Of Note is that we were committed to safety and did nothing wrong, yet were adversely affected by some one else actions, most likely due to lack of training. The Ocean institute use to out source all BP firings off their ships by a friend eye know who has a licence and the experience to do this stuff safely. However in order to save money, the institute let him go a few years ago and thought to train their sail crew to perform BP duties. This incident sorta points out the fact Why there is the designation/position of Gunner on board a ship, whose soul attention was weapons/ordinance and not sailing a ship. Personally eye think the distractions can be many if you are being duely charged with responsibilities. It makes no sense to me why live ammo was present at the institute or on Board a tall Ship. Any how, more importantly was that no one was seriously hurt in the incident during the cannon battles they have out at sea, but two persons were in fact sprayed with what they think was Bird shot during the Tall ships cannon battles at sea. Here is the link to the article about this mishap. http://losangeles.cb...ships-festival/

  18. Eye have had fun with the plank as a gag at fairs.. Eye was playing the Girls Liars dice and lost my wager.. My punishment was to walk the plank! The real experience, was on the Wolf during PIP 2009 Walk the plank contest. Alot of us here on this web site jumped with the prompting of a cutlass. The link to that is on this web site buried with other treasures. Even though eye know it is not period thar are some things eye like for entertainment purposes. The Plank is one of them.
