  3. No I have not and is a great idea thank you so much , my persona was some what kinda in that direction, gyspy excaping persecution meets pirate etc etc etc... but I think I can work with that better plus when my husband quits being JS he can be Sinbad LOL no serious he can be a grow up persian, turkish or greek pirate ...
  4. If you like paella you probably will like this version of it , is called "moqueca" (mo-kee-kaa) is a brasilian dish pretty similar easier to make with a little few ingredients, tradition says it was created by slaves during the colonial time (they would use scrapes of food from the "casa grande" (main house). 1 kg white firm white fish (like tilapia) in filets 200gr of shrimp clean and peeled juice of 1 lime 2 big onions (sliced) 2 garlic cloves 1 green bell pepper 1 yellow (sliced) 1 big tomato firm sliced 2 spoons of olive oil 1 small can of puree tomatoes 1 can of coconut milk parsely, chives, salt (sea), black pepper, hot peppers (chile) at taste I tbs of "azeite de dende" or palm tree oil (make a lot of diference) wash the fish and the shrimp dry it and them put with the lime juice, salt, pepper, and hot pepper(40 min at least) put the olive oil in a flat pot (with lid) and warm it , when hot put garlic, onions , bell peppers make sure you don't brake the peppers or onion (when onion gets transparent add tomate puree) , when it dry a bit add the coconut milk ans as soon it starts to boil add the fish, cover it and let cook for 5 -10 min (depend how tick the fish is) when fish looks almost done add shrimp and the "dende oil" mix very gently to not brake fish cover it up and finish cooking (10 min) add parsley and chives at end so it would not look bad to take it to next level you can make "pirao" get some juice from the "moqueca" (you can make more wet) add some boiled eggs and "farinha de mandioca" yucca flour raw and slow cooked together , correct the salt, black pepper and the heat (hot pepper) add more parsley until gets a little ticker than oatmeal.
  5. Thank you Mistress Dobyns, that was extremely helpull, as a beginner I have been confuse about the whole "stay/corset" thing haven't seen the underbust until I started going to renfaires , it never looked looked like someone before the 20th century would be wearing in public (even a woman of curious reputation) . I will try to get some of those books or patters you mention about the time frame , well probably it will be the GAP anyway the only thing that might hold me back is will be no bellydancing on that garb LOL don't know if I will be able to behave myself
  6. Here is my version of the story ....as a new comer (me and my husb) have been to quite few events (TRF mostly and the one in Maryland VA )and you pretty much walk around get to say hi to a few ppl at the pubs or stores and that about it, then everybody knows everybody and go do stuff or look at you like you are one of the rest of the general public waiting to take a picture with a pirate instead of building friendships... maybe a naive perspective but if don't go there "recomended" or knowing someone you don't get to play. We are not in re-enactment at least not yet, specially with 2 small kids don't have time and $ to dedicate to it, maybe in a few years but we like to learn the historic correct version of pyracy and to be some what more than halloween and ren pirates, as I said maybe naive .

  10. Eneida is the Portuguese corruption for Aenid The Aeneid (pronounced /əˈniːɪd/; in Latin Aeneis, pronounced [ajˈneːis]—the title is Greek in form: genitive case Aeneidos) is a Latin epic poem written by Virgil in the late 1st century BC (29–19 BC) that tells the legendary story of Aeneas, a Trojan who traveled to Italy, where he became the ancestor of the Romans. It is composed of roughly 10,000 lines in dactylic hexameter. The first six of the poem's twelve books tell the story of Aeneas' wanderings from Troy to Italy, and the poem's second half tells of the Trojans' ultimately victorious war upon the Latins, under whose name Aeneas and his Trojan followers are destined to be subsumed. The hero Aeneas was already known to Greco-Roman legend and myth, having been a character in the Iliad; Virgil took the disconnected tales of Aeneas' wanderings, his vague association with the foundation of Rome and a personage of no fixed characteristics other than a scrupulous piety, and fashioned this into a compelling founding myth or nationalist epic that at once tied Rome to the legends of Troy, glorified traditional Roman virtues and legitimized the Julio-Claudian dynasty as descendants of the founders, heroes and gods of Rome and Troy.
  11. Zingara is italian for gypsy, and Carmella is my grandmother name . My grandparents ( mother and father side) imigrated from Italy to Brasil on the first War, (I was born and raise in Brasil ,I have been here in USA for 10 years now ) . There is a dispute in my mother side about the origin of her family, some said they came from France escaping persecution (from what was never said) , others have found traces of the family in other countries in Europe, there is not records enough to prove or disprove anything. so, maybe we are really gypsies. P.S. In defense of my poor husband (he being one of the 30 Jack Sparrows around ) would be consider a "legitimate " reason if your toddler thinks you are really him? maybe in a couple of years may husband will be able to move on LOL

  17. Ah finally the answer I was hoping to hear, since I'm new in the "proper way of things" that was going to be my question. So the "wench corset" seen in the renfaires usually is not the the proper one right? stopping at the underbust? so I take the whole dress is wrong, with the transparent shirt and 2 skirts, at least for the GAP?
  18. amazing ! is he your twin brother?
