  1. As usual, gas is more expensive in the SF Bay Area - we're in the red zone as well. Mostly close to $3 and over $3 in some stations.
  2. Skinny belts can be turned into garters, wider belts can be turned into cannon accoutrement (for carbide cannons, they make good trunion covers. And we wrap them around cannon wheels for extra protection.) One thrift store had a box of those designer upholstery fabric samples. I picked up a few and put them to good use. And I got all of these for $25 at the same place:
  3. I'm recording a flash tutorial for a customized version of our software - or shall I say, attempting to. The program (Adobe Captivate) is crashing every five minutes. Thought I'd finish this project today but I was being REALLLLLY optimistic. The problem is mostly with my computer - I've been waiting for an upgrade for a year now; at this point it looks as if it will take an act of Congress to get it. Not only that, but folks who know that I'm attempting to record audio are making too much noise. And they are perturbed about why I am so stressed out today...
  4. You were definitely misinformed. California has all sorts of piratical and other historical events - with black powder implementia and no problems from the local government.
  5. Has anyone seen the movie "Kenny"? Funniest. Movie. EVER. (Seriously.)
  6. Christine's is Zorro the Gay Blade, I believe... And Mission's is Grosse Point Blank (one of my favourites! "You can't go home again - but you can shop there.")
  7. I actually have dual citizenship in real life - Canadian/American. But my Canadian and American citizenship cards and papers are separate; I don't think a document exists that combines the two, since they are issued by two different governments (and I can't imagine two governments ever being able to coordinate something like that.) So realistically, I'd need two cards. But I imagined that historically, they might have used an actual document rather than a small card. My image is someone asking me for my papers and me reaching into my coat pocket, unwrapping and unfolding a well-worn packet of citizenship papers (something about 6 x 8 or so.)
  8. (Hadn't decided whether I want to go as a Californian or a Canadian, since I qualify as either one...) So would ya happen to have a Republic of California document I can use? I've got fancy paper and a quill pen.
  9. Yeah, but carving one out of wood - my hat's off to ya. Good work!
  10. Yikes - better round up a Cascadia ID card. Although I don't think it will be a card, per se, more like a document.
  11. Roofing adhesive works pretty well also. Here's a PVC theatrical charge cannon that Jack hasn't gotten around to converting to carbide: (Yes, it's on a land carriage - he made it for a Scottish reenactment group.)
  12. It got up to over 90 degrees over the weekend, but now it's mostly sunny and hovering around the low to mid 70's, which is just how I like it!
  13. There would have been nine puns here, but she lactate...
  14. Aye - as I mentioned earlier, it's about time you dragged your sorry carcass back here. And getting into the "grown-up stuff", eh? You call yourself a pirate?? Kidding... glad to see you back, lad!
  15. This is one reason why we buy it by the case... Track of the Wolf was offering it for a limited time at the $12 price if you bought a case of 25. The price has since gone up to just over $14. Get a bunch of folks together on a case and it can be a pretty good deal. And here's a listing of Goex distributors.
  16. From what I've observed, Goex is used most commonly. And each container IS one pound. We've bought it by the case at $12/pound (but we have cannons...) and I've seen it for sale at rendezvous for $17-$19 per container, on the average.
  17. I sent Matusalem's book off to Sophia at the end of last month. I just have Pew's.
  18. If it has a red cover and a red hand embroidered on the inside - it's mine.
  19. What??? They didn't go with an image of her relieving herself at the Mickey statue?... Good on ya, Phoebe!
  20. PETEE!! About time you dragged your sorry carcass back here! How've you been??
  21. A lot of what we have said is harsh but we really would not want to hear that you were sent to the hospital because someone split you open during a drunken swordfight. Our response is commensurate with how much we care and how serious we know this is.
  22. I debated but really feel the need to chime in here. As someone who has fought with swords and other edged weapons for thirty years and who has had to deal with drunken guys swinging swords I can tell you that this sort of action really does reflect badly on reenactors as a whole. (As do people who are unsafe with blackpowder implementia, but I'm not going to go there for now...) When you put on garb, you're in the public eye and neither you nor the rest of us can afford this kind of stupidity. Yes, the overwhelming reaction to your story wasn't what you hoped for, but it was absolutely the right response. Frankly, if you really want to fight with swords, you should get some actual training - and don't touch a sword again unless you are completely sober.
