  1. Hey ... as long as she fires true, that's a darn good price. Is that bayonet edged? Wartooth
  2. Nice piece. Now how about some details? Price? Where'd you get her? Wartooth
  3. Probably. From the way Trapper describes the baling process, it would flare just like hay. I worked on horse ranches for a few years in Florida and NJ. We had a farmer bring in a truckload of bales one summer. All were fresh and clean. Yet one of those bales started throwing off wisps of smoke a month after we got it. I spent at least an hour hunting out that bale and spreading it out with hose in hand. The very center was HOT and starting to blacken. Strange. Wartooth
  4. Undoubtedly one of my favorite nautical chanteys. However, I've yet to figure out what the heck they're trying to get across. What is the song about? Any ideas? Wartooth
  5. I've already done the research. Several times, in fact. But keep losing the damned notes. Probably shouldn't be writing them down on cocktail napkins. Wartooth
  6. SOLD! When is the publishing date? Will it come with free samples? Is it necessary to be in an alcoholic stupor upon purchasing that fine tome? Easily done, ye know! Why are me hands shaking? Woo-hoo! Nothin' better than pouring a bit of Appleton's over me Boo-Berries! Hope me eyes can stay open long enough to actually read that book. Wartooth
  7. Great site, Foxe. Well done! Wartooth
  8. Thanks for the assistance! Wartooth
  9. Who sells the widest selection of period hats? I am specifically looking for a merchant's "top hat" circa 1775-1800. Simple is fine, as I will be customizing the band with "human" teeth, dog teeth, etc. Wartooth
  10. Sorry, most of the names are indeed Dutch ... or at least Flemish. I studied Dutch and German for a couple of years (still learning German). But I can't thank you boys enough. This was a tremendous help. Wartooth
  11. Hmmm ... just noticed a Jacob Schneider listed. There was a lad by that name in my geneology research on my father's side of the family. Born mid-18thC, but no record of a death or marriage. Coincidence? Yeah, probably. Wartooth
  12. Thank you, Foxe. That is a big help. Most of the names listed are Dutch, but several are indeed German. :) Wartooth
  13. Any time period from Golden Age through the War of 1812. Doesn't have to be Prussian. However, most german sailors of that time would most likely be from the Prussian state due to its proximity to the coastlines. I sort of doubt that any sailing men originated in Bavaria or Saxony ... but who knows? Wartooth
  14. Am looking for evidence of Prussian names on crew lists and such. Have yet to come across anything. See plenty of scottish, english, dutch, etc ... but no German. Any help is greatly appreciated. Wartooth
  15. Wear gloves. I can't emphasize that enough. That stuff will NOT come off your hands without taking a layer of skin with it. Foxe's idea of bitumen paint is a really good one. I hadn't thought of doing that, but certainly will next time. Thanks Foxe! Wartooth
  16. Right on the money as usual, Bess. Del Tin blades are tip-heavy and a bit slow. If you're looking for a functional cutlass, I would stick with a custom piece. Cost ya $500 or so, but will last a lifetime. Or restore a historical naval cutlass ... they're found fairly cheap sometimes. Little bit of elbow grease is all that's needed. Wartooth
  17. Yes. Grace O'Malley is well known but not much talked about by medieval historians. Sure is an article I'd like to read though. Perhaps my local library system my have it on file. Thanks, Renee.
  18. Don't need to sell the cutlass after all!!! Yay for me! :) I was able to make up for the shortage in funds by selling my old (and quite rare) Hendrix and Beatles LPs. For those of you too young to know what an LP is ... think of them as really big black plastic CDs.
  19. I may need to sell a custom forged cutlass in order to help pay for my son's dental surgery. This was a piece one year in the making. 39" long with a 32" 5160 blade. The blade is dull for reenactment and/or costum display but can be sharpened to a tempered functional edge. Comes in at a hefty 6 pounds. Most of that weight is in the ribcage basket which is strong enough to punch through 1/4" plywood easily. Lined with oxblood leather. Black wooden scabbard is included ... it's a tight fit but should loosen over time. Wrapped with red and black leather hanger buckles. Also included is a custom matching leather sash with a detailed skeletal hand gripping a ring. The scabbard buckles attach to the sash. Made for someone fairly large, most likely not able to fit a woman. Am looking for $500. Price includes priority shipping with delivery confirmation and insurance. I paid $750 a year ago. Richard
  20. Sorry I couldn't wait any longer, William. Glad to hear all is well with you, though. I don't believe those two book will be available, as the Lady has given me a very generous offer to purchase them all. I'm guessing she has a lot of time on her hands! Thanks again,
  21. Okay ... William never answered my PM (I hope all is well). As per my previous promise, Lady Seahawke gets her chance at these books. I will PM you, my lady!
  22. Well ... seems we have a whole lot of you wantin' these books! Good for me ... bad for some of you. As I said, it is first come ... first served. So looking at the posting times on the PMs and such, we have Cap'n William getting first choice on them. William ... feel free to make me a fair offer. I can accept Paypal, checks, money orders. When the Cap'n is through filling his proverbial basket, I will amend the list. Lady Seahawke gets second chance at the remainders. HarborMaster comes in a close third for any possible scraps leftover.
  23. Found a box of books at an estate sale. I already have some and have read the others. Thought I would give you ladies and gents the first crack at them prior to selling 'em on Ebay. First come ... first served. I am willing to negotiate on prices, if buying more than one. I ship USPS Media Rate per weight of the package. Shipping costs not included. PM me or email me. 24. That does help considerably. Thank you. My German is halfway decent ... I think ... and the keywords you give should aid immensely. My German ancestors are from Hamburg and Kiel, so I thought I should like to learn a bit about their naval/privateering activities. I've been trying my hand at Dutch too, considering other ancestors of mine lived there and were banished after the war with Spain and became corsairs in North Africa. Wartooth
