  1. I've been drawing since I was six years old. Minored in art back in the day before computer graphics (WAY before computer graphics.) I had a small business during the 80's where I did clothing design, book illustrations, etc. (I did a whole series of t-shirts for Neil Young, his wife, manager, band mates, roadies, etc.) Also designed the graphics for an airplane and attendant team shirts for one of the Reno Air Shows. I admit I've gotten rusty - haven't had a lot of time to draw lately.
  2. I tend to differentiate geek and nerd thusly: a geek is someone who is into something esoteric, that the "mainstream" people aren't into (or into so much.) A nerd is someone like that, but who is also socially inept. I was a professional "computer geek" for nineteen years. That got to be considered "cool" during the 90's, when everyone wanted to work in the computer industry because that was where the perceived the money was. The market was flooded with all these hopefuls and then the Dot.com became the Dot.bomb and these hopefuls then ran over to real estate and now the market is flooded with an over-abundance of beginner realtors. I haven't seen whether the "realtor geeks" have gotten the same cache that the "computer geeks" got.
  3. I started a tradition in my family a few years back - a week before Christmas we check out the local, more spectacular displays. Oftentimes there will be articles about them in the local paper. Then we head north to San Francisco to check out some areas where we know do some pretty wacky displays. One of the funniest is a front yard with a mixed blend of those plastic figurines with the lights in them. Meaning, in one group you'll see the three wise men, Mickey Mouse in a Santa suit, Victorian carolers and Winnie the Pooh in a Santa hat. The whole front yard is like that. And in the middle of this group is the nativity scene. They touched up the eyes on the angel and it now looks downright demonic (I don't think they did this intentionally - the eyes faded and they were just trying to paint them back on and didn't do a very good job.)
  4. St. Francis Bay (or the Bay of St. Francis) is what we call the San Francisco Bay up hereaways.
  5. This one is going to sound weird, but one of the most elegant albums I can recall is Waylon Jennings' Black on Black album. The cover is a matte black and has his stylized "W" bird in silver and the words "Black on Black" in a shinier black. Very understated for him.
  6. This is why I live in the SF Bay Area. Rain? Yes. Snow? No. A friend of mine lives up in Delta Junction, Alaska. Last year she said it got to 90 below. Now THAT'S cold!
  7. Mad Jack, I LOVE Creme BruleƩ - you wouldn't happen to have a recipe that you would be willing to share, would you?
  8. No turkey for me. Had the folks over for Thanksgiving brunch and then Jack and I took it easy the rest of the day. We're about to head out for a road trip to get away for the rest of the weekend.
  9. Which reminds me - I need to hunt up my special eggnog recipe...
  10. Happy Thanksgiving - I hope the day has been full of fellowship and good cheer.
