I'm in Southern California and I am so jealous of a friend of mine who's tall ship sailing right now. I was wondering if anyone knew how I can get aboard a tall ship for a week or two? Where I can go? I know about the LA Maritime Institute, but I wondered if they'd let me aboard one of their "youth" programs. Perhaps this is a question better suited for the Tall Ships festival next month. :) Oh well, any help is appreciated. Captain Wolfy Wench

Hello all! I thought I'd tell you a bit about my home port, which seems strangely lost back in time, as we still have real sailor's pubs and sailors here- not everything's lost to tourism! Could be our terrifying weather, could be that things take a long time to thaw up here. Duluth, Minnesota, is located at what we call the Nose of the Wolf (Lake Superior looks like a wolf's head on a map). Canal Park, where you can watch the ships come in and out through the canal beneath the Aerial Lift Bridge, has mostly become a tourist mecca. There are still some vestiges of Canal Park's warehouse/whorehouse sailor days (that is now mostly relegated to Superior, WI on the other…

Just makin' a call to all out there about a bit o' trouble I be in. I be new 'round this port, an' I suppose not everyone will know who I am, but I thought it ought to be mentioned what the goings on are here. I'll find myself without without a place to drop anchor for some time. The internet will be unreliable for me, so it's without an idea of when I'll be back that I find myself. If it weren't for the trouble, I'd probably visit more often and talk much more. I be lookin' forward to gettin' to know you all better, whenever that may be.

Just thought I would let everyone know that in my ramblings around town this weekend I stopped by the building for the Pirate Soul museum. They are doing some construction, but I was able to get some pics of the building and the new banners that have been hung there. Here's hoping it's open for PIP! Ifn any o' ye are goin' ter be in the neighborhood o' Rhode Island this Saturday mornin, there be somethin' goin on in Jamestown wot I think I should alert ye to. There's this race, and the rules are that ye have 2 hours te build yer vessel outta non marine materials on the town beach, then launch it and sail it on a downwind course. Tis hysterical! THere even be a prize fer worst example o' naval architecture. While it don't necessarily be piratical, tis all abou' creativity, so's ye can make it as piratical as ye want....

While I am not a member of the SCA or the Cote Du Ciel, they are holding an event in September that I plan to attend. It is The Harvest War on Sept. 17-19, 2004. Any pirates close to Northern Utah wish to join our pirate camp? Arrrr! -William Red Wake

I just got back from a short business trip to Charleston, SC; my first time there, and I was amazed at the amount of 18th century architecture (this coming from a Philadelphia native and New Orleans resident!) I did see a white van with a PIRATES license plate but couldn't talk with the driver! Are there any pirates / pirate activities in the area? Capt. William

Just saw this in a local news monthly publication and checked out the site. http://chesapeakepirates.com/index.html Cost is $18 per person for a 75 minute cruise on the Severn River. Kids get their faces painted and dress up like pirates. They learn about history while in the process. They even get to fire water cannons! I think we may be checking this one out real soon. Anyone else locally interested?

Has anyone ever taken the Jolly Roger cruise in Barbados or Antigua? I didn't think much about it until I saw the plank walking. I'm planning a trip to the Caribbean now! Speaking of Caribbean... a few years ago the family and I were on a cruise in the Bahamas an we visited the Pirate Museum in Nassau. Well worth the visit! Entertaining as well as educational.

Avast ye Scurvey Dogs!!..... Situations may dictate me takin' an early retirement, and puttin' the Royaliste back to Canada-New England in the summer, and then somewhere south each winter. Obviously, I could run to the Carribean, but I'd rather not keep jumpin' the Gulf Stream on a regular basis..So, any 'o you pirates on the Interecoastal Waterway got any ideas??..Got some time, but not much...............

I couldn't take being crew any longer. Besides, the only way I could get a chance to crew was to be promising something more than I was willing to give. So I got me my own boat. Well, me mate bought it for me birthday (not until June, but early is okay). Now it just be a wee small boat, a capri 14.2 mod I. I figure I will learn faster and harder than I would with a keel boat. Me boys want to name it Jaws or Jolly Rancher (younger version of Jolly Roger). I haven't decided yet, so any suggestions will be welcomed.

If I've already addressed this topic on this board, I apologize -- however, it's been on the back of my mind to post a topic for discussion about this for SO LONG that I honestly can't remember at this point if I actually POSTED it at some point or not. (So I suppose it goes without saying that, even if I did post it, I don't remember what anyone said about it. *grins*) I am applying for -- considering applying for, I guess I should say, though it's definitely SERIOUSLY considering -- a study program that involves, at the end of the term, four and a half weeks at sea on a brignatine (plenty of port stops, yes; but still, four weeks). Here's the thing (one thing, anyway)…

I am currently in charge of planning a trip to Orlando for myself and [Mundane] parents/grandparents, and have an interesting question that possibly someone in Orlando may be able to answer. The primary purpose of the trip is to go to Disney World, however one of the things I'm thinking of is to spend one of the evenings there at the Pirate Dinner Theater, and not at Disney World. I've been to some other renaissance/medieval dinner theaters, and some of them frown on guests coming to the venue in garb, which others havn't had a problem. I tried to send them an email which didn't recieve an answer, so I'm going to post here: Does anyone know if the Pirate Dinner Theater…
