As Living History is a key factor for this year's Fort Taylor event and each crew is required to provide demos during the public hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, I thought it would be helpful to begin a thread for listing which crew will be doing what demos. Once we see what crews are willing to do, perhaps we can lump some of them together... for instance instead of having multiple weapons demos for each time frame, perhaps we can pool the buccaneers together with GAoP and 1800s so we can also show the evolution of the weaponry. Just a thought... Navigation Games:Youngblood, Jill Red-Handed,Lily Alexander Weapons:evolution of small arm and cannon: East Coast …

Ok, I'm getting confused. Someone told me (or at least I think they told me) that there will be a shuttle running from downtown Key West where the downtown portion of the events will be going on and Fort Zachary Taylor where the Fort Taylor Pyrate Invasion portion of the events will be taking place. Is this true, or am, I just confused?

For those going to the Fort Fest, it's also time to remember that the Pirates in Paradise Festival along with the Pyrates of the Coast will be hosting the 5th Annual National Walk the Plank Championships. This year's event is over at the Historic Seaport again (where it was last year) aboard the Schooner WOLF. Here's the official info: Thursday, Dec. 3 3-4pm – 5th Annual National Walk the Plank Championships aboard the WOLF with the Pyrates of the Coast at Key West Historic Seaport, foot of William Street. Victims (uhh, contestants) vie for the honor and glory of becoming the 2009 Champion as they dive to their watery graves, pleading for their miserable lives and com…

This list is provided as a roll call throughout the year to gauge the number of attendees who are staying inside and outside of the Fort Zachary Taylor Historical Park at PIP 2010. The attendees will be listed by camp (period or modern) or hotel. Attendees may be a part of any encampment without camping inside the park and interaction during the festival is not limited to camping arrangements. The list merely reflects names and sleeping arrangements of attendees and the list will be updated towards the end of the year with a "confirmed" status for those attendees who have secured their transportation to and from the event. There are many period camps in and outside the f…

With the Fort Taylor Pyrate Invasion but weeks away, it falls to me this year to conduct the solemn business of auctioning a fellow sailor's goods before the mast. Will I endeavor to do perform the necessities of said office with the proper amount of respect, dignity, decorum, gravity, sublimity, stateliness, poise, hauteur, elevation, significance, prestige and appetency? Aye. Will it still degenerate into a raucous, clamorous, stentorian, vehement, fulminating, obstreperous, lusty, bawdy, emphatic, tumultuous, rambunctious, blaring, pealing, cacophony of pyrate revelry...? Aye. Most likely. Still, the cause is just (if not the audience) and the poor lad's goods mu…

Good Lord ... the more I look through this site, the more threads I find branching one off of another - all on important and/or interesting topics. In the view of speed and necessity (the time of PiP grows CLOSE!), I need some advice, guidance, secret info, etc. etc. I will be flying down from Montreal, probably getting there on Tuesday afternoon. I think i have place to lay my head once Fort Taylor begins, but that leaves Tuesday and Wednesday evening. I figure the Admiral Benbow Inn will be full so can someone recommend something? (I'd like to be close to the action, of course .... close enough to "stumble" home Tuesday and Wednesday nights.) Any help will be SO …

Fort Taylor Pyrate Invasion 2010 Changes in the Wind 1. The Friends of Fort Taylor will be running the Fort Taylor Pyrate Invasion this year. I have been asked to be the Event Coordinator on their behalf and will be the person in charge of this year's event. There will be some very familiar faces to help me accomplish creating this festival and I will have a list of these folks and their duties shortly. On behalf of the Friends of Fort Taylor, we wish to thank the Bone Island Buccaneers for their hard work and efforts in past events, but the Friends must take the festival back without a third party contractor, to stay in compliance with the State Park regulations a…

10. To view the processing millipedes, flesh-eating caterpillars and Mae-eating snakes in their natural habitat. 9. To encounter a 20 body pile-up on the battlefield after the cannon crew gets bored with standing around because they can no longer fire their cannon. “Let’s all go play dead so we don’t have to process into the fort! Yay!” 8. To actually be able to stand out on Duvall (one of the most bizarre streets in the world) to the point that people ask you if you’ll pose for a picture with them and maybe buy you a drink for your trouble. 7. With a little prompting from Captain Sterling, this thread is for discussing and finding ways to make all the cool special effects for PIP 08 happen. There are so many talented and creative people here, the more resources we can pull from, the greater the chance the special effects will just blow people away. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate. From the beginning discussions to the actual construction. Looking forward to hearing all of your wonderful ideas and working with you to make this a PIP 08 project we can all be proud of. Ahoy all, since Portside Tom is waylaid in Guatemala, we be needing a few extra men to step into key roles for the Tryal. Julie has asked me to post here to see if anyone wants to volunteer. We're tentatively doing the play twice this time, once on Friday at 10 and then Saturday (though that may shift to Sunday)at 11. If you're available, email Cascabel through the Pub here. Or email me at hurricane@piratesofthecoast.com and I will put you in touch. -- Hurricane

I need all tent footprints as soon as possible for those camping in the Fort. Captains and crewe leaders, if possible can you collect all the information for your crews and forward it along to me either here, via the Pub, or at the provided email addy below. Due to the change in location and the amount of space we have to work with and safety issues, I need to lay out streets and alleys and cook camps. My intent is to make sure crews stay together, but I cannot guarantee this if the information comes in via bits and pieces. I would be much obliged to groups forwarding all their participants' foot prints in one email. (archangeljhsterlingcpt@embarqmail.com) I want to make…

Ahoy all! Just got word. The festival is expanding. The Pirate Village, Thieves’ Market & Pirate Pub at Truman Waterfront is tentatively a go, just waiting for permits. If you know of any vendors who fall outside the guidelines for being in the fort this year, they can now be over at the Truman Annex waterfront. More food and more vendors - just have to be decorated piratical and have the sellers in pirate attire (not period correct). The Tryal of Anne Bonny and Mary Read will be over there this year on the new stage, the Walk the Plank Championships will be aboard the WOLF dockside and the Annex location will also host the Tall Tales contests, a pirate pub and mo…

Well you never know when the wind will change your course in life. Susi and I are moving to Hampton, VA. The basic time frame is the 30th of September but that could change if I get a full time job before hand. I want all of you to know that this is not an easy decision to make but one that must be made for Susi's continued recovery from her health issues. The difference in her mental health as well as the physical health was amazing and was something I had not seen in 2 years. She was happy and the lady I married almost 10 years ago. I told Capt'n Hurricane today when we were over for the 4th of July party.. It was hard. He and I have been together pirating and friends f…

I uploaded a boatload of photos from PiPs past onto the Pyracy.com FaceBook page, but I can only tag the people who are friends with my user ID (NOT people who are fans of the page, JUST my friends. And, no, it doesn't make any sense to me, either.) I also just figured out how to let fans tag photos, so unleash all your knowledge and friend lists on the thing: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?filter=lf#!/album.php?aid=28279&id=152706724740270&ref=mf And if you want to upload photos to the pyracy.com FaceBook page, you should be able to do that as well. Note: All of the photos are from the Surgeon's Journals (PiP SJ '07, '08, '09), which I had permission to pu…

As this PIP rookie is flying in and camping, I'm trying to travel light as possible (with airline baggage restrictions/charges and all). Am I safe assuming I can find a pair of trees for a hammock? me wedge tent will go over the hammock between the trees which also eliminates needed poles. else aye needs to plan a cot or some blowup contraption as me back don't take kindly to the ground. Looking at photos from previous events, looks like plenty o trees. But with the restriction on number of campers, and the area we will be in this year, will this be a problem? Thanks for your opinion here mates... madPete

There is at least two additional private campgrounds on Key West for those who want to camp at an affordable alternative to motels: Boyd's Campground Leo's Camp You'll want to reserve as early as possible to guarantee your spot. (I have stayed there and it's not a bad spot when you split the cost per/person)

Ahoy all! We are currently looking for any performers who will want to perform on stage at the Thieve's Market Stage at the Truman Annex. This is the same stage that will be having the Tall Tales contests and the tryal. We will be filling the stage with other acts with a nautical flair. If you or anyone you know of wants stage time, email me and I will see if we can fit you in. The stage will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We are looking for chantey singers, individuals, bands, storytellers, children's entertainers, etc. Email me at hurricane@piratesofthecoast.com As always, there's no money. But there's plenty of fame and glory to be had.
