  1. A few of us airship pyrates had discussed starting a fictional story based around Patrick Hand's Columbia's Revenge airship (on which many of us crewe). He kinda wanted to wait and see how the whole airship thing went over on the Pub, and also, he was working on an alternate history for the Republic of California, in which the story would take place. You can see the start of that discussion under the Columbia's Revenge thread. It might be more in keeping with what's already been kinda discussed if the story was kept in the US during 1800's, rather than England, but that's something the players joining in could decide. If it all comes together, I'll certainly hop in and give it a go! :D

And please, do join in on PR. The more the merrier.

I read the Columbia Revenge thread to see what has already been discussed, and I do plan on joining the PR thread once I have read everything previous.

  2. I have been enjoying reading all the works for the current stories, and I will probably look into joining the current PR storyline, but I have a fantasy/steam punk urge that I like in my writing style.

With that in mind I noticed that there was no fantasy or steam punk based stories currently going on. More historical based fiction.

If you would be interested in beginning a role-play adventure set during Victorian times, with a Steam punk flair, please post and let me know.

If there is enough interest I will create a setting background and we can begin working on characters.

I was not sure if this thread belong in the Skull and Quill section or back in Airship Pirates. If it need be moved, please let me know how, and I will move it post haste.

  3. I can't believe nobody said Wild Wild West, and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (tho it is a little lame).

I agree with moth movies above.

I personally liked League as I felt it kep to the feel of the graphic novel. I did not like the addition of Tom Sawyer though, and Sean Connery was perfect as Alan quartermain.

I remember a show back in 2000/2001 The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne. I liked this show and it definately fell into this genre.

I also wanted to bring up the movie Wanted (2008). While the movie itself was not Steampunk, whom here does not want one of the modified semi auto flintlock guns, or the sniper rifle musket?

  4. At events I usually resort to stews (I have an excellent recipe that I will post when I get home this evening), or cold cuts/cold meats (I will buy the store pre-cooked rotissery chicken and quarter them.

My wife and I also do a lot of pasties, which can be made in bulk ahead of time, and a camp fire toaster stick is a great way to re-heat them, or deep fry in a dutch oven. the bext recipe we have found for pasties is Alton Browns pasty shell. you can fill it with pretty much anything and we have.

I have tried the dutch oven cooking, and also the plank cooking. As mentioned before they are cedar smoking planks. I pick mine up at CostCo you can get a package of 8 for about $10.

  5. Once ‘pon a time, a silly way to start.

But how else to tell a tale from my heart?

It be ‘bout love, ‘tween a man and a lass

Whose body would tempt a priest giving mass

This tale does not start with help from above

To tell you the truth, it starts in a pub

Sailor were drinkin’, as they’re want to do

    Others be eating Salmagundi Stew.

Now sailors get loose-lipped, when they get drunk

Talkin’ ‘bout ships that could use a good dunk

And on this dark night a king learned o’ one

It would set sail ‘pon the rise of the sun

Why would a king be ‘round scoundrels like these?

Well he was a pyrate, King of the Seas

He was quite rugged, wore no silk or lace

And he be known by all as Captain Justin Kase

Enough of him now, we’ll talk of him more

Later when cannons erupt with a roar

Let’s talk of the ship, which he would be after

That others hadn’t heard over drunk laughter

It be a Spanish Galleon, with gold in its hold

Begging for stealing by those who were bold

And planning was needed for this thievery

So he quaffed his grog, and then took his leave

Now while he left the pub, on that dark night

Another had Spanish gold locked in her sight

She was the lass we mentioned before

And lo be the man who mistook her for whore

She too was a pyrate, with her own ship

And she was not one to let this prey slip

So plans she did make while drinking her rum

On just how to spend that nice tidy sum

Both made for their ships, and gathered their crews

For the next day they would collect their foul dues

And two different crews there couldn’t have been

One sported women, the other one men

When next morning came, the crews were all set

Yearning and drooling for gold they would get

They knew of the ship that soon would set sail

Both crews had their plans they knew would not fail

So ships sailed through day and all the next night

And by the next dawn, there be an island in sight

They approached the island from opposite ends

And had no clue what be round the next bend.

They sailed into a bay, and a fog did descend

And neither saw the each other as they came round the bend.

Upon Spanish galleon both ships did creep

Looking ‘pon it as a wolf looks ‘pon sheep

Their cannons were loaded and swords were drawn

Itching for a fight like true devil spawn.

One larboard, one starboard, they bordered the ship

Waiting for orders from their captains’ lip

And Orders were given, cannons did roar

Flashes of light made cannon balls soar

The galleon groaned with each direct hit

The sailors aboard were having a fit

Now the orders be simple, to cripple, not sink

For gold be hard to remove from the drink

But just as the pyrates were to board the doomed ship

Justin did watch as it took a quick dip

Oh he was mad, as furious as can be

For he watched his prize go to sly Mistress Sea

Justin then yelled at his master gunner

Commanded the shocked pyrate, “What the hell sunk her?”

As if answering him, the fog did disperse

And Justin did stifle another loud curse

For across the way, upon her own ship

Was Captain Anya, with her hands on her hips

She watched as the gold sank, far out of her reach

And blamed her foul luck on some son-of-a-beach

It was then she looked up and peered cross the smoke

Any other harsh words were stopped ‘fore her lips spoke

Their eyes did meet ‘cross the smoke and the fire

And each could sense, a deep dark desire

Because they be pyrates, ‘twas not love at first sight

But it be a feeling that would last into the night

Both crews were silent as their captains stood there

Not moving an inch, for no one would dare

They be wary if their captains be riled

Then Justin did wink, and Anya then smiled

By the time the sun set on both of the ships

Both crews were entwined from their lips to their hips

Some of the crew could be found wrapped within sheets

Others were in the crow, doing acrobatic feats

Now lust turned to love on that briefest of nights

As two were made one by dawn’s early light

Over breakfast he asked her to come sail with him

But she would not leave her crew on the smallest of whims

“So bring them along, that’s what we will do”

“My ship be big enough for either one crew or two”

She then asked of him, “But what of my ship?”

“I’ve plans for its use, on more than this trip.”

He had no answer, so he kissed her instead

And they both fell ‘pon his large captain’s bed

Hours later, in dreams he found her asleep

From the cabin Justin did silently creep

She woke from her dreams with a smile ‘pon her face

Then frowned just a bit as her hand touch dead space

She lay on a bed that was ‘posed to be shared

And opened her eyes to find no one else there

She fixed her wild hair and put on a long coat

And went to find he who captained this boat

She found him on deck, the crews seemed asleep

Her boat stood empty, floating there ‘pon the deep

She stood there confused, then the truth hit,

When Justin did whisper simply, “Sink it.”

And cannons did roar, and cannon balls flew

And they struck her ship, as they’re want to do

“YOU BASTARD, YOU MONSTER.” She did yell at him

But he could not hear her over the loud din

She slapped him, and hit him, and slapped him some more

And he took it and watched her ship sink to the floor

And that be the start of their intriguing love life

And believe it or not he took her for wife

But before she would wed, a promise was wrest

He would replace the ship that he had laid to rest</SPAN>

  6. I could use a cat o' nine tails.

I suspect that the cabin girl has become overly fond of Lord Nelson's Blood

I will post some of the pictures of my work in the crafting section. If you like what you see please contact me and i am sure we could work something out.

Though I must warn you, my "toys" are designed more for pleasurable punishment and have been known to increase the naughty, mischevious, and impish behaviors of many crews (and some royalty) for they knew of the punishment that awaited them.

  7. WELCOME!!!

Why am I getting visions of the move Sahara and a War 'Tween the States Confed gunboat . . . ?

Or the "Locker" in Pirates of the Caribbean 3 (which has nothing to do with older traditions)?

Anyways, Welcome to the pub for pyrates and pirates (and privateers . . . )!

That is nothing I was recently re-watched Wind Wagon Smith (Old Disney Cartoon) with my kids and they asked me why I just couldn't put wheels on my ship.... Hmmm something to think about.

  8. Living in a desert valley I have a lot of sleeveless garb that I wear in the summer time, and recently I felt that my arms were too bare.

I had about 3 days before I was about to participate in an Annual AIDS walk and I wanted something to accessorize with my red garb, so I decided to whip up a couple of bracers.

Now the end product is not period, but the end result is what I was looking for as people did notice them. They were eight inches in length and went a good way up my forearm.

I kinda felt like a pyrate superhero wearing them.

Here they are after the carving and being water formed to the proper shape.

Here is a closeup of the Skull and mermaid.

I knew that a natural finish would keep the carving very apparent, but my colors are red and black, and I wanted these to really stand out.

So here are the finished products.

With closeups of the skull and mermaid once again.

My favorite of the two is the mermaid I am really happy with the way she turned out. Even with the red stain you can still see the detail in her.

Here is a picture of me, with a wine-o (anouther group walking), and I am wearing the bracers. You can get a better feel of the superhero idea in this pic that I mentioned before.

  9. Ahoy to all ye wenches scallywags, and nare-do-wells.

I be Captain Justin Kase of the Dread Pyrate Ship SeaMonkey at your service.

I have sailed the desert sands for many years, as my ship was deposited in a desert valley. Do not ever end up on the wrong side of a cat-clawed Sea Goddess. They be a fickle and spiteful bunch.

She was nice enough however to deposit me and my ship in the City of Sin, Nv.

Here in this desert kingdom I have gained a new crew, my wife Anya Kase, and my two devious children Aud Kase and Damm Hansom (he used to be called Brief).

I attend festivals in SoCal, Arizona, and participate in the meek faire offering of my city in Oct.

Most of my time is spent in local events, demonstrations, and classes for desert dwellers (young and old) teaching them about the life of a sea-farer.

I am also a leatherworking craftsman (specializing in handmade Cat O' Nine Tails, and carved Bracers). I have dabbled in enough poetry and other writing that has earned me the Non De Plum of Silverback, the Naughty Bard.

So after all these years I have just found this pub, and wished I knew of its existence long before. I feel that I will be a frequent visitor to it.

So please partake in the rum that I offer, and I also brought some limes... you know just in case!
