Renaissance Magazine, one of the most repected magazines in the Renn circuit, is putting out a Pirate issue for July , on stands in mid-August. Now this mag, though not usualy dierectly of interest for us sea-farin folk, does do a good job in thier research and I find they can can add a bit o' knowledge on most topics ( I personally subscribe.. I loves the old ways). AND, the are doing an article about the best new Pirate bands, one from each geographical area. West coast, Texas, Florida, Mid-west and Eastern seaboard. A very dear friend of mine is searching for a bulk supplier of pirate eye patches for an event he's holding. The problem is he'd really like to find some that can be custom silkscreened, so the cheap plastic ones aren't an option - nor are the flimsy faux silk ones. Does anyone have any idea where he would be able to find 500 decent quality eye patches? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

But I did get a chance a few days ago to upload some new ClipClocks in a Wiccan/Goddess theme. There are a few new ones in the Celtic area as well. If you need to contact me, please use my email address in my Members Information. Thanks! Deanna www.clipclocks.com

I'm currently making a haversack and am wondering if it should be lined. From all the past threads and pics I've seen, I can't tell if they are lined or not. Thanks for the help and I apologize if this has already been answered and I missed it.

The Google Earth discussion over in CAPTAIN QUILL started my little brain to working and I thought some people here may like to hear what it was working on. My specialty is making maps in many different ways from the latest high tech to hand drawn on canvas so I thought I'd pass on one relatively simple way for pirates to make their own cool charts. The first step is to find a graphic file of an old chart. Some of the best are at: http://www.davidrumsey.com/ these maps can be used by you personally but not for profit without permission. Use the search tools to find a map and once you figure out which map you want, select it and choose Data on the far left side of the …

Are you a Pirate but you're not from the Golden Age of Piracy? Do you long for clothing from an earlier time period? Know that frock coats and cocked hats aren't period for the SCA? Are you portraying one of Drake's Privateers at your Faire? Well do I have a goodie for you... Introducing Reconstructing History's latest: RH210 -- Elizabethan Sea Dogs

As soon as I saw this elsewhere, I ran to the closest Hallmark store and got the very last one on the shelf! They sell for $16.50, and the representation is very good, better than a lot of the toys out there. It's heavy so hanging it on a tree might not be feasible, mine is sitting on top of the computer screen.

Shot with Photosmart M525 at 2007-06-27 A wonderful little knot used for heaving line, the monkeyfist was also used as a "concealed weapon" shoreside in a shorter form. Using about 5'-6' of rope, the knot is tied and weighted and the rest of the line braided until around a foot of line remains. This is spliced back into the braid and thus made into a lanyard. While useful as a swung weight, it was often used thrown into the vulnerable areas of an opponent's body from a hidden position to surprise and stun before their continued beating or your... dashing escape. Details for constuction to follow shortly, let me post this before I screw it up.

Okay, Cannot really go too much into detail yet on why I need these. But I am helping design an outfit which may resemble the outfit Will Turner wears in the beginning of POTC 2, his wedding outfit. If anyone can help it'd be appreciated. I'll update this much later on why and what ends up happening.

I am going to need a new coat this winter. It's enevitable. So as I cruise reliks.com, I happen upon a couple beauties. I know the are not historically accurate, and that is not the point. So, my main question would be- Of these two, the First Mate's and the Buccaneer's, which pattern (not material) is period. If both happen to be, then I suppose my pockets and I fight it out over which comes home with me. Just a note, this is primarily for an everyday coat, not re-enacting, so it musn't be to the precision you mates here in Captain Twill ponder at all hours.

Awhile back I asked for input as to what I should do with my old CVA Blunderbuss kit gun. I decided not to rebuild from scratch after all, and am in the process of re-shaping the stock. Here's what I started with... I will post photos of the project as I complete steps. Right now the final stain coat is drying in the shop. I'll put it partially together later to show the difference in it to date. Here is phase I... More to come...

When I asked for help choosing a sword, I found a whole host of goodly people on this site willing to assist me in my search. I have spent some time combing through old threads here all related to swords. It seems like there are a lot of people asking for and receiving the same help as me, as it relates to swords. With this in mind, in an effort to assist future sword seekers I thought I'd post up a listing of cutlasses that I found that seem appropriate. I can't vouch for any of the swords, their manufacturers, or their retailers as I haven't bought one yet and so have no first hand experience (in other words, buyer beware). In order from least expensive to most expensi…
