  1. Good day to ye sir. Aye I will be looking into 'em wares as well. By chance do ye vend at any Oklahoma Faires. It seems that the name "pirates keep" be familiar to me.

As tradition decrees I'll be haveing a brandy! If ye please bar keep, on my "friends" coin of course.

  2. I agree wrong place wrong time. Me oldest wears one and has never to me knowledge caught it on any one. She does loose plenty of coins but that is from sitting on unsanded planks and/or the ground.

The girl in question was lucky ye even tried to apologize. You could have given a sharp slap to the arse and told her to get over it.

  3. Just this weekend past, Friday. My youngest was answering to the call of Macintyer. The group singing it was "The Bildge Pumps". Any way one of the singers notice she is mimiking all the moves and singing on cue. So he tells her tomarrow when they do that song she needs to come up and sing it with them. Now they are always inviting people up to sing with so this invite givin from the mike was just as much for the crowd as it was for me sprog. She took the invite to hart as being a personal invite for her.

Come Saterday we could not get her to stop running up on stage for EVERY SONG. Now we are trying to be respectful and keep her an a bench so they can do thier set. Wich, if ye have ever meet me youngest, knows that be an imposible thing. We joke she should have been born a red head cause of her temper. With arms crossed in a huff and a look that would freeze ye dead in ye step she says "Why can't I sing with them I know all the words better than Crow and Harvey said I could sing today."(Crow being one of the group)

  4. Not everyone can just up and take a vacation. Try a change in routin or a bit of color in a eye catching spot,And let in the light when ever possible!

mmm......or just post that Iron Bess's photo in an eye catching spot.

  5. We are heading to the Norman Faire this weekend. Perhaps we will run into some of 'm. If you whant me to recognize ye Okies send me ye name and be looking for me and mine. We are unmistakable: Captain, Bosun, Bellydancer, and a fairy compose our little group.

  6. Arrr, I be scanning the landlocked prarie sea of Oklahoma for ye mates. It ways heavely on me brow that 'ere be no Pyrates in this 'ere pub from the Oklahoma plains. Aye I know 'ere must be a few!!! I hail from the Tulsa area and am looking for some good mates to share a bottle, share a story, share an overall good time with.

  7. Aye, welcome. The pub, it be a friendly place for sure.

Slide a brandy down my way and we'll have a toast.

El'lo to friends far and near.

  8. yesterday i be a the social security administration office and yes thier is a wait. me captain, father-in-law, and myself be there waiting. a lady walks up and just starts talking to us as a group. she startes moving closer and closer until she is standing between us, us almost encircling her and she is still talking about....i don't even know. my father-in-law left, went outside and stayed there.

this lady was not taking any of the curtious hints we were giving her. at one point she actually reached over touched me captains arm and asked if he was listening to her.

GET THE POINT LEABE US ALONE!!!!!!!!!

what is sad is she probley is just an old lonly lady looking for a little attention but this happens to me everywhere i go. i have actually had cashiers pull out photos of family to show me. i am only trying to get me grociers home.

  9. Yesterday i was shopping for some viddels with me captain. Having a PRIVATE conversation about ice cream...buy ar not to buy. This lady stops starts pulling out flyers and telling us that blue bunny is on sale at adifferent store for $4 were as the current store is got it for $6.

I am not leaving current store to drive 6-8 miles to find ice cream $2 cheaper.

  10. ye no it is bad when ya father-in-law looses his job of 28 years and then has to beg the son to hire him as part of the crew. he has been looking for work in any field for the last 6-8 months and now has to settel for what ever my captain can through him, poor sole.

WOW my head hurts! Have ye ever woke up to drunk to know ye be drunk so your hang over catches you awake. That were i be

  11. Each to their own.

Some can sew, some cannot. And yes, merchants sell what people buy, mostly to the general public and so few to th' more historically correct. Being correct takes a bit of an investment (time, money, etc)

This is where I get confused, most of those vendors listed, speak of their wares being proper 18th Cent. and some particularly to the latter half of the 18th Cent. This puts them OUT of the GAOP period. With some information making the point that what is appropriate for the Fur Trade era is not for the Rev.War. So what exactly can I get that will work for GAOP?!

    :::points to signature:::

Though new to business, tis m' goal not t' make "cookie cutter" attire but attire that fits YOUR persona. (yes, shameless plug there)

Those who can sew, what Patrick Hand stated is very good advice, too. Keep yo'r eyes open, you can find said fabrics at discount prices or even on the remenant table. Trust me, there are PLENTY of period fabrics out there. And if ye know where to look, you can get them for a fantastic price.

It's always up to th' person if they want to look the way they want in pop culture costumey look or if they want to be more realistic and historical.

    ~Lady B

thank ye all, I didn't mean to open a jar of worms but interesting never the less. I do sew most of our costumes. I even enjoy sewing. Something about taking a pattern and sewing it so no one can see the mistakes just makes me happy. ;)

Now I am in the middle of two cloaks and a pirate coat. Oklahoma weather can be a bugger. Last year we went to the ren. fair at Normand,OK for the first time. Even though the days were near 65 the early mornings had more than a bit of chill to the air. Now with the first weekend in April coming fast i spend all me extra time sewing.

I comend you men on sewing in such cramped spaces. Hell, I comend you for sewing at all. Ican just imagine the blundering mess my captain would create if i allowed him loose in my sewing room. I am quite confident he would sew some part of himself to his own self.

P.S. I will have a look-see at those web sites you posted, fore sure.

  12. When at fair can you trust the shopes to sell items that are period or hollywood?

At Faire, the Merchants are going to sell whatever sells..... And most of it is going to be Hollywood....

The Merchants at Faire are trying to make a living, not do the historical research for everyone....So if you are looking for historically accurate goods, you should know what you are looking for....

Thanks, thats what i thought. i guess after reading all the posts i reluctantly have decided my crew and i fall into the fantasy camp. i love history and whant to be historicaly correct but it is just to expensive to buy the right stuff all the time plus we manly do this for a fun activity all the family can participate in. if my kids whant to be a belly dancing gypsy, fairy, or a mermaid i just can't stop them we have to much fun.

  13. wow !! long intro :) where's the rum ??

welcome, have fun, and buy us all a round :lol::lol:

i won't apologize for the lengh. a good story is worth tellin to an audience worth listen. once the grog starts my pin does seem to get away from me. i do realize after ta fact i should have posted the story under bio's but arrrgh it be to late now.

    fair winds be with ye

  14. authintic to period or not? that is the question!

When at fair can you trust the shopes to sell items that are period or hollywood?

i picked up a leather belt from the leather smith. it looks cool but somehow i don't think a 8 inch wide, buckels in back, and studed with skulls is very functional or approriate. considering the cost of such items is thier rule of thumb what is period and what is hollywood? i would like to add as period a piece as possible when building my kit.

  15. el'lo i am the BOSUN RED! i hail from the plains of oklahoma. i've been enjoying the conversations and thought it time to be heard. my captain, i and our crew have been attending the OKRF for the last 6 years. we really enjoy being able cut loose at this ren. fair and have started to broden our travels to other fairs in the oklahoma area. last year was our first visit to normand, Ok. truley, a market of items to purchase. being fairly new i am looking for a bit of schooling on things in general. we each have developed a character of sorts and a story behind the characters...............

Captain skully found himself far from a friendly port and a mutany at hand. His first mate was leading the rebelion.Being at sea and away from all that was most familiar to them the crew were afraid that Captain Skully was out of his mind searching for an unatainable treasure. Captain Skully pulled his musket and shot the First mate standing before him. In a blink his scabbored was pulled before the mate's dead body hit the deck. The captain let out a blood curdeling yell "aaaarrrrrr if there be a man among you who would challange me step forward and take your death. An uncomfortable silence hung in the air thick as fog. The crew shifted side to side and looked at each other without a leader the steam had run out of thier mutany.

A slinder boy appearin to be not over 20 years stepped forward. The captain laughed "Do you think you have what it takes? Arm your self!" " I am armed, but i don't challenge ye. If i am mistaken i apologize but it apears to me ye be in need of a first mate to keep this group of scallywags under thumb."

"When i pick my next mate i can promise ye he will be a man of experienced years at sea, not a boy not even old enough to shave. Also he will be a man that can handle a blade &/or his weapon of choice."said the captain

"I may not be a man of experienced years but i know my hearts calling and that is the sea. I can handle a blade if the need arises but my weapon of choice be me bull whip." said the young sailer

"Ye have balls as big a canon shot i will give ye that. If ye think ye can handle this group then i will give you a go as bosun." said the captain "At least untill the next port. If the rest of ye are willin to serve me and me new bosun ye won't be left at the next port. everyone back to ye work and get this sorry bag of dog shit off of my deck!!"

later in quarters the captain confides to the Bosun "at the next port we will be findin a new crew.I can not trust these that have tried mutany against me once."

"Perhaps i know of a way to garentee thier loyalty." said the red haired Bosun "There be a tale of an island whose residents be fairies. These fairies it is said to have magical poweres over the week minded. They be able to control a persons thoughts and actions. If you were to posses such a fairy any crew could be nothing but loyal to ye."

"And how do ye purpose to find this island. I have heard of these tales as well. As legend states this island they live on is a floating island with no set cordenents?"asked Captain Skully

"It floats 'long the currents and arn't we in the perfect position to whatch what might float by? We need just ancore here for a time." said the bosun

As the days change to weeks the crews open distast for the waiting grows to the point of boiling. Fights break out daily. Three crew members have been killed over petty squables and the food is running low. The Bosun's was called daily to lay out lashes for those that were rocking the boat so to speak. They can not stay still for much longer and then at dusk on the 5th week of waiting a "land ho" is heard from the crows nest. The crew scramble to the railing. Land had not been spoted yesterday or the day befor, where did it suddenly apear from? It had to be the island the captain had been holding out for.

The Bosun orderd the long boat to be launched and picked two strong men to accompany him ashore. a small latern lit thier way across the gray waters as they reached land the bosun jumped out first. "stay with the boat i won't be long!" was the comand said coursley over his shoulder as he disapeared into the folliage. From somwhere inside his coat a pendent was pulled it glowed with an unearthly light. This was a beacon no fairy could reseist. Soon a rustling from the brush produced a small child of a fairy with milk white skin, golden locks of sun kissed hair, and sky blue eyes. She was mesmorized by the light glowing from the pendent. She did not move not even blink as the red haired bosun sliped a small gold band around her neck."You will follow me always and are from this point on mine to comand." the bosun whispered into her ear."follow!" and they retired back to the long boat. The four figures sat in silence as they rowed back to the ship the crew men could only stare at the mythical being among 'em.

The captain was estatic taking the child into his cabin. At first he demanded "work your magic and ensure me my crews aligence!" "I am not yours to comand. Only my master can make such a request of me." stated the child "And who be ye keeper then?" asked the Captain "The one who so craftely incircled my neck with this inchanted band ." she said

"BOSUN!!!!"yelled the captain "What be the meaning of this? ye were to bring a fairy to me to comand, to ensure the alligence of the men!" "I had to take comand of her or she wouldn't hav left her home willingly. Fairy child do as the Captain askes and ensure the crews aligence. My Captain i will follow you faithfully if you will treat me as an equal and give me a partnership in all that this ship does." said the Bosun

"Very well ye have not left me anyother option. Have ye?" said the captain

At the next port the men were left to thier drunkin rejoicing at being onland and in the mixed company that frequented the local pub. as the sun was reaching its zenith a traveling troup of gypsys entered the town square, setting out trinkets and blankets for sale. The young belly dancers came out in a swirl of collor. the Captain and the Bosun had been walkin togetter discussing which of the crew they would keep for the next leg of the journey and which were to be left here. they paused to watch the half naked girls dancing a traditional belly dance. "What high spirits the crew would stay in if we only had a little intertainment on board." said the Captain " ye will arrange to have one of those gypsys bought and brought on board just for that purpose."

The Captain walks away to join his crew in a finally drink for some. the Bosun tries to haggel a price out for one of the gypsy girls but the leader of the troup was not haven any of his troop sold to a dirty pirate. the Bosun is forced to walk away empty handed. once out of sight he calls to the fairy child. "LuLu the captain whishes for a gypsy to intertain us on the voyage ahead. Bring the youth dressed in blue. The one with skin tanned by a kiss of sun. The one with hair the color of choclate and eyes of dark golden pools. bring 'er to the ship promptly at the time of our departure tomarrow morn."

The next morn as the light of day slides accross the land a handfull of very hung over pirates make thier way back to the ship. As does a gypsy in a trans like state. the men ready the ship to sail and out to sea they head Captain Skully,Bosun Red, LuLu the Fairy, Jade the gypsy girl and a few rag a muffin sailors. All awaiting the adventure the new day would bring.
