  1. I have to ask as bit an lowely deck hand, but be that yer ship in your signature? Seems me been a bit hijacked. Either that or I now know why me rums all gone...Whilst I WISH I was a force within the brethren, I was not even there on SUnday nor any other day at Pip not the Reenactor's Fest. My apologies for the falsity of the knave whom has assumed mine identity. I have a cutlass reserved for the brigand. It be dull and a bit rusty, yet I feel sure, twill not be an effort to run it through the scurvy knave.
  2. Hope you had a great Christmas!

  3. Well that be true and it be a fact, but I have never done that me one self. Any suggestions on how to do that?
  4. Here is what I came up with on the brown... I am having some trouble with it though. The front strap (the short one with the buckle is attached with the 2 conchs. (I know, not PC), but it is pulling away from the "frog" section. I think I will need to either A) use contact cement or B0 take it to a shoe repair shop and have them stitch it. What do you all think?
  5. Ok here are the shots of the leather after I cut the hide into the 3 segments for each baldric
  6. Those are AMAZING! Thanks for sharing. Its like another Christmas present!
  7. Merry Christmas ye Blimey Bilge Rats!!!
  8. CABoots is also having a 50% clearance sale on closeout boots. HERE I LOVE mine. They will last longer than I will too. EDIT - They are now up to 55% off.
  9. I have the peices cut and I grooved the edges. I am not tooling a section of the belts and the frog. Tonight I should be dying the leather. I'll post some more images of the work in progress tonight.
  10. Wow, I cannot believe I am the one who brought up the scouting reference. I only meant that the scarfs would be easier to see than a bracelet and would make a cool token after PIP. I will certainly choose my words more carefully in the future.
  11. Warm greetings fellow former Rochesterian. Fair winds to you and may all your pirating dreams come true.

  12. Mickey, no hornets nest stirred up. Perhaps I have come across more negatively than I meant to. Like I said in my previous post, black powder instruction is a great idea... But that whole thing leads to a potential mess of "who" gets to decide who is safe or not. As has been expressed many times in many threads, one of the most magical thing about PiP, is all the people coming from all different places working together well and happily, a soon as you place anyone in charge of decision making like who can play and who can't... That magic is likely to disappear. On that I can't agree more. I've seen it also time and time no mater what the event be. Problem with this writin' thing, much is lost in tone and gesture. Much prefer, do I, to talk over me grog in a pub with the waves slapping their song as the music...Cheers Mickey, ye have no argument with me, and that be the truth it is.
  13. I'm all in favour of classes should there be any willing to teach and take them... It was the intonation that one needed the "merit badge" in order to play that I disagree with. Some of us may not have the option of travelling early to take a mandatory weapons class. Sorry to stir up the hornets nest. I guess my thinking included the folks who are already known to be capable to be exempt from any instruction unless they wanted to be instructors themselves. And it seems the idea of the scouting imagery may have set the wrong "tone" me thinks...
  14. Those do be beauties and I find meself in the market, as it were. Trouble is, not sure if I can get them down to a 31-32? What say you on that?
  15. Been on a Sailor Jerry kick lately...
  16. I like this idea. One of the things we're going to look at for future events is the shooter as well as the weapon. We want to make sure the person behind the weapon knows what they're doing. I've done this before with cannon and it has worked out well. We'll still want to do daily inspections--safety, safety, safety. Now that I've gotten to know many of you shooters, I am comfortable asking for your help with inspections as well as policing shooters. Dutch, I would really like to enlist you... I am looking forward to participating next year. I would like to offer a suggestion if I might. What about giving a class prior to the event for those who want to participate. Upon completion, graduates of the class could be given a neck scarf with a distinctive color to wear so that the were CLEARLY qualified. Additionally, instructors could have edging sewn on the scrarf The idea comes from boy scout camp and use of the fire arms on the rifle range. I clearly remeber wearing my neck kerchief with great pride once I had earned it! You could even come up with a name for the firing brigades and have them embroidered in somehow (if that doesn't violate PC of course!)
  17. The one incident to which Brig refers was finally resolved when I informed the lady in question (who had repeatedly crossed the line I had pointed out to her) that the wind was blowing in her direction, sparks and fire come out the business ends of the guns and that if the big-arsed feathers in her hat caught fire I was going to throw it, and her, into the moat. I may have growled a bit. She retreated to the second row of spectators. Of course that didn't stop the next batch from pressing forward. A rope line might be a bit better. Now I would have love to have seen that and more specifically her face. Growled a bit indeed!
  18. Well make sure you let me know what the other forum is! Till then, here are some of the buckles I am considering
  19. Although I was not there, I have enjoyed all your pictures. Thanks for the posts. I stumbled upon some video of you all at the cannon firing. I have linked it to my website, its down towards the bottom a bit. Visit My Website Be sure to sign the guest book and say hi! Enjoy.
  20. Hmmm, I actually checked the hide again, and its a 6-7 oz shoulder hide. I did a test and doubling it is REALLY stiff. I may just have to go a bit lite... I am also trying to track down "Swords and Blades of the American Revolution", thanks for the tip.
  21. Most excellent advice! I was thinking of making it double layered. I am lucky to have an old school shoe repair just around the corner with 3 leather sewing machines (I know that's cheating but, well) and I was going to have them stitch the sides together. I can figure out the dimensions on the straight pieces, its just how big to make the "Y" section that is the frog that I am fretting over. I am planning on making it out of cardboard tomorrow and seeing what it looks like. Thanks Mickey. You are a treasure trove!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. I just came home with a lovely hide of 3-4 oz leather that I am looking forward to making into a baldric or two. I hav a slew of reference photos that I am going to use (and I am sorry to say Captain Sterling and Mickey S. that I have pilfered these images from Hollywood!). However, I am a little vague on the dimensions of the 3 components that I am to make. Has anyone made their own (I am sure that you all have) and do you have a pattern that you would be willing to share? I am also looking for a non Acme Brand (Hollywood) alternative for a buckle if any of you have a suggestion. I am thinking to make the baldric about 2.25 inches wide... Thanks for any suggestions....
  23. They don pinned me ears back and gave over with not but a barbers knife. Swore to me that the loss of there would be added to my girth down there. Tis true so I am told. They have give my sword a name or two, but truly I pay thoses sill lasses no heed. As fer learnin, I am a man who repects the letters and numbers, and most of all, the lore found in the likes of ye and yer shipmates! Well mmet Rumba Rue **tips the rum jug over Rumba Rue's mug**
  24. Lively be a most familiar reckoning on me charts, to be sure. On double dose of Plunder Me Cherry with a case of extra cherries. Fer ye be knowing that ye can never have too many cherries! **raises his rum and gives abit of a shanty**
