  1. Welcome to ya, mate. I be a new to the Pub meself, still, but can tell ya it be a fine place to down a mug full and dance the night away. Best watch out for ol' Diego—he cracks himself up on occation! But he be a smooth talker and knows what a lady likes to hear. Although, it appears you have no shortage of fine words yourself. So, gramercy for the drink. Ray, I'll have me usual, French bubbly with a tot of rum.
  2. Not having the voluptuous figure of Rummy3—almost flat as a plank, as you would say—I wore a pin on my bodice that read "A am turned around!" Sigh. There is a song lyric that I like that would make a good button. "I'm not crazy, I'm just a little impaired."
  3. You can have me with fries, love, but I think you'd enjoy the presentation with onion rings better! What, no secret sauce????
  4. As a former member of the SCA for 10 years, in HOT Riverside, Ca. I can attest to the 'sweating rivers under the bodice' syndrome. I also tried, as much as possible, to stay with period materials and look. However, the proliferation of self-appointed costume police got to be really old. When my husband and I did a lot of the horse games, safety came before historical acuracy. I saw a former SCA Queen get dragged off her horse because her long skirt got tangled with the horses hind legs. As for pirate garb, I think the vary nature of pirates lends itself to exaggeration and fun. Yeah, be historical when you have to, but roll with it when you don't. I'm making a pirate coat to wear this winter as an every day coat. A major pattern company put out a halloween costume pattern with a Capt. Jack Sparrow look alike on the front. I'd been looking for a pattern of that style coat for a long time, so snagged it when on sale for only 99 cents. Can't wait to whip it up and wear it everywhere. I just wish there were more pirates and pirate events in my neck of the woods. I loved and miss costumes and taking on a persona, so wearing my pirate coat will have to serve. If someone happens to ask me if I'm a pirate, I'll just point to my truck, which has a window sticker of a skull and crossbones, and says "Pirate Girl.
  5. I think I'm in love! But, sir, there do seem to be a veritable armada of forks on the table. Maybe we could be sharin' this bountious meal? :)
  6. **Enter TK's for the first time—cautiously. Place smells wonderful. Is that cake? Then overhears comment, "Blow powdered sugar on newbies"*** Ummm, is that some sort of initiation right? Myself being a newbie, I was just curious. It's been a long weekend. Would it be possible to get a nice glass of Merlot and a shrimp cocktail for starters?
  7. Yeah, Mos Eisley is the best. Close runner up—Jabba's palace!
  8. Teaser and the Firecat by Cat Stevens—when he was Cat Stevens. Also, but not at the same time, Fortune My Foe by Les Witches
  9. Oooo, jealous I am. Earlier in the year I was aboard the Lady Washington for a day of hoisting sale and firing broadsides at the Lynx, not to mention the Mill Casino—a fine rattlin' of glass windows that was! The ships got so close that, while taking pictures I felt the blast of hot air on my checks when the Lynx fired back. Loved it! They were in Coos Bay, OR. Had a great time, and thanked the crew of the Lady next day with a big cake. Killick was her Captain then, and a fine gent.
  10. As so many of you, I was also a member of the SCA (ten + years), under the name Rathyen de Burres of Acton—being a direct decendant of Sir Richard de Burres Knight Templar. I am told the ruins of Acton Hall still exist in England, mainly a foundation and a lot of grass. For my pirate name, I wanted "something completely different." Went to the web site that gives you pirate names but didn't like any of them. In my writers group we all picked pirate names for Talk Like a Pirate Day, and mine was Fireship Fanny Todd, as I have red hair. But I though that name too long for this pub(besides, I know there is another, less flattering, meaning to the term "Fireship.") , so I came up with False Ransom, and the story that goes with it—held for ransom, ransom paid, but in lead coin instead of gold (full story under my introduction New Member). BTW Loved Mos Eisley - my favorite SW's town!
  11. This was in the dark ages, back in the 80's. No store then. Camped with a group from Dreiburgen, about 6-10 of us, depending. Personally, I liked Potrero, as it had a decent bathroom and shower, and there are trees, so you could camp in the shade. More than can be said for Estrella—if they still war there.
  12. Ahh, Potrero, I remember it well. Hot, dusty, no wine for twenty miles if you should run out, and a long drive home back to Dreiburgen (when I lived there). But, the nightly revels were fun.
