  1. I'll see your sugarcraft site and raise you one Layer cake shop. (Check out the tiki sugars!)
  2. I stopped at Michaels today and managed to find pearlescent dust in gold, bronze and silver. Apparently you dust it over the fondant or mix it with vanilla or vodka and paint it on. Time permitting, I'll give it a try this weekend.
  3. I've gotta find some of that metallic fondant paint. I'm not interested in making a tiered cake, but just one of those layers would be a blast to try my hand at crafting. Any suggestions on where I could get my hands on that paint? These cakes are pretty cool, too - check out the last one: More steampunk cakes
  4. Ooooh - now this is cool. A man converted a school bus into a Victorian summer cottage on wheels. School bus conversion
  5. Hey Patt - check this out: Steampunk scooter and this: Steampunk motorbike or this: another steampunk motorcycle
  6. Capt. Sophia said she'll have Pew's book done fairly soon (if it isn't already done...)
  7. Yep - at least the Victorian woman had normal-sized hips and such. That Ralph Lauren model just looks like a freak.
  8. Whups - I'm late! Hope it was a GREAT birthday. And here's to at least another 41 lashes!
  9. To open a can 'o worms... I've noticed that most of the put-downs seem to be about garb. Wanting to be accurately is nice, but reenactment encompasses so much more than just dressing properly. I'd venture to say that my kit is, at best, 80% accurate. (I wear wool and linen on the outside, but I've gotta have my cotton undies... ) And two of my guns are cap locks. One of the reasons I'm not at 100% is because I've been too busy with the rest of the piratical reenactment requirements - sailing, firing black powder implementia (and by firing I mean doing more than making loud noises with 'em) and honing my skills with a variety of edged weapons, both theatrical and actual combat (thirty years at this.) And quite a bit of Ransom's and my reenactment time is actually spent on a ship. Patt has spent time learning the actual skills as well, which, from my observation, differentiates him from a lot of other folks who frequent Twill, who seem to mostly argue about how to dress properly (another reason I spend very little time in Twill.) I'm speaking as an observer who tries to live in both the accurate/fantasy reenactment worlds.
  10. I particularly like that last one - well done!!
  11. Happy Birthday Kate! Hope you get some lovely plunder this year!
  12. I just got Sophia's book from Patrick. He did a spooky story this time!
  13. You know the lanterns that they used in the Master and Commander movie? The ones they repro'ed from the lanterns from the Victory that were loaned to them? I've looked everywhere and can't find a single one. Does anyone have any idea where I can get my hands on one or two of these? Mucho appreciado.
  14. Petee!! Happy birthday! (Did I mention that it was damn good to see you at Ojai?)
  15. Sophia's had her hands full but she says her book will be on its way in a week or two.
  16. Just finished Guns, Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond. Great book that explains why certain societies became the more prominent and powerful ones (e.g. why Europe "conquered" the New World and not the other way around.) It's extremely well written - highly recommended!
  17. No back up?? Next time I'm bringing axes so I'll do more than paddle your behind!
  18. Or we'll have Jacky Tar do his proctologist impression again...
  19. Hey - I'd never worn one of those before. And I thought at first that was a fun house mirror, but nope - it was me and my "squishability" factor. Ojai was a blast, both literally and figuratively! It was great to see Iron Bess on Saturday; we spent the afternoon playing our bodhrans and singing chanteys along with Jack and some of the other Tales members. And we had a great time hanging out with Jacky Tar and going shopping for that tit mouse. I'm still laughing! (Or would be if I could talk - still have no voice...) And yeah - next kidnapping, I'll bring a couple of boarding axes. Although spanking Kenneth was just TOO much fun.
