  1. This from she who is on the west coast. Thanks Jill.My work schedule (until this week) was Sunday - Thursday so Friday is my normal shopping day ...OMG, the morons in the grocery stores! I needed Dog food and a few other things. You would have thought it was the end "snomageddon" to quote someone that I don't know. I could empathize with those looking for ice melter, I was one of them. I could understand the people stocking up on junk food and movies. What I don't comprehend is the people who are out there buying milk, eggs & bread. What are they planning, french toast for day? I don't get the reasoning behind stocking the cabinets and refrigerator with enough to feed the household for a month. Okay, some seniors are wise doing this but if you aren't someone who's neighbors shovel your sidewalks for because you are old you only don't need enough for a month. I suppose that everyone who would normally be shopping today took off work and did their shopping yesterday. They were likely shopping for the superbowl parties that they will be canceling tomorrow ...not because of the bad roads but because if they have guests over they have to find some place to park said guests cars. Okay ...I'm done spouting off ...for now. Enjoy your snow day ...I am going out to make verl large snow Archangels. Wings, gown, a cutlass in one hand and blunderbuss in the other. Hey - the West Coast gets snow. Just ask Ransom or Patt (okay - maybe don't ask Patt unless you feel the need to read some colourful language...) Except for Southern California, which is in a sub-tropical desert (and 350 miles south of where I live) California's in a temperate zone. We don't often get snow at the lower elevations hereabouts, but we get lots of rain and wind. As in we wonder each year which town will be under water or what homes will slide down the hills or how many trees will be uprooted.
  2. Hey - socks that might actually fit me. I saw a couple of wool blends that I liked. Thanks QJ!
  3. Can anyone recommend the best maker of stockings for smaller feet? I wear a woman's size 7 (or 7-1/2, depending on the maker) and have had a heck of a time finding stockings that aren't huge on me or too bulky. As in by the end of the day parts of my feet are worn by having to fight with my socks for real estate in my shoes!
  4. Those of you in the Midwest should appreciate this: Snow Advice For The Frantic Mid-Atlantic Listen to the audio - this woman's delivery is hysterical.
  5. Pretty funny about the hats. I have several but none of them have names.
  6. Happy birthday!! Hope you're having a great day!
  7. Oi - we've got another rainstorm coming in. Means more snow for Patt - sorry!
  8. Happy birthday Jacky Tar! I hope we can have a belated birthday toast at Ojai this year!
  9. Wow - will have to try one of those!
  10. One of these years you'll have to join us! We also hold a yearly barbecue in July, on the shores of a lagoon. I'll post information about that when the time comes and if anyone happens to be in the area.
  11. The cold has passed through here (not cold by midwest standards, surely) but enough for snow at close to sea level and that's saying a lot. But now we're going through the wind and rain part of Winter. Flooding - oh, boy!
  12. Someone else would be able to tell you whether or not it's historically accurate but it looks great!
  13. Wish I could make it to this shindig - sounds like it's gonna be a BLAST!
  14. I learned that in real life you are a sailor, with some experience with black powder and blade weapons.I failed to fine anything to explain your skeptiaicism as you said I would so I must refer to this "pirate lord" that you mention. I searched for this and found no other references to "pirate lord". While in real life I served in the U. S. Marines as a Tank Commander with the call sign Warlord. Firing thousands of rounds from real life cannons. That I spent years deployed aboard real life naval ships, manning real life gun crews and real life boarding parties onto real life enemy vessels. However I thought this was a fantasy thread and as I just washed up with the last high tide I wanted to engage in some fantasy participation. I was expecting someone to challange me I was inviting the conversation. Living the GAoP lifestyle has been a fantasy of mine for more than 40 years and I thought I had found a place with like minded folks. I didn't expect to be perjudged for some "debacle" that I knew nothing about. My note about the "pirate lord" was aimed at Sterling, when he asked me about my reply. The situation I alluded to was about someone who, having been a member of the Pub just a few days, started calling himself the "Pirate Lord" and the situation degenerated from there and as a result he no longer posts here. The main issue was with someone joining and within a week calling him or herself a chief or leader of something, whether fantasy or otherwise; I didn't want the same thing to happen to you that happened to that Pirate Lord guy. So I'd recommend hanging out and getting the feel of this place. We really are for the most part okay folks, but it does take a bit of time to get the lay of the land, so to speak.
  15. He only listed three alternatives. There are more... And my stance is about anyone nominating themselves chief of anything off the bat after just showing up. (You recall the debacle with the "pirate lord"?... Just trying to head off one of THOSE situations...)
  16. Nice verse, but yep - still skeptical. Read some of my previous posts about how I spend my spare time in real life and you'll see why...
  17. Hope you've been having a great birthday - here's to many more!
  18. Hope you're having a great birthday! (You're very mature for being just two, though... )
  19. Chief Nautical Acquisition Specialist?...
  20. True - she is part of a gun crew on a ship.
  21. Heh - my first thought was a rendezvous in a HOTEL?? When I think "rendezvous" I think of the blackpowder rendezvous reenactment events that I do. Setting up a pre-1840's camp, shooting targets in the woods and throwing tomahawks and knives.
