you should try the shellac again, sounds like Miranda had good luck with it
I can bring my bottle to 1721! I barely even dipped into it for my hat so I've plenty to go around and no opportunities for the foreseeable future to use it before it goes bad
Thanks for the offer, but I'm good for the moment - though I'd like to pick Pete's your brains about it while we're at the event.
In the early 2000s I gave the shellac thing a try and failed miserably. I tried making my own hat blanks too - that failed too, but ended made great cat cup beds. -

Old Navy tag in the liner 3.99 at Goodwill
In my earlier years of this hobby, I loved finding old misshapen wool hats from thrift stores or even new wool hats from walmart and target and turning them into pirate hats. I never got the stiffening part down very well and had to rely on whatever a given hat came with. The current batch of hats I'm working on are thicker - more substantial and of course expensive.
Anyway, good finds - great job!

I've been using Olive oil as a substitute for Neatsfoot oil. The added benefit is if you leave it in the sun, it darkens and ages to a beautiful dark brown without stain. Stain goes on very uneven. So I started pretreating the leather with water or oil (depending on the dye base) and the dye absorbs more evenly. But even then its a PITA. Since I was treating with oil anyway I experimented with some belts and discovered how nice the leather ages with just oil.
The flip side is it does have a slight smell of olive oil, at least initially, and you dont want to leave olive oiled leather lying around where rodents can get to it or they will chew it. (i.e. in the barn with horses)
Very cool! I'm going to have to give it a try on my next leather project.

Here are the knife roll and utility bag after smearing them with olive oil...
Wow, they came out great.
Where did you get the idea to use olive oil?

Thanks mate!
Considering by the golden age, people/nation states were routinely circumnavigation the globe - I would think some level of education/critical thinking was being employed.
I don't think this link answers your question, it's more about how peoples viewed/interpenetrated eclipses in the 1700s.

I wish Ed @Fox would join us - that is a great question.

But, can you bounce a quarter off that private!?!
No.
Could have fooled me. Sure looks like you could.
I'm using a discarded mattress foam topper, it fits pretty snug inside the bed bag, but it's not all that taught.
But you're more than welcome to try bouncing a coin on it.

Consider the job well done.
You are now relinquished from servitude.
What are you going to do with the rest of your life? LOL
...and thank you again for sewing that for us.

the shirt is also actually more Stynky's contribution....I traded him my labor making it for some other fabric
I'll take credit for finding the material at the Thrift Shop, but the main credit goes to you for your hard work sewing. From what you've shown so far, the shirt looks amazing!

That looks cushy!
Thanks, it's pretty comfy.
In that picture, it's rolled up with a couple wool blankets. I cut up an old leather belt to make the straps, not sure where I got the buckles from. Just using some hemp rope through the middle as a sling.

After the rains at Fort Gains kinda ruined my bed, I've decided to reconstruct my mattress into an actual/appropriate bed roll that can more be easily carried. I also cleaned out/replace the buckwheat hulls in my pillow.

I bet all the bowls fit inside that!
Pretty much. If I remember the size correctly, it could probably stow a tent as well.

we will need whatever serving bowls we have in our kitchen supplies. Working with the ranger for a iron pot to piss... er... cook in
I'll be sure to bring wooden bowls that Tudor Smith brought to the Alabama events, plus any eating utensils.
I'll have to double check, but I think I've got permission bring and use this large old copper cook pot, minus wooden shoe and dog toys.

Holly smokes, that kitchen looks amazing!
