I would attempt to make them but I have other more pressing projects to attend to.I know there are links elsewhere on the pub and will search when I have time and the inkling. Until then, does anyone have any warnings against them? Problem with rope sandals is finding ones actually made out of natural fiber... especially hemp... most of the stuff I've come across are either just plain wrong style wise or nylon. Another plus for good leather buckle shoes... no they don't keep yer feet dry, but they will manage getting wet and if you let them dry on yer feet... man perfect fit! I would hate to see Silkie's feet suffer for the sake of a style that would still be out of period correctness. Safety is a concern, at least from my personal experience. The question posed originally, was in regards to safety and comfort. Again, as Silkie is a part of the Archangel crew, I would hate for her to spend money on something that won't get her into trouble at PiP but very well may get her banned from the field at some of the events we attend. The problem with Jarnagin, they sound good but the pictures they show are for the later style Rev. War shoes... when I asked them to send me one I never heard back... been over a year now... As to Fugawee Either the Franklin or the Concord comes pretty close until someone starts making the proper item in an affordable price range. For them that have small feet.. and can fit in the larger sizes of the Ladies (aye I said Ladies) Debbie shoe... you have the tongue and the higher heel if that is the look ye want... I think they said they go up to a 12... If I recall correctly, check out GOF's site, there are some smaller heels in his picture collection of originals..as well as the Town Cries of London print series for more low heels, although not all... a lot of prints from the time show very high heels even for men... I've often thought about the higher heels for an impression, but I'm not ready to go that high class just yet. With them fancy foot things, I might just have to get a wig. Patrick Hand Posted July 2, 2007 Share Posted July 2, 2007 I've been keeping busy lately..... I bought a Blunderbuss from callenish gunner, and made a few changes to it.... Now I can play in the battle this year.... I re-finished the stock... carved initials into the butt, added a button and swivel for a sling, and ground off the ring around the muzzle... the butt... And the front swivel, and the Muzzle.... Kinda funny, I liked the ring around the muzzle, but I didn't want my buss to look like everyone elses....so I hadda change it...... For my Birthday, Tales of The Seven Seas gave me a gift certificate... so I bought some hemp canvas. I still have to make another pair, and then three pairs of drawers outta linen..... and a close-up of the pocket and fly... It was kinda interesting watching Blaze's buss grow rust right befor our eyes last year...... But I wanna make a mixture of linseed oil and beeswax for the stock. I figure it won't be quite as shinny as just lineseed oil.... I also want to take the shine off the lock, and age the brass. Granted the Sea Rover's Practice says rust was a major battle but the author also states that folks were expected to keep their arms fit for service: "free of rust, well-oiled, and in the case of edged weapons, "bright" as well as sharp, both edge and point.". page, 86 If your life depended on the reliability of your weapons...just how many would be in horrible shape or badly rusted? Patrick Hand Posted July 4, 2007 Share Posted July 4, 2007 I have a question about allowing weapons to "age" Basicaly just the normal wear of a well taken care of weapon.... a few dings in the stock, the finish slightly worn around the wrist and foreslock. The brass slightly tarnished, but not crusty.....The metal would be clean and bright not rusty, but also not mirror shinny as if it was just buffed by a modern power tool.... Hey Patrick, I've been working on putting together a sword belt similar to this, based on one of the line drawings from "Swords and Blades of the American Revolution", and I was wondering about how you stitched yours. It looks like you used saddle stitching, but the peice of leather for the frog is only sewn at the bottom, my questions is, how far up does the leather peice for the frog go up on the inside of the belt?
