*breathlessly* You know, like, it isn't good to dis the Universal, ya know, cause, like, WOW, the planets are aligned right now, totally, ya know? And when they, like, ARE, whoa, dude - ESP-CITY! ...totally... No, too granola. I read a book by Carol Adrienne that was supposed to have a lot of information about intuition. I finished it because I found a few interesting ideas, but it was not at all lucid and contained too much new age stuff, so I vowed never to read another book by her. I also picked up a tape series by Caroline Myss on the subject. I thought it was flaky with no real supporting information I could use. (I did sell it on eBay for about what I paid for it, though. So there's that.) I was hesitant to pick up the book I mentioned until I read a few pages. So far it's pretty good.

(Note: I merged Will Theobald's post with the existing MySpace post to keep things neat and tidy on the board.)

In my mind, what we think of as ESP is basically a function of intuition. (I'm not referring to the media-hyped ESP where people accurately predict every detail of the future - that's mostly fictional as far as I can tell.) I think everyone has intuitive skills, but like any skill it works best when developed through practice. I am currently reading a book on intuition that has so far given me several very good exercises. It's called You Already Know What to Do : 10 Invitations to the Intuitive Life by Sharon Franquemont. Another plus is that it avoids a lot of those breathless, scatterbrained, new age overtones that many books on the subject seem to have.

I thought that, too. Perhaps that tells us something about Pyrates... ...but I think it more likely that we haven't collected enough data points yet to say for certain. Or it might tell us something about the types of people who participate regularly in forums. Forum communication is somewhat indirect and it may not be what Sensors prefer. It might also be something to do with this particular test. Or possibly people's expectations. One big problem I've found when I administer MBTI-style tests in training sessions is that many people tend to fill in answers that reflect what they'd like to be rather than what they actually are. I had a group that was came out to be about 50% NFs - and I was pretty sure from watching the group in other exercises that many of them were most likely not NFs.

That's an awful lot of iNtuitives, considering they are only 1/4 of the population.

Oh, yeah! I remember watching that when it came out. It was pretty derivative, but I remember liking the characters. Didn't he have a dog with an eyepatch or something like that?

Shouldn't this be in the Raids forum? I'm going to move it there and leave a link in here so folks can still find it through this forum for awhile.

Someone sent me a link to this quiz via email and I thought it was pretty entertaining, so... http://www.theadvocates.org/quiz-score/quiz.php I was shocked (shocked!) to discover that I'm a libertarian. The little red dot on the map was at 100,100. "LIBERTARIANS support maximum liberty in both personal and economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence. Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties.

I was at my sister's place over Easter and her son has some of the toy lightsabers - I would image they run about $20-$40. They have the lights, sound-effects when struck and pretty decent balance. One of the toys even has coloured lightsaber "crystals" that you put into the handle (for all you SW fiction fans). They're probably not quite as nicely balanced as the ones you were playing with, but I'm sure they won't hurt your pocketbook as much either. Check T-backwards R-U.

She looks like about a half-dozen other starlets, young singers and whatnot. What do they do, cast them from molds?

You guys sure give a lot of credence to the government's ability to do things. The most I can say for government involvement in private enterprise is...well, I can't think of a thing! The government has the unerring ability to make things more complex and, thus, make them more expensive. I'm for privatizing anything that can be, allowing the free market to operate freely and paring down the governmental budget ( Excuse me while I dry my eyes) so I can keep more of my tax bite. That aside... Everything we do is a choice. If you have a car, that's a choice. If it gets 20 miles to the gallon, that's a choice. If you live far from work/family/the city center where all the stores are, that's a choice. As for the complaining that the government or corporate America doesn't supply your area with public transportation... First, you have chosen to live in such a place and you can change that decision: from my experience, Chicago, Atlanta and DC have decent public transport systems. Second, you may already have some sort of public transport available but you choose not to use it. Almost every community I've seen has some sort of transport system, but most people choose to have cars rather than support it (so it can make a profit and continue to expand and improve). Maybe your area doesn't have a transport system. If so, see option 1. You are where you are and what you are because of the choices you have made. If you don't like where and what you are, you are free to make new choices. Now, as for big oil and all this eyewash about collusion, let me share parts of an interesting article (I know it's long, but be brave and read the whole thing). If you want to go after someone who's really wasting your money, go after the government. Take a good look at how much you gave to them this year when you do (or choose to have done for you) your income taxes. There's some money I could use...

Get 'Em Goin' by Euge Groove. I'm going to wear my iPod out listening to the song at this rate.

Not only that, when they do email you something about your account, they also put it in the "My Messages" section of your account. All you have to do is log in, go to the My Ebay tab - My Messages is right at the top. Before I did anything with the email this morning, I checked there and noted that 1) I had not, in fact, bought something called "Ancient Rome Colosseum Christian Literature Homeschool" (whatever that is - it sounds slightly nonsensical to me) and 2) There was no warning message in my messages. So I knew I had a phisher, even if it was pretty clever. I clicked on the hotlink anyway and checked out the URL. It wasn't ebay.com. If the page url doesn't match, that's a dead giveaway. (One of the ones I saw was www.ebay2.something or other.com. That was almost clever, but not quite.)

Um. Did you mean me, Mission? I got your PM, and I'll help as best I can, but in the name of accuracy I must say that my novel is still unpublished, and unlikely to be published in the near future. What? Last I heard it was almost published! You were rather excited about the whole thing. Sorry to hear it wasn't. I was talking about you up there, but I have another friend who does inspirational public speaking who self-published. She found some on-line publishing deal where you enter the text into a preformatted page and insert your own jpeg cover art. She publishes a few books at a time - 20 or so - for something like $8 -$10 each (softcover). I own one and it seemed pretty decent, standard quality to me for a softcover book.

Ok, it's a Bond movie. Can I give you a bigger hint? (It's the WORST Bond movie. There.)

I got one awhile back that said something like, "You are eligible to become a Power Seller." or something like that. All you had to do was click on the button to sign up. That was another one that I thought was pretty clever. Someone from eBay even emailed me back about finding it (besides the normal "Thanks for reporting..." and "Your recent report proved to be a phishing email. We hope to God you didn't reply to it..."). I don't even give the "Your account is in danger of being deactivated..." or "We have noticed suspicious activity..." emails a second glance. It is but the click of a button and a few keyclicks to send it off to spoof@eBay.com or spoof@Paypal.com. I wonder how they get your email addy? eBay is getting pretty good at closing the gate and protecting the user IDs. They may have mine because my email used to be the same as my ID before eBay made me change it.

I'm not one to compliment people unless they really put forth a superior effort, but I must admit this one was pretty clever. I received this email this morning: And then there were a bunch of buttons to respond to the request or take action on it. All lead to a non-eBay website where the first thing you have to do (naturally) is log in. Your first inclination is outrage and to cry out for justice by responding to the request. Pretty clever. All the same, I reported it to spoof@ebay.com. Bloody pirates.

You go first... That reminds me of that scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark where they're peering down into the Well of Souls and Indy says, "Snakes...why'd it have to be snakes?" And Sallah replies, "Asps! Very dangerous. You go first." Besides, lighting didn't almost strike me...

It's only for the US?! I want to see the charts for the slot (Iron Bottom Sound) in the South Pacific Islands. Research or something. Hmm. Sort of interesting for local SCUBA sites, though...

I know someone who self-published and was very happy with the results. Of course, if you do that, you have to find a way to promote your book. She was a inspirational speaker and this method of publishing allowed her to order small quantities of books to sell at her speaking engagements. (If people like what you have to say, they often want to take something about you with them. Thus the instant books sales.) Truth be told, from what I've heard, as a beginning author you typically have to find a way to promote your book anyhow. The publishers usually don't. (I know someone around her who published a book. I'll see if I can get him to look in on this thread. He's one of the most thorough people I've met on the web and might have some good advice for you.)

Isn't creating back stories fun? It gives so much more depth to a character. And when Ed and Daniel get involved, it can quickly become a research project of epic proportions... Say, is that Daniel whom I remember from piratesinfo Daniel? (It sure sounds like it. )

Thanks, Dorian. You're a gentleman and a scholar. It is not Platoon. I provided a huge hint in my original post.

That wouldn't help him get her email address. Why don't you just do what lady snow suggests and automatically have your system move his emails in your trash or junk files - then ignore them by deleted the files without reading them. He sounds like a sort of troll and the one thing they can't stand is to be ignored.

I must confess, I find the storylines in Zim to be far too cynical to make it a favorite cartoon of mine. Gir is a different matter, however; he's the highlight of the show.
