  3. OK back to where I left off on the breeches... Completion of the legbands: I finished one legband before I thought of taking pics. So, I pinned the other one up on the outside of the leg for this guide. Basically, the legband is a bit longer than the circumference of the trouser leg. It's sewn on the outside of the leg 1/4 inch from the bottom (i do this step by machine because its covered up when complete). The extra length of the legband hangs off the front side and will overlap the leg slit to catch buttons on the other side of leg slit. Or an alternate method is you could add twine / ribbon / cotton lace thru the inside of the band and stitch the ends of the band at the leg slit (without the overlap). This way the tie goes all the way around the leg, and ties on the outside. Next, flip the legband over the raw edge of the leg. Then the other raw side of the legband is folded under 1/4 inch and attached on the inside of the leg, leaving an 1 inch band. This inside attachment is hand stitched. Once I finish this leg, its on to the buttons and button holes. I didnt plan pockets in these, but I'm still thinking about opening the outside seams and adding some. I almost prefer no pockets. Then there's no excuse to have hands in pockets. I much rather carrying stuff in the inside pocket of a coat or vest, or in my snapsack.
  4. Happy BirfDay!

If you're looking for something to do in Rostock in August 2025, we'd highly recommend 34th Hanse Sail Rostock. According to the official organiser, this event will take place in Rostock, Germany, from Thursday, August 7th to Sunday, August 10th 2025. Whilst we're unable to confirm details at this stage, it's expected that at least one tall ship will take part in 34th Hanse Sail Rostock. As one of the largest maritime festivals in Europe, Hanse Sail Rostock is always a must see event. Whilst an international fleet of over 150 traditionally rigged vessels provides the centrepiece to the event, it’s also about exploring the history, culture and traditions of the Baltic region as a part of Baltic Sail. If you’re keen to experience traditional sail first hand then look no further as Hanse Sail Rostock will offer the chance to step aboard and sail away with many of the vessels in attendance. If you’re entertaining guests there will likely also be deck hospitality opportunities on offer. If you’re a fan of a good finale, make sure you stay up for the fireworks (to be confirmed) on the final evening and stick around for the parade of sail (to be confirmed) the next day as all the ships set sail together in a spectacular farewell to the city of Rostock. For the event schedule, public opening hours and ticket information please visit their official website as timings may be subject to change and your visit may require booking in advance. https://www.hansesail.com/ https://tallshipsnetwork.com/events/33rd-hanse-sail-rostock/

  16. Every year, the 23 August, the charming village of Naoussa, on the Greek island of Paros, hosts one of the most anticipated events by the inhabitants: The Pirate Festival, also known as the Pirate Barbarossa Festival. The event takes place nine days after the Assumption of the Virgin, to celebrate the victory achieved by the inhabitants of Paros, against the pirates and Barbarossa in the 1537. During the Middle Ages, in fact, the pirates used to raid the cities and islands where they often raided. Many Cycladic villages were rendered almost invisible by the sea, so that the pirates could believe that they were uninhabited. The preparations and the festivities begin a few days later the Assumption. On August 23rd, the whole village is celebrating. The young people of the country, parading with masks and disguises in perfect pirate style, to represent the raids. In the sky, fireworks warn of the presence of corsairs and enemy fire. All in a real representation of a battle! The Festival dei Pirati, then, continues until dawn, with songs, dances and traditional dances. You can have fun, go wild and drink rivers of … suma, the typical Paros distillate. And of course, great food. PRACTICAL INFO HOW TO GET Naoussa is located about 10 kilometers north-east of Parikia, the capital of the island of Páros. By car, it can be reached in about 20 minutes, through Epar. Od. Parikia-Naoussa, which you will have to travel for 8 kilometers. The Greek KTEL guarantees bus connections between the capital and Naoussa. The bus operates every day, with the following times: From Parikia. From Monday to Friday, 07:25, 09:00, 10:40, 12:10, 14:15, 16:00. Weekend, 09:00, 12:10, 14:00 (Saturday only). From Naoussa.
