Well in that last picture that one gent definitely appears to be wearing blue slops Joshua. A lot of the clothing seems on par with what the rest of the seafaring community was wearing all over the world at the time.

That's a tough one there Rumba...I probably shouldn't be wrappin' me brain 'round stuff like this so early in th' day, but ya only live once...

Now many events that folks attend 'ere on the pub are Ren Faires, Reinactments, ect...where the "normal public" (normies) are welcome t' fraternize wit e'eryone present. Granted there are a few that be just fer the folks involved. Though since the 21st century is blatant and reminders of "real life" are always there many try to seperate themselves as much as possible...

I mean at certain events people only know me as Kalum and that's the way it should be...most of the people I know don't even know my birth name. In a way I am my character so much because my character is me...just 100% unadulterated and unabridged. Usually when someone is so into character that they'll introduce themselves to me (even though they know me) I'll just go along with it. Since at most events reinactors or playtrons are there to entertain, teach, ect...granted a few go over the line and really think they have a galleon in the backyard. I usually let that last group be and just smile and nod.

However, it's that last group there that sometimes forgets that we're in the 21st century. Which causes a few problems. Some seek the shelter of living in a fantasy to avoid the stress of the world or from personal problems. With that they're at the events or visit sites like this for many of the same reasons we all do. To get away. If someone gets mad or infuriated o'er the fact they 'ave a real life then I would say the person does have a few problems. If they're part of the "show" or what have you, I won't talk to them about 21st century things if the public is too close. Ruins the effect and atmosphere they're projecting. That can also cause anger...since the illusion is shattered. If they refuse to admit they came to the event in a car whilst talkin' in private...then well...I hear they have really good drugs to help those problems these days.

Well my brain is listin' a bit t' port right now...so I'll have t' pick this up a bit later...the broadside of "deep thought" was a wee too much fer it t' take...

for the back- take 2 Ibuprophin then wait 30 min and take 2 Tylenol. Its supposed to be the best thing for anything.

After my last event I lazily left my cocked hat in the car for about a week, and was so tempted to pop it on and waltz into the grocery store with it.

Aww ya should've mate! I try t' wear mine pretty much everywhere. I used t' wear one when I worked for Dominos. The reactions were great...had little kids callin' me the "Pizza Pirate"

Just the wind blowing past the window and the occasional cat sprinting by as they play chase...

I's bein' a bit sore...lower back is killin' me. Hurts t' sit down and getting back up is a bit interestin' as well. Then again layin' 4 pallets of sod in just over 5 hours will do that t' ya I guess.

Other than that fightin' t' not catch Shaelyn's cold...or whatever it is. A wee bit tired as well...waking up takes so much effort at times

This topic has come up on a few other boards I post on in the past. While they were regarding a broader range of personas I think my explaination still fits here....

When I'm at a Ren Faire, reinactment or Pennsic War I am truely me. My persona isn't a persona...it's who I am. "Reality", the real world, probably couldn't handle that so I put on a face for the masses that hides my true self a bit. As HarborMaster said...the 21st century just wouldn't allow for it.

It all boils down to the fact that I have to mute my personality in public, but in private...here on the board or at an event it's 100% unadulterated me. Granted even here I put the brakes on a bit. Because as Ciaran said...I'd probably end up banned as well!

I've been thinking about yer delima and me thoughts went to the lovely paresol of Ms. RhumbaRue. Have ye thought of creatin yer own "parroty" skeleton from squab or rock cornish game hen bones? I don't think the public would scutinize enough to know the difference.

Interesting point...I mean how many people have actually seen a parrot skeleton before? Probably not many...I know I haven't. Well some pictures, but they're built much like other birds. Might be something to consider as a viable option fer ya Mission.

I guess the only thing would be that you would know it wasn't an actual one, but if you can overlook that Black Hearted Pearl just might be onto something there. :)

Myself, Shaelyn, Mystiki and Shadow will be there from my crew and I know that Duncan, Gwenance and possibly a few others from the Juryrig will be there that weekend.

Shaping up to be a full blown invasion :)
