1. Ha Nederlanders, dat is altijd leuk.

Waar woon je en zit je bij een groep hier in Nederland?

  2. From the album: My Pyrate works

This work is about Claes Compaen, The most Notorious Dutch Pirate.

I have added a short biography of this Great See Rover in this work.

It's a true shame that so few have ever even heard of Claes Compaen these days. Even Dutchmen such as myself.

As he captured more then 350 ships!

His lack of fame these days is possibly because he operated in a time before the Golden Age of Piracy.

    Goldwolf's Jolly Rogers

This here is my personal Jolly Roger collection. All these Rogers and other flags flown by Pirates are my own creation in terms that I either created them from skretch, used existable parts combined with my own made parts, or improved existing Rogers. You can also find all these Frightfull Flags at my DA account http://james-b-roger.deviantart.com/gallery/#Jolly-Rogers
  6. From the album: Goldwolf's Jolly Rogers

This Black Flag belonged to "Richard Worley"

It probably was the second Roger he flew.

In Johnson's General History Worley's flag is described as:
"Black Flag with a Humane Skelleton on it"

  7. From the album: Goldwolf's Jolly Rogers

This here is the First Jolly Roger flown by "Richard Worley"

In Johnson's General History Worley's Roger was described as: "a black Ensign, with a white Death's Head in the Middle of it"

When Worley started his career, this Jolly Roger had not yet have any markings on it, and was therefore a "plain black assign"

This flag is similar to Worley's famous print, with the exception that the two crossed bones are missing.

It is very possible that the two bones were later added to the description in order to make Worley's flag more of a Stereotype Pirate Flag.

I used the skull of Worley's print for this flag, but adjusted it, in order to make it less of an unusual skull compared to skulls in other Jolly Roger prints.

  8. From the album: Goldwolf's Jolly Rogers

Here is yet another Famous Jolly Roger, that has never bin printed (well sort of, but not quite)

It's the first black flag of Edward (Ned) Low(e)

He had this on before his famous Red Skelaton flag.

This flag was discribed in Johnson's General History as followed: " viz, a white skeleton in the middle of it, with a dart in one hand striking a bleeding heart and in the other an hour glass"

Again, I've putten the Dart and heart in the left hand, because this was mentioned first.

I know... It looks A LOT like the existing print of Edward Teach's (Blackbeards) flag.

This becuse it is said that Low borrowed Blackbeard's design, for his own flag. (even though there is no evidence of Edward Teach ever having his now a days famous horned skeleton flag)

Witch is why I've construckted this flag out of both the existing Blackbeard print and Low's existing print.

  9. From the album: Goldwolf's Jolly Rogers

Many Jolly Rogers that where well known during the Golden Age where never re-created and printed. Here is one such a Frightfull Flag.

It's the Black Flag of one of my Personal Favourite Pirates: George Lowther

This "black assign with a death in it" was reported by Captain Edwards, when Lowther attacked his ship the Greyhound. [link]

I traced the flag using this Picture [link] at the site of witch I just gave a Link.

Sins the Skeleton figure in the picture is somewhat miss-shapen by the wind, I've ajusted it to be placed on a flad surface.

Lowhter’s flag was basically similar to Edward (Ned) Lowe’s flag, accept for the death’s colour.

This may be because Edward Lowe served as George Lowther’s lieutenant
for a period of time.

In this time he might have fancied Lowther’s Roger,
and therefore made a similar one accept that he chose to make the skeleton “red” instead of “white”

Possobly to increase the fear-factor of his flag.

  10. From the album: Goldwolf's Jolly Rogers

This Jolly Roger was described in Johnson's General History as followed "it had the figure of a skeleton in it, and a man portrayed with a flaming sword in his hand, intimating a defiance of death itself."

Sins the Skeleton was mentioned before the Man I placed the Skeleton Left and the Man Right.

I’ve made The Skeleton figure (or Death) and the Man looking at each other, because the description states that the man (probably representing Roberts) is defying Death, being the Skeleton

This is also why the Man’s Flaming Sword is aimed in the direction of the Skeleton.

I have based this Roger on parts of my own made Black Bart Jolly Roger [link] The Black Bart Jolly Roger improvements I made [link] and this Black Bart Roger [link]

Though Robert’s flags did seem to have great detail, I believe [link] to be to detailed for a flag of that time,
so of what parts of this flag I did put in my Roger, I have reduced the details.

In case you wish to use this Jolly Roger Please let me know.

  11. From the album: Goldwolf's Jolly Rogers

ere is the second version of "Black Bart Roberts" famous "ABH AMH" flag.

This black assign was seen on the first edition of Johnson's General History.

As you can see this version has an "St. George Cross"in the left corner of the flag.

English War ships often flew "Red" flags with the St George cross in the corner around the time of Roberts operations.

Other ships such as those of Privateers around the time,
had a "white" flag with the St. George Cross in the left corner.

  12. From the album: Goldwolf's Jolly Rogers

Here is one of the most famous Jolly Rogers of the probobly most succesfull Pirate ever: "Black Bart Roberts"

I've made some improvements to his "ABH AMH" flag.

you see, in Johnson's General History This flag was Described as followed: "The Jack had a Man pourtray'd in it, with a flaming Sword in his Hand, and standing on two Skulls, subscribed A B H and A M H i. e. a Barbadian's and a Martinican's Head"

As you see the discription clearly tells of a "FLAMING sword"

In the original print, the Man figure holds an ordinairy sword.

  13. From the album: Goldwolf's Jolly Rogers

This is "Black Bart Roberts" 3e Jolly Roger.

This assign was described in the “Boston Gazette” of August the 22nd, 1720.
As “a Black Flag with Death's head and a cutlass in it”

I made the “Skull” from both Skulls of the “ABH and AMH” Flag, My self made “Black Bart's second Roger” [link]
And the Best known Jolly Roger of Black Bart, the one showing a Figure of Himself Holding an Hourglass With a Skeleton.
And added some Personal feathers to finish it.

As you may have guessed Black Bart had a “Large” collection of Black Flags.

And He’s also reported to have Flown the “English ensign” along witch his Famous “ABH and AMH” Flag.

  14. From the album: Goldwolf's Jolly Rogers

This Jolly Roger belonged to the probobly most succesvol Pirate in the Golden Age of Piracy: "Black bart Roberts"

This flag was Described in "Johnson's General History"
As followed:

"The Flag had a Death in it, with an Hour-Glass in one Hand, and cross Bones in the other, a Dart by it,
and underneath a Heart dropping three Drops of Blood"

A Death means a skelaton figure.

When I construckted this flag, I used some parts from two Black Bart's already existing Jolly Roger prints,
In order to let this on fit in with the classic print of his Jolly Rogers.
