Anyone here interested in being a drummer for a pirate reenacting group? Or a drummer for a early colonial militia group? Or both? Or better yet, anyone here have a hurdy gurdy and want to join up with some pirates? I figure this is a shot in the dark, but one never knows unless one asks. Come to think of it, I'll settle for a player of any period instrument. You supply the music, I'll supply the clothes. Oh, you don't have to be from or in Maryland, just willing to travel here. Thanks.

I did a search but there were no recent threads, so's I figured I'd put in my two doubloons on the matter This CD and the man behind it are quite literally amazing, I cannot get enough of nearly every single track Though my favorites by Far are "The Mermaid", "General Taylor", and "Billy Bones" Skip Henderson's MySpace Page That should give you a fairly good taste of his work Information on the man and his crew can be found here Skip's Homepage Purchase, one of the best places anyway can be found here at: DeadMenTellNoTales.com Still as I said, its one of the best albums of pirate music that I've ever had the fortune t'lay me grubby little fingers on :) I r…

I just discovered a band by the name of Rustmonster. Their new album, "Last Voyage of the Black Betty" is entirely pirate themed (and entirely odd.) One of their songs, for example, is a gem that features a pirate reading verbatim from the Young Officer's Sheet Anchor, set to light jazz music. I'll be playing it tonight on Bilgemunky Radio, if anyone wants to check it out!

Ahhh.... more and more fun here. If you had a chance to have a collection of songs or a soundtrack for your or about your pirate persona... what songs would you have on that soundtrack or collection? I'd have more than one disc obviously. One or two that is lyrical songs and one of two that is Instrumental. The lyrical songs: It's My Life by Bon Jovi Blaze of Glory by Bon Jovi Dare by Stan Bush In The Air Tonight by Phil Collins Alcohol by Brad Paisley Sympathy For The Devil by Guns N Roses Surrender by KD Lang Instruments of Destruction by NRG Die Another Day by Madonna Could I Have This Kiss Forever by Enrique Iglesias & Whitney Houston Come Into…

Silkie alluded to this in another thread & I thought it might be worth it's own consideration. What songs & music do we *know* are documentable to the GAoP? A heavy focus on shanties is good, but I'm interested in hearing all period appropriate music. After all sailors weren't completely disconnected from the rest of the culture at the time. I've recently read some of that blue book, Sailors Songs & Sea Shanties (?). There is a lot of information however the arrangement makes it hard to find only the GAoP songs. I have also ordered a copy of Playford's English Dancing Master and have been listening to some of the little tunes from that. I believe it's the…

Yeah, yeah, I know this area is for music. However, my group and I do *not* sing - we do comedy. And hang it all, I am very proud of our first CD, "Nautical Fairy Tales: Vol 1, Tails of the Seas." It has taken us a long time to get it produced and well, you all know how proud a new momma is of her kid ... think of this CD as my "kid." Not exactly a song or shantie, but it should do fine here: It was the night before Christmas. And everyone except a little boy named Hank was asleep. The reason Hank was awake was this: Hank knew what Santa looked like -- or at least what Santa was supposed to look like -- and the man in the middle of the living room was not Santa. Oh, the man did have a long flowing mustache and beard like Santa. But this man’s beard was black and brown and red and not at all white. And it was tangled and bushy and bristly looking, not silky and smooth like Santa’s. And, more importantly, the man was not wearing a red suit with white fur and a big black belt. Or wearing a…

I'm looking forward to this collection of traditional songs of the sea, performed by contemporary folk and alternative artists: http://www.anti.com/catalog.php?id=67 It's due out on August 22. I'm particularly intrigued to see that it has a contribution from the elusive and eccentric chanteuse Mary Margaret O'Hara ... not to mention Nick Cave, Eliza Carthy and Lou Reed! Cheers, Hester

If you have iTunes you can get two collections of great sea songs - they are by Pierce Campbell - simply enter his name in the search engine on iTunes. I got Songs of the Sea and Songs of the Drink and they are terrific. Great versions of some traditional tunes and some originals. Good stuff! Great version of Haul Away Joe and A Pint or So is hilarious. -- Hurricane

Although on hiatus, go to the scurvy bastards website. Hailing from the Bay. One o' the rowdiest pirate bands I've ever seen that wasn't overly punk rock (although to that hell yes). Most tunes are based and arranged from old shanties. And the live fake blood was great. As great as a pair as the words live and fake

Ahoy mates! Clambeard the Pyrate Drummarr here to shout at ye about me band, Sunken Chest. We play Pyrate Rock. That is to say, it's only rock and roll and it's only about pirate and the like. We've just released our first album and we're loud and proud of it. Hit the link at the bottom of the post to go to our myspace page. Ye can hear 2 of the songs and order the record. Join our crew while yer at it! We ain't too interested in "authenticity", whatever that is, unless you mean being authentically piratey in our own style and being true to our rockin' selves. This record is for today's pirate, or anyone else who wants to fork over the doubloons... Cheers an…
