Personally, I like the analogy in Harbormaster's quote. We're mostly just children dressing up and playing pirate. I can remember many summer days spent sword fighting with sticks from my Grandmother's wood pile. The same stick would become a Winchester rifle or an M1 Garand depending on our whims. For some of us playing pirate means perfectly accurate props and clothing, for others a stick may stand in for a sword. It's the game that counts, not the toys.
I do admit, however, that I find the bad accents a little annoying, but if that's what helps people "feel like a pirate" then I say have fun and enjoy it.

That's very cool.

There is another side to this also. Problems can happen from either side of the transaction. I have had people tell me that they were interested in a product and then back out when I notified them that it was finished. I now require a deposit, but I try not to accept more than 50% up front on an order. This will help cover the materials if I need to purchase anything for an order and also it is enough to make sure the customer is serious.

What a great idea! Will you be building your own grinding wheel?

I just acquired these treasures for my pirate bar. The rum bottle was made by Eddie Barlow (Cracker Bob) and the pipe was handmade by Bill Huffman from Tranquility Pipes.

Your work is beautiful. It's inspiring.

Doesn't independent sort of imply primary? If you're reading a non-period book about period, it is either a dependent book or it is fiction. (But your point is taken. )
Actually, independent sources simply means that your sources are independent of each other. If you have one source that describes something and a second source that references the first one you still have only one source. The second source is "dependent" on the first. In most cases though, you would be correct in assuming that the only truly independent source is a primary one.

Here is a shot with my boys. Just finished the waist coat. Now I have to work on breeches...and someday new boots.

We're seriously considering coming up for this one...Still trying to decide which Faires to attend this year.

Renaissance Wax is another option for protection. It's used in museums for preservation and protection of artifacts. Kiwi shoe wax would be a lot less expensive though. There is also a product called a Rust Eraser it is sold in cutlery shops and it works well to clean heavy rust.

Very nice work. It looks real.

That's an incredible song. I can't wait to see the film.

I just finished On Stranger Tides and now I'm re-reading Tolkien's works. Starting with The Hobbit and going all the way through them all, including the recently published ones.

Those are beautiful. The nicest that I've seen.

I would be willing to create a coloring page for kids that they could use.

What about having a pirate art contest? You would need categories like professional and non professional to be fair. or have one just for kids... or... a coloring contest for kids.
A pirate themed art exhibit would also be interesting, without the competition. Just invite people to bring their pirate art and display it.

I enjoyed Cutthroat Island, despite some issues with the dialog and acting. However, the only thing I ask from a movie is that it entertain me...so I'm not the best judge.

There are more photos on my Facebook page:
I'm not sure if all of the images are OK to post here. There isn't anything offensive...just some "fine art" nudes.

Here is a non-pirate one...

I'll post some images in the Thieves Market, but for now there are a couple of pictures posted by Oderlesseye in The Workshop. I think the thread is titled I've Been Immortalized.

I enjoyed the movie overall, but left feeling vaguely dissatisfied. Mostly, I wish there was more story and character development. I'd love to have seen the battle between Blackbeard and Barbossa and it would have been nice if they spent a little time on explaining the zombies and the enchanted ship. Everything seemed to move too fast and left me questioning how they got from one place to another.
The mermaids were nearly perfect though.
