There have been many people that have called, posted or emailed wanting information regarding this year's Fort Taylor Pyrate Invasion, and I am well aware of the timing of this statement as being late, but I must announce that I will not be running this year's event. Due to a serious medical issue with Poppa, he has to have surgery. We are not sure of the time frame for it as of yet, but it is likely to be in the next couple of weeks, and we expect a rather lengthy recovery period. Scarlet Jai, who is on the board of the Friends of Fort Taylor will be taking over for me, with Lily to assist as last year. Things with the Fort have been rough, with a new park manager no…

I decided to start this thread for those who attend it. While my participation this year in PIP is still up in the air, this is for those making arrangements to be there can follow updates. First off, I hear through the coconut telegraph that there is a new manager at the fort. Any news on his or her views and inclinations towards the invasion continuing? We all well remember when the past manager took over, there were some questions as to it happening. Now is the time when people start making plans and plane/accommodations reservations.

It has been an eventful trip so far. Mike, Andria and I left for the Salt Lake City International Airport at 6:00 A.M. to catch a 7:15 flight. We arrived and checked in our luggage without incident, but I failed to place my tent stakes in the proper bag and I was forced to leave the security line and check in my carry on luggage. After we settled on the plane we were informed that the flight would be delayed do to mechanical difficulties. This put us in Phoenix an hour and a half late, causing us to miss our connecting flight into Fort Lauderdale. The airline has put us up in an AmeriSuite hotel room and we missed the End of Hurricane Season party. Our luggage is …

Ok, it's begun! If you want to see it, you have to go through the Surgeon's Journal Facebook Fan page. You will find that here. I will be trying to update it with a new chapter at around noon each day. If the link doesn't work, just search for "Pirate Surgeon" on Facebook and you should be able to see it. Enjoy!

I was thinking about Shay's parody songs last year and...well, a bad pun just sprang up in the muddled mass that is my mind: The Most Blunderbuss Time of the Year* I did not come up with any lyrics for it or anything. That exercise is left to the reader. *Sung to the tune of "We Wish You a Merry PiPmas natch.

I believe it was Marathon. It was there one weekend and Key West the next. Cascabel would be one of the experts on that - it was what, 20 years ago now? It's been Key West exclusive 11 years, going on 12. I've been since 2002, so even I'm a relative newcomer, eh Cascabel? I remember when the encampments (the few there were) and the vendors were in the parking lot near the Schooner Bar and behind it on the road. That year Jimmy Buffett was recording License to Chill, Carleton, his bodyguard motioned us to come in (our band was near the big compass near Shrimpboat) but some vendor thought they wanted him so we didn't get to go in. But he did invite us to the impromptu conc…

While most of you are on your way home, a few thoughts have crossed my mind. After being bed bug bitten, sun burnt, completely exhausted beyond all recognition, I feel like the luckiest person alive. I've shared the most incredible weekend with the finest pirates I know. Love and miss you already.

Today we started set up of the PIP site... now for those of you who are heading down it is important to understand there are TWO PARTS to this event. I had folks asking how t…

Anyone traveling down I-95 to Key West in the next few days and needing a rest is invited to stop by on the way. We're in the Melbourne/Palm Bay area and just a few miles off the highway and would welcome the company. There's a few extra rooms to spread out you sleeping gear if needed too. We'll be heading out ourselves early Thursday morning to arrive at the Fort hopefully around noon. It's a little over 320 miles and should be close to a six hour drive depending on traffic.

As if the non-appearance of my hat was not enough ... seems gunner has had a major change in plans and I no longer have a place to throw my drunken carcass when I can stand no longer, late into the night. I messaged Fayma (at Gunner's recommendation), butI fear she may be a-wenchin' already and not hear of my plight! Any recommendations?
