  1. So do most of us.

Patrick flies in from Northern California. I'm out of Northern Utah. Mark flies in from Arizona. John from Canada. Most of us are from nowhere near Florida.

ha. I DO live closer than all those listed :D. Job and family though also are a hindrance.

  2. Sailors knives come in many varieties. You'll often see rigging knives with blunted tips, but you'll see every kind of sailor's knife imaginable elsewhere on a ship. Sharp points, blunt points and folding knives are all common enough. A ship might appoint a regulation about what goes aloft, but there's no reason that you can't have a certain knife as a pirate re-enactor. Some sailors like a sheep's foot. Some like a folder.

I have several. One of them is an all purpose utility knife for all my day to day work. It's a shorter, fixed blade. It has file work on it, but nothing that could get hung up in use. I've cut paper, cloth, line, twine, and not a little food with it. I've also used it extensively for working the bark and knobs off a good walking stick at many events.

My kard is a back up knife for fighting, so I don't carry it about much.

Thank you for the clarity William Red Wake. Cheers mate.

  3. Since this thread was started, i've looked into knives, and one i saw for sale had a blunted tip, ' in case it was dropped from high in the rigging it would lessen the potential for injuries below'. i took the liberty of adding "blunt tipped utility" so you could get a visual as to what i meant. i CERTAINLY make no claim to being an historical expert.

  4. you know cotton, the ONLY person looking for an argument or fight here...is you! I understand your metaphor, what i don't understand is what THAT metaphor has to do with what the intent was or the content was pertaining to, in a deleted scene from the PoTC.

  5. I wasn't aware that this was an argument and i fail to see the connection of your metaphor related to the topic. Haven't you figgered out this site yet? it is ALL about debating what is fact, what is fiction, and what your interpretations of the unknowns are.

  6. i looked at the clip again...he shows her the sparrow and P arm (right), he shows her the left arm which shows solid scars all up and down his veins, and he shows her what appears to be two bullet scars on his upper right chest he shows her these in response to her asking essentially "what is the truth?", now i forget verbatim what he says as he shows these this but it essentially is ..you can't handle the truth.

  7. ok, i'm not gonna parlay back and forth concerning the other means with which he may have introduced drugs subcutaneously to himself, such as quill, sharpened bone, or wood and instead choose to bow out in favor of your superior knowledge.

  8. i'm SURE you know this already, but have you seen the deleted scenes where Jack shows elizabeth the heroin track marks on his arm whehn they're marooned on the island? man.. THAT'S grit!

  9. Mission, i LOVE Depp's take on Sparrow..pure genius...and considering how he used to NEVER play the same role twice you could guarantee that he would give 100% to the individuality of the character. My suggestion was that the actress who would be chosen to play Anne would HAVE to have an equal amount of grit...grit in her heart, soul, AND appearance to truly make the role unique and alive.

  10. HAHAHA...ok i retract any and all statements herein contained....hell...i didn't mean bad skin....you how the 1st POTC had a more gritty feel to it? Before they decided to wash and package jack sparrow for mass consumption? Before they realized that the project would become a franchise, when they were only making one movie? i STILL retract everything. here's where i'm told..."oh they were always going to make more than one...etc etc etc" *sigh*
