Continuing the effort to rebuild the Beyond Pyracy forum after the great thread clean out of 2005, I am restarting this thread. My current avatar is a group of monkeys examining a bunch of hooks and latches on a wall. It seems monkeys enjoy exteral stimulation for its own sake, according to my Psychology book. (Actually, I just thought the picture was funny.) And here is my Mission ID's current (and probably forever more) avatar: Now, I used to have a list of all my/Mission's avatars and what they meant, but that was long ago and far away. Here are the pics, but you'll have to guess what they mean for now. If there's a hue and cry for it, maybe I'll explain them (a…

I have now been awake for 37 hours. Dizzy, nauseous, head, legs, back, and neck are killing me. Cannot take pain kilers, they only make me puke, cannot take muscle relaxers, they only make me more nauseous, cannot take any more ibuprofen or asprin because my stomach acid is all riled up. DAMN DAMN DAMN!!! Well, in a few more days we'll be off-line again, so if I don't get to chat with any of ya'll, been good to be here. Glad to have gotten to know so many of you even though we never met. I suppose I'll be alright, but this time something tells me I'd better get ready to go. I hope everyone has a great life and enjoys the things we all take for granted. If I don't …

What clued you in to the existence of the pub? In my case, it was Ed Foxe who was on another forum with me and recommended that I check this place out. What drew you into sailing about these waters?

I haven't posted much in the Pub lately (well I do check in almost daily, just to see what's going on......)... But that is because I've been getting ready to go to Burning Man again this year..... This will be my fourth burn. I've posted about going to Burning Man before in Airship Pyrates, but this year I won't be going Steampunk, so it dosen't fit there anymore. This year Martie (some of you may remember her at PiP last year) and I are making a Barbaric Splendor Camp.... (kind of a mix of Celtic, Sythain and Mongolain with a bit of Conanish stuff tossed in for color....total fantacy, but it looks cool...) 20 Days.....and I still have a buncha stuff to finish.... h…

I've seen (and enjoyed) the Sharpe's, Horatio Hornblower and Brother Cadfael series. What else is there out there like those?

No, I don't feel that way... But apparently the NPS does (National Park Service). Saw this posted on Frontier folk and though it might be worth sharing here for discussion as well. This policy has always been in place (well at least for longer than I have been re-enacting), but this is the first time that policy has gone from just being there (and inconvenient) to a publicized item of negative propaganda. I've long been wary of the NPS and have generally avoided having anything to do with them, but this video has made the line in the sand a down right battle line for me.

Link here: http://chicagoist.co...owed_to_sue.php To sum up: in 2006, two Americans were working in Iraq for an FBI investigation of a security company suspected of corruption. They were seized and held by U.S. forces, during which time they say they were kept in freezing cold cells, deprived of sleep for days on end, deliberately slammed into walls, and threatened constantly with additional violence. They are suing the former Secretary of Defense among others. A federal court has ruled that they are allowed to sue, disagreeing with the government's argument that no one working for the U.S. government can be sued for anything that happens in a war zone. This is still…

It's not surprising, since I live so close to the water, that the local streets are named accordingly. The neighborhood abounds with nautical-sounding streets, but a couple have been given names that are a wee bit more creative: So, does anyone else have any interesting street names near them?

Ahoy Mates, After a short (ok it was sort of long) hiatus due to the birth of our first little crew member we are back and ready to do some honest Piratin'. First thing's first we must get our ship sea-worthy. I don't believe I've mentioned this yet on these boards but for the past 2 years we've been remodeling out not-so-finished basement into a Pirate-themed living area and bar. The project was tentatively "completed" last year. I say tentatively because last week while sitting around the bar (which I was less then happy with) a crewman mentioned an idea he had for building a better bar. One more suited towards true pirate bashes. A few (camera phone) pics so yo…

Found an official site of Panama Viejo, or Old Panama...sadly, it's all in Spanish, but there's lots of pictures and photos, including finds from excavations in the city. These are the goodies that Morgan and the boys would have seen and handled whikle they stayed in town as...guests. http://panamaviejo.org/catalogotags/index.php?q=coleccion And the home page of the site: http://www.panamaviejo.org/ I've often had the idle notion of gathering together a few like minded fellows and recreating Morgan's March, from Ft. San Lorenzo, along the Chagres, to Panama Viejo, Then I decided to take a look to see what impact the Canal might have had on such a route. Let's just …

Have you seen one too many "Sparrow" at the local Ren Fest? How about the "Hot Topic" pirate wench with the spiked heel boots? Or the cheap dollar store pirate with the plastic hat and boot covers? Dread the pirate who bought the shirt, hat, and cutlass to match his jeans and white high tops? Now we all love pirates of all types but let's face it... some times you just want to give these blokes a few pointers.

Ok, there is no 'right' answer to this question, and I'm not doing a survey, it's just idle curiosity, as I said. What does the year 1916 signify to you? I'll explain why I'm asking later.

Ah, the classics...writ large in the original tongue. Brings a tear to my eye. Or as me great, great, great, great, near-great, great, great, great, great, well, pretty-darned-close-to-being-great, great, great, great, great, all-right,-but-not-quite-great, great, great, great, swell, great, grate, great, grating, great-grandpappy always used to say, "ĦŦŃŁŽƏŴǔǑǍΈΐΏ ΓΩΨΧΦΣڌڇ۩۩!" "Oh freddled gruntbuggly, Thy micturations are to me As plurdled gabbleblotchits On a lurgid bee. Groop, I implore thee, my foonting turlingdromes And hooptiously drangle me With crinkly bindlewurdles, Or I will rend thee in the gobberwarts with my blurglecruncheon, See if I don't!"

OK, my mother and sister got me a Kindle book for my graduation. I am a technology challenged hillbilly. I figured out enough about computers to get me through college, but still ain't too bright. With my sisters help we got it registered and I ordered my first book, (Buccanneers of America of course!), but I didn't pay attention to the delivery system and bought the one that is automatically delivered through Wi-fi. I'm in the sticks and don't have a wireless connection. So does this mean that when I get to a Wi-fi area my book will automatically load, or do I need to do something else. I tried reading the directions and all but I'm still not clear on this part. T…

Right for those of you with an Android phone and nostalgic longing for years gone by this is a great free game. It's got 5 out of 5 stars in the Android market and although a little short is definitely a throw back to choose your own books and games of the past.

Since it was found in Austria, it's hardly piratical, but it *is* treasure (gold...GOLD...**GOLD**!!!), and it was buried, so here's the news story (I wonder if he's any relation...): Austrian Man Digs Up $150,000 in Buried Treasure in Backyard Published May 02, 2011 | Associated Press A trove of medieval jewelry and other precious objects found by a man working in his backyard includes pieces made for a royal court and may be worth as much as 100,000 euros ($150,000) government experts said Monday. The officials from Austria's department of national antiquities and the Academy of Sciences said they were only at the beginning of their investigation into the provenanc…
