  1. A good story, with a well defined plot and character construction that makes sense. Characters who are motivated by human need as opposed to filling two hours with flippant derring-do. In other words, a film about PEOPLE who happen to be pirates. Good cinematography, particularly in fight scenes. I assume any movie about pirates will have a fight scene or two. When I see fights on the screen, I want to be able to see the technique, and the recent "MTV" style of tight shots and quick cuts every two seconds make it difficult to follow the fight (or show lack of good choreography.) Oh yeah... good fight choreography. Actors who fight in a style that is in line with their character... not EVERYONE has to be an expert swordsperson. Good acting. Actors who take the role seriously, and don't mail it in because "were just pirates, so we can follow the stereotype." Hire yourself a GOOD art director, I've seen a lot of movies lately where the art direction is just sad or sloppy. Stuntmen. Enough with the CGI already. Oh, and the last thing a GREAT pirate movie needs is me. Have you cast it yet?
  2. It's probably a syntax thing... latin has different words depending of if you're addressing an individual, group...etc etc and different words for past, future and present tense. I see the logic in the translation: be unwilling = do not uproar = disturb round = circles I have found this site: http://www.24hourtranslations.co.uk/cgi-bin/latdict.pl is great for translating english into latin, but not so great the other way around. None of the words "Noli Turbare Circulos Meos" came up with results. The other way around, "do not disturb my circles" can be interpreted various ways: "haud turbo meus orbis" This would be something a mathmetician might say... "do not mess with my nice geometrical circle." Another translation would be: "inexpugnabilis commoveo mei" This is something a serving girl would say to a drunken pirate who got a little on the "grabby" side. Or, it could be: "nemo abrumpo meus vexillum" meaning "nobody seperate my group" In an italian to english translator, "noli turbare" translates as "hires to upset"
  3. You do know I was just teasing about the "bashing," right Foxe? And you're right... after checking I noticed that is was upon the subject of burried treasure that Cordingly only comes up with two accounts. Ever been hazed at a club initiation?
  4. Argh! Foxe, there ya go again bashing Cordingly!! K... my research is lost in a pile of crud... but I believe that Cordingly mentions that he knows of two instances, but only describes one of them (as you mentioned earlier) Now watch me be wrong on that because I posted before checkin' me facts. So then the question would follow... since there are no real known examples of men "walking the plank" in the GAoP, where does the term derive from? It couldn't possibly be as simple as "hey, let's stick a plank over the water and make him walk off it..." could it? Would it have something to do with the gang-plank?
  5. I've had a goatee for the majority of the last ten years or so. I also shave it off every year or so to remind meself what I look like. Unfortunately, right now I'm in a stage show and HAD to shave it off... kept me mustachio however. It's definately been a decade since I had to shave every morning with a razor... gots me a bit of razor burn I does. Ouch.
  6. That HAD to be a blast... I'd love to hear some traditional tunes performed by a pirate troupe with orchestral back-up. What a great concept! Congrats!
  7. Well, I think it's a little off to post a link to a site containing obscene material. Now don't get me wrong Biker... I clicked on the link having a pretty good idea of what I was getting myself into, and personally I'm not offended... I found it sick and gross and stomach turning, but who didn't? All I'm saying is that you don't know who's going to click on that link. I'm not surprised somebody WAS offended. Sometimes people look at or listen to things they know they will be offended by -- just to have a right to complain. (That's why I used to watch Howard Stern ) Heck, I had to delete my little fig leaf avitar because it was found questionable by a mod, and thats a BIBLICAL reference. (Oh okay... a slightly perverted one) Point is, regardless of which thread it was placed on, the subject matter was perhaps a little... misplaced. Just me two shillin's PEACE!!
  8. Alice rocks!! "I wanna love ya but I'd better not touch I wanna hold ya but my senses tell me to stop I wanna kiss ya but I want it too much I wanna taste ya but your lips a venemos poison!" That song was like an anthem to me for at least two years while getting over a nasty break-up. Thanks for opening an old wound.
  9. Besides this board I frequent a couple forums that are populated by rennies in the midwest, a couple for my favorite bands (Great Big Sea, Gaelic Storm) a couple special interest (Trek fan fiction, tropical fish keeping) and the one I moderate for our performance group. I also keep track of one "professional purpose" board that caters to tech theatre geeks.
  10. Most of my dreams are surrealistic... (okay... I suppose that's true for a lot of people) but for the most part pretty much fluff... I can tell what's usually stressing me out or a major priority based on what I can remember of my dreams. Lots and lots of theatre related dreams lately, due to being deep in rehearsals for a show. On occasion I have scarry dreams, but not really what you would call nightmares... more like "acton-adventure-suspense" type stuff. Once in a while I will dream that I'm in a house that is surrounded by these "things" that have no defined shape and a decidedly malicious intent... and if they get in the house everyone will wind up dead. Thankfully those are few and far between. Just last night I dreamt of feeding a bear. When I woke up this morning my only thought was "sometimes you eat the bear, sometimes the bear eats you." Just so happens today was the first day of spring classes. Hrrrrm....
  11. Although it has nothing to do with POTC, my wife got me the "Smuggler's Fort" set for X-mas... and I've just been having a blast. I've combined all of the little figures from the other sets I already have into this huge fracas... and I change their positions a little every couple of days or so. I'm almost to the point where I'm ready to take still shots and put together a story line. Ohkay... I'm a geek. I know.
  12. Hrm... wonder if they like Pina Coladas or getting caught in the rain?
  13. LOL... yah, except Clark would blow up the whole block. Btw... Dread Mach Brannigan... VERY cool avitar y'got there mate!!
  14. 'Cause I figured if Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom could get all those gilrs to swoon so easily then a guy like me could have a REAL heyday.
  15. Quite possible... hard to know if somethings been posted before here sometimes. Emailed the link to a friend of mine, he said he'd gotten it from several different people (he's a lighting designer) and it's on at least 4 different servers.
  16. I didn't know about the study, but I'm not surprised at all. I think we've all encountered situations where mis-interpretation of forum messages, emails et. al. has led to catastrophic results. I know I've been guilty of putting my own inflection on other folk's statements, taking it wrong and getting all hissy about it, sometimes even with close IRL buddies. No worries here mate, and again, sorry for any unintentional offense on me own part.
  17. None taken... I was attempting to be funny with the "shaving / stabbing" remark, but once again my humor translates poorly on the web. Sorry 'bout that.
  18. Um... yah. I guess if this was posted in an inappropriate place, I apologize and hope the moderators will move it to the appropriate category. I was only attempting to spread a little Christmas cheer. Next time I start a thread I'll make sure it's along more acceptable lines... like genital shaving or who can stab the most people in thirty seconds.
  19. http://www.mypartypost.com/watchvideo/1033...ts_Display_Ever You gotta see it to believe it. Absolutely incredible light display on this guys house!!
  20. As an avid collector of pirate Megabloks, I can only hope and pray that this is true!
  21. Not a purebred Mainecoon, but at least 90% He's 20lbs now. But I wouldn't take him on a boat... he's a great mouser but he's clumsy as all get-out. He'd be overboard in a matter of hours. As for the question of parrot vs. monkey... I'd take the monkey. I worked in a pet store for a number of years and couldn't stand the squawking of the birds... especially the Maccaws. We had one Royal Blue who NEVER shut up... always screaming at the customers.
  22. In various circles I'm known as "Inky" or "That Guy"
  23. Anyone else own the "Pirates and Ninjas do not get along" t-shirt? It's one of my favorite non-garb clothing items.
