  1. ah so that's why they changed the dates.  Thanks for the information.  I was wondering why they did it the same weekend as Maryland.  Still am trying to figure out when we will be there.  MIght be opening weekend not sure I have to get with my sister and gute on that one.  B)

the funny thing is that maryland doesn't have a "pirate" weekend this season... they're calling it "adventure" weekend. though it is still more pirate than anything else...

    From the MDRF website

September 23rd & 24th: Adventure Weekend: Seafaring, pirates and the age of exploration.

The Renaissance was a time of discovery. This weekend we explore beyond the shores of England. Learn about life at sea. Hear stories of the great adventures. Experience music and dance from foreign lands. Eat, drink and be merry with delicacies from the sea. And of course, arrrghh matey - there be pirates!

Pirate costume contest for adults (16 and over) and children (0-15). Prizes will be awarded for the best pirate costume - head to toe. Time and location of contest will be posted shortly.

  2. I voted for black, since it's my preferred color.

However, if I were to put something together, or buy, I might go for red or a dark red also.

Would a black frock coat and red short coat be inappropriate?

Black and reds work well on me.

  3. Here's one that I've been trying to learn so I can particpate better at the shanties around Maryland.

    Boozing

Now what are the joys of a single young man?

    Why, boozing, bloody well boozing

And what is he doing whenever he can?

    Why, boozing, bloody well boozing

You may think I’m wrong or you may think I’m right

I’m not going to argue, I know you can fight

But what do you think we are doing tonight?

    Why, boozing, bloody well boozing

Boozing, boozing, just you and I

Boozing, boozing, when we are dry

Some do it openly, some on the sly

And we all are bloody well boozing

Oh what are the joys of a poor married man?…

And what is he doing whenever he can?…

He comes home at night and he gives his wife all

He goes out a-shopping, makes many a call

But what brings him home, hanging on to the wall?…

And what do the moral majority run down?

And what are they banning in every town?

They stand on street corners, they rave and they shout

They shout about things they know nothing about

But what are they doing when the lights are turned out?

  4. thankfully I use firefox at home and now that I see folks have problems with IE... I'll not open the site with that program. So far, I haven't had any problems.

Hopefully, the folks maintaining the board will find the bug and kill it.

  5. I got the bugger of an email too... thankfully, when I opened it, I saw that it was just a link to and .exe file. I promptly deleted it.

this was the FROM statement :

"Pyracy Pub - the Pirate Forum" <bloodybuckets@pyracy.com>

  6. In the Maryland area there is a group called The Ships Company that does Shanty nights three times a month. Check out there site for info, anyway, they put together a nifty song book and usually offer a copy for $5. Which reminds me, I need to get me their newest one.

Not sure that helps any, but, maybe you could contact 'em and see if they could send ya a copy.

  7. I used to like going to PARF opening weekend and the second weekend, especially since it was a Pirate weekend. Now, I'll probably only just go the one weekend. That and PARF is getting to be expensive to go to.

  8. aye, it was a great time!

    QueenRogue, you looked fantastic!

I know I met several others, besides the usual folks I know, but I haven't a clue who else I met now. I got to go look through some of the pictures and see if I remember anyone and if anyone has photographic evidence that I was there :D:D

  9. barring any unforseen issues at the nasty four letter word starting with a W... I'll be there on saturday with parts of my crew and several others... I'll have the pin on one of my bags. Come say hi if you spot me...

  10. Well, it's past the time for this months Baltimore Shanty sing, but here's the schedule that is usually kept:

On the first Tuesday of the month from 8 to 10 p.m., at the Royal Mile Pub, 2407 Price St. in Wheaton, Maryland (near University & Rt. 97).

On the second Wednesday of the month from 8 to 10 p.m., at the Wharf Rat, 801 S. Anne Street, Baltimore, Maryland (Fells Point)

On the third Thursday of the month from 8 to 10 p.m., at The Drummer's Lot, Main Street in Annapolis, Maryland 21401

It's usually a fun time. The group that does the singing usually starts of the fun and they pass around a list of songs, which you can either pick a song from and sing, or request. It makes for interesting listening as folks sing slightly different versions of the songs and or start to sing and forget parts of it.

  11. I just picked up the game the other day. I thought it was going to be something like the Civilization games. It's not. I like it though. It's pretty fun. The game has lots of fun things, sword fights and ship battles and other things. The one thing I haven't gotten figured out yet is the dancing parts. It's not easy to follow the silly hand gestures that indicate which way to go. I love the animations of the ships exploding and some of the battles. So, far, one of the things I'm not happy with is the forced time off when you divide the plunder. they should give you the option whether or not you want to keep plundering or rest.

Over all though, I really like it. I can see many hours of my life virtual pirating! :P:P:P:P

  12. I like the movie for most of the reasons everyone else has already pointed out.

It's probably the first movie that I've seen that a woman is depicted as a pirate. I haven't seen to many of the older movies, so I'm not totally sure. Anyway, several of my lady friends have asked me what to where as a lady pirate. I point 'em to this movie. Mostly, I tell 'em to dress like a guy. lol.

I like to watch it for the sword fights and the whole ship battle.

Oh, and I want that sword the Dawg has/had.
