I thought some of you might enjoy the offerings from this antique house. They offer some excellent maritime antiques, though most if not all of it is later than our period focus. http://www.campaignfurniture.com/ The latest exhibit has a motor cycle and a sea chest that I want. http://www.campaignfurniture.com/exhpdfs/ClarkeSchotten2011%20v1.pdf

A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity. John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to 'clean up' the bird's vocabulary. Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back. John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even more rude. John, in desperation, threw up his hand, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer. For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screa…

We have lost a good Pirate.. It is with great sadness that I tell you that Bad Jack, Jim Potkey the lead singer for “Pirates of the Black Swan” passed away yesterday morning from what they believe was a blood clot. Kate says that the stress of losing the house and all their pets to fire was most likely too much. She is looking for help from any local black Powder folks since his wish was to have his ashes shot from a cannon. If anyone has a contact, please email me off list and I will get you in touch with the family. Such grand music that will now not be heard. Thanks mates,

I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about the Flyin Pirate event in NC April 9 & 10? From what I have researched it's a run event and I entered the 1/2 marathon on the 10th but that's about all I know. I will wear a little pirate garb, well progably just a pirate for hire ball cap because running 13.1 miles in pirate garb would be bordering on the nigh in possible.

I name ALL my cars. For some reason, I've had a HARD time naming my Scion xB . . . I've gone through dozens of names and none stick. After playing with several themes, I'm going full-bore pirate sloop. I'm detailing it here: http://www.newscionxb.com/123-2nd-gen-scion-xb-talk/8044-project-sloop.html As ya'll are more "in-tune" with pirates and pirate history than most, so I'll ask here. I am finally deciding between KwikSilver and Rover as the vehicle name (as mentioned in another thread). -Rover is a direct and historical reference to what pirates of the GAoP oft referenced themselves as (rovers or sea rovers), plus I "rove" around a lot and LOVE driving. It was al…

This sort of goes hand-in-hand with the Pirate Bar Necessities topic however I want to keep the two topics separate. As we get closer and closer to completion on my pirate bar it has become apparent that the room itself is quite plain and that it will be the decorations and accents that will give the room "life". Which leads me to my dart board cabinet: As you can see the case itself is pretty plain. And since 90% of the room is wood toned it sort of gets lost. So we're trying to brainstorm ways to liven it up a bit. A few ideas we have are making a smaller version of my 3D wood Jolly Roger and just splitting it in so the doors can open. Or I can make the s…

I am offering each of you a March amulet, according to the tradition in my country, to bring you good luck, happiness, love, good health and everything else you wish. And I guess this board itself needs a March amulet together with my love… HAPPY SPRINGTIME TO YOU ALL! Valentine's Day has not been celebrated in Romania until imported together with Halloween and other aspects of UK/US culture, but we have a local traditional equivalent of St. Valentine's Day, almost forgotten except some country regions. Called Dragobete (a kind of local Cupid elf), it was traditionally celebrated by the 24th of February by young people. Individuals at country would gather to pick s…

Here's what I've been up to lately... painting WWI airplane miniatures and playing a game called Wings of War! That's a Fokker Dr.I that I built for my wife to paint and use in the game. Hopefully she won't draw the explosion card the first time she uses it. Cheerio!

For those that remember, we rescued a couple of animals over the course of the past three/four years. One was a "wild horse that nobody could do anything with.": His first few days at our house: Today: This is Choco going on six now. He's supposed to be MY horse, but the little lady has stolen him away. Bo

Well, my dear sweet much-better half is diving into the world of Cowboy Mounted Action Shooting. Gonna make these horses earn their oats as it were. Been getting rid of stuff right and left to help me get her going. Found one .45 Colt repro so far that I was able to trade for, got my old mentor looking for another (gotta have two for the competition). I won't be doing pyrate anymore, but I still like the research and sharing information, and as long as it is necessary for me to be hooked-up to the net, I'll be in and out when I can, between lesson planning, homework for the University, lesson planning, lesson planning, and more lesson planning. When I find something w…

A moment of silence, if you will. Ron Patterson, creator of the beloved Renaissance Faire, passed away on Jan. 14, 2011 at 80. This man was one of the few who were left from the original group that began the very format I (and others) use for the renfest or renfaire. He is the one who kept it alive. He's an incredible man and a moment of prayer and best wishes to his children (who continue to keep his company alive) would be appreciated. for more you can read the article on him here: http://sanrafael.patch.com/articles/creator-of-renaissance-faire-dies-at-80 Thank you.

Vallejo pirate faire (near San Fransico, California) great event with a variety of garb to see its a small pirate faire in space but alot of public traffic, free admission and free parking, great for a day or weekend visit. alafia rendezvous(Homeland, Florida) is another huge event with loads of trad…

What was your favorite toy as a kid? What happened to it? Mine was the 1978 Death Star and I still have the bits and pieces of it. (Actually, it's not in that bad of shape - I always put it back in the box when I was done playing with it.)

I have a question for the regular Surgeon's Journal readers. Since the Journals are so long, do you prefer them to be posted: -one chapter at a time as I finish them or -in their entirety. I am not posting this as a poll because I'd appreciate your comments/suggestions. Thanks!

type in a few lines from a movie... and others try to guess what movie! ok, I'll start... these are two quotes from a movie, from two different scenes... "I'll come 'round sometime and get that squeak out of your door." "I think we can't go around measuring our goodness by what we don't do - by what we deny ourselves, what we resist and who we exclude. I think we've got to measure goodness by what we embrace, what we create and who we include."
