Ahoy!..Not really 'pirate', but....I'm selling off some swords; not replica, but period. USN model 1852 and USMC model 1851 NCO. Both date to Spanish American war. Also a matching belt rig... A genuine model 1861 Officer's Staff and Field, Army of the Potomac, smallsword type. All with scabbards, altho the Navy rig is a newer replacement(the leather rots away fast at sea) Mebbee some more to follow, as I just let go of a huge saber to a fellow rogue......

Before looking at the pics, read this: The brocade I ordered wasn't the same, so I ended up replacing what was already there with the new. I added correct length arms with proper cuffs. I also lined the arms as it will help shirts with long sleeves slide in better. I also added a nice touch of brocade around the edge of the skirting along with some antique looking trim to set it off. I slit the back skirting to look more like a coat than a women's 19th Century hunting frock, and added a nice touch of 'belting' for interest. All in all I sunk about another hundred dollars into the thing. I'm very pleased with the new results. I'm also including the EBay seller of the br…

Ok I finally finished the coat I had two friends fighting over who was going to get it. The material is a lightweight brocade with a matching lining, complete and useful pockets. Since the gal I decided that should have it is a wee bit smaller than me in height (I'm 5'3"), it will be perfect for her frame. The length of the coat isn't as long as some, because I was making it for a woman. I had a little bit of left over trim and made a small matching pouch to go with it (something I do a lot for people- no charge), using some of the black cotton velvet I used in the front. I have 5 different frock coat pattern designs, so far I've used three to make three different kind…

Gent, I'm thinking of buying that shirt pattern you recommended from Kanniks Korner. Question... how difficult is the pattern? Or put another way... how good are the instructions? TIA!

I don't know if any of you remember me talking about the safflower-dyed frock coat I was making for my husband for a Colonial Ball in October, but I've finally gotten pictures of him in it. They aren't the best (the light was really low, so the pictures are a bit blurry), but you can still get an idea of what the coat looks like. Here's the URL. Page down for the pictures of the finished coat: Safflower Frock Coat I'm seeing a friend who is a professional photographer this weekend and she'll probably take some better pictures of it for me. In these photos, you can't even see the hand-done buttonholes.

I have a certain silver coin that I would like to look old... how does one tarnish silver? Just wearing it won't work for me... for some reason, silver doesn't tarnish on me.

I just got me a 'Calico Jack' shirt from Carlisles. Beautiful piece of work, but one thing seems a little odd. The collar is about 5" wide unfolded. Seems a bit too big to me. I wonder if that's 'period' or what?

I'm selling a brand new never worn plus size frock coat bodice that I bought but then decided just wasn't quite right. The Frock Coat Bodice features a low-cut, front lacing skirted bodice (the skirting is in panels, to create a full-circle effect - VERY full with no bulk at the waist) with contrasting trim at the wide cuffs, and pullback corners at the front base of the skirting. The Frock Coat Bodice laces at the front through grommets, and you can see similar pictures at http://www.verymerryseamstress.com/pirates.htm the coat for sale is made with black cotton velvet, black and red brocade, no trim, and lovely gold buttons with clear gems as the cuffs, turnbacks, an…

I was wondering if any one had some recommendations for either good pictures to inspire garb, or knew of some very good patterns. I had picked up some Simplicity patterns (their colonial costume patterns) and with a bit of altering I found that they worked ok, but I was wondering if there were any other suggestions?
