Recently come across some references to a Brown Bess Ship's Carbine. Standard butt, lock and furniture but only a 26 inch barrel. Supposedly these barrels came in both bright and dulled finishes. I've seen some pictures but been unable to determine if this was original, and 18th c modificaion or a modern cutdown. Anybody have any further info? Hawkyns

Anyone have any insight as to what pistol Abe Lincoln is firing in this preview (about 43 seconds in)? I'm thinking it's a Palmetto 1763, but would value some expert testimony :) You can see pix of the Palmetto 1763 here.

Are there people out there that would be interested in a Spanish Dragoon pistol circa 1700? Basically a Spanish version of a French Dragoon (spanish lock etc). I came across the plans to build one and have been wondering if there would be a market. Price would be around $800-$900 as a rough guess.

Not the best picture of the hilt but if'n you look close you can see this be a sea dragon hilt with the cross guard being the beasts out streached neck. The pommel is it's claw that holds a lovely sea-blue Labrodorite spear. It was made org as a Schlager-style but can be rapier or smaller cutlass as well. The grip is custom fit to my grip. FAST and nasty! And here also be too old ones of mine... and... I'll get some pictures taken of my custom work from Lunndgaard Armoury and pist those as well.

I have been putting aside money for two different things at the moment. One is sailing lessons. The other is the purchase of a cannon. I believe that with the resource of the pub I can get some good info on purchasing. I am in the field for a swivel gun. I have been looking around and found a few bronze barrels that look good and some steel barrels. The bronze barrels have no liners and the steel ones need boring. I can do neither of these things and would like to know how pertinant a barrel lining is or if I could get assistance in finishing a steel one.

Ahoy all, At last I happen to unearth a firing flintlock pistol totally by accident. I was hunting around on local for sale places and I found a miroku replica flintlock pistol. It’s a brown bess in mint (and I mean MINT) condition. This is a working gun that has never been fired and still has the box, now here is my question(s); Is this a gun I want to carry around and fire or is this a gun that I need to place over the mantle and continue to use my none firing replica? The box looks to be about 10-20 years old and I can’t find anything regarding the Miroku firearms mfg. co. I don’t want to play with this gun if its worth some money so, can some one smarter than me (and…

On most of the 'Rackham' style pirate flags with the crossed swords is the quillion reversed in relation to the blades edge or curve? Is this an error in the art work or correct in design? Jas. Hook

While perusing pyracy.com I have seen frequent discussions on the appropriateness of turn-off cannon barrel pistols (aka Queen Anne Style) when reenacting. This is especially the case for events the predate Queen Anne's reign (1702-1714). When I started researching early breach loaders it was surprising to find out how far back they go. According to the Oxford Companion to Military History, Leonardo da Vinci illustrated a hackbutt (a type of early, heavy matchlock musket) with an unscrewing, or ‘turn-off’ breech in his Codex Atlanticus of c.1500-10. In 1547 an inventory was made of the weapons owned by King Henry VIII after his death. Of the thirty -three guns described…

Does anybody know were the Matchlock muskets/other firearms popular or even commonly used during Gaop (1690-1730)? Many sources say that they were replaced by the flintlocks in early 17th century onwards and practically disappeared by early 18th century? I know that many buccaneer musket even as early as the 1650s had flintlocks but was the matchlocks still used with flintlocks as late as Gaop at least they were around in large extent 1400-1680s or so..... but what about Gaop were there much Matchlocks around? I believe that only few were used.

I am soon to be involved with some mock combat and playacting involving assorted types of weaponry. Fortunately we have a cannon expert that takes care of all that sort, although that looks enjoyable as well, perhaps someday I will venture there as well. I have already ordered a combat ready replica sword from the well known Baltimore Knife Masters, plus arranged instruction from a Swordmaster to address that part and now am looking into a functional pistol with which the majority of the time will only be used for shooting "blanks." At least until some possible time in the future when I attend a real re-enactment gathering, then maybe more. (Do forgive, as I am obviously…

I just wanted to relate a recent experience my partner and I had traveling. We had travel to Louisana to do some shooting. We ended up staying longer than planned and were wearing the same clothes we had the day before, while shooting, to the airport. In the past, we had traveled in our pirate garb, full of black powder residue from swabbing cannons, and never had an issue. We would stroll past the sniffer dogs and screeners with ease. This time, because my partner had been shooting smoke-less powder, the TSA needed to swab him. They swabbed his hands and swabbed his phone which all came back positive for gun powder. When we explained why we had been in Louisana …

http://theswit.com/stolencannon/ $1,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of this stolen cannon. On the night of November 2, 2011, this historic bronze cannon was stolen during a break-in at Edston Plastic Company in Romulus , Michigan. The cannon belongs to Matt Switlik of Monroe, Michigan. It was temporarily at the Romulus location for use as a model in crafting a simulated clear plastic cannon replica for a museum exhibit. The cannon is an original, Spanish made bronze gun cast in Seville in 1795. The crest of the Spanish king is engraved on the top. Trunnions are marked: 225 p (weight) and markings which translate: Made from copper from Riotinto and M…

While we were at an event this past weekend we were asked to examine a cannon owned by one of the event sponsors. He was interested in firing it and getting training on how to shoot properly and safely. After the event was over he brought the piece out to the gun line so we could do a safety inspection of the gun. The cannon (Sorry, No Pics) was a small signal gun, carriage mounted, iron tube with about a 1.7" bore and about 20" in length. Swivel gun style tube with a cascabel at the breech end. Carriage was nicely produced, and on initial appearance the tube looked to be in good condition. It had never been fired. Once we started to examine the tube though we started t…

Ive been working on a standard that I can use to measure the locks I tune to and here is what Ive come up with, perhaps some people have some better ideas or improvements. The primary problem I have been addressing is that of getting reliable ignition in the pan. Often you can spark a lock again and again but when it comes to igniting the pan is is less than reliable. I have been taking 20 shots in a row without cleaning anything, devide it by the number of trigger pulls and get a percantage that way. I.e. 20 shots but it clicked once 20/21 = .9523 =95%, anything less than 90% I fail, if I have to reprime the pan I also fail it. This should insure that any gun I h…
