  1. It would be me pleasure Miss Merry! I've a'ready warned the others that me dancin 'as been compared to a one legged hippo, but if yer willin ta risk it, then let fly the tunes! And after, it would be me honor ta regail a tale or two if ye pleases. Just ask and I'll answer with all honesty Mum. By th' by... Where in the middle country do ye hail from? Capt. Bo
  2. OK, I tried this in "Beyond Piracy" and had no luck, so maybe I can get some help from you gents here. I have an old C.V.A. Blunderbuss kit gun that I've been trying for years to decide what to do with. It's a brass barreled 12 ga., and is together and working. It's also very WRONG as far as the lock, stock and furniture go. My delima is... do I re-work the stock, change lock and furniture, or go ahead and re-build around the barrel? It needs to be done, I just cannot decide whether to desroy the original components, or keep them in case for "collector value", (if there ever is any on a CVA). Perhaps someone can help sway my decision one way or the other. I wouldn't have chosen a blunderbuss on my own, but this was a gift a long time back, and as long as I have it , it may as well be correct in it's appearance . HEEEELP!!! Capt. Bo
  3. Aye now...ain't yer cutlass a sharp 'un at that! (coffer, coffer- hahaha). Capt. Bo
  4. I married Blondiewench TWICE within three months, so I been three times hitched!
  5. Quite a bit different than the "shellback" initiation rites as was done when we "crossed over". Neptune presides over this one on board U.S. navy vessels, but memory escapes me as to the origin for the ceremonies. One of the more memorable rites was havin to pluck a cherry from the navel of an over-weight Bos'ns Mate,( with yer TEETH!), and costumes were allowed within reason. If you've never seen a lot of ugly men dressed as mermaids... consider yourselves fortunate! Capt. Bo
  6. Greetins mate, I still be new 'ere meself, but the way things is, is ya gots ta buy a round fer the crew 'ereabouts. Welcome in and have a grand time of it! Capt. Bo
  7. Does any one have any info on the Blaqck Pearl that is sailing around the world? My kids are big fans of POTC and if the ship is going to hit any ports here, I'd like to take them. My sister works for Disney Adventure Magazine, where I first heard of this, but cannot find any schedule of events on her. Thanx! Capt Bo
  8. Greetins Miss Silkie, Grand days it be that so many folks come wanderin in and especially so many new ladies ta grace the room 'ere in the pub! It be gettin much 'arder ta behave in the presence of so much freindly beauty as is in this place... but Blondiewench be keepin me in check fer certain :) . Be takin care lass...Capt. Bo
  9. Greetins Miss Scarlet, So good ta be makin yer aquaintence. Now step up an 'ave yer pleasure on me coin if ye please! Dancin? I've been told that it's a hangin offence fer this child ta be singin or dancin as me voice is worse than a dyin gull an me step worse than a one legged hippo! We'll be lookin into a "dummy" fer Blondiewench ta use fer postin 'ere today. Be takin care now, as I must make a ride ta visit the Gov'nor. Me coffer is a gettin dry. Capt. Bo
  10. I don't need to see the ocean mate. I've been on both A&P, plus the Gulf of Mexico AND the Persian back when Khadaffi was bein a dick. Just good timin an sharin is what does me the most good! Whatever ya got'll be good enough! I'm more into the "modern" traditional stuff-(ie laminate bows)- than the self bows, but I do have a couple of eastern woodland style long bows and one plains style "horse bow". They just don't hit hard enough for me to have confidence in a quick kill. I must confess that my favorite is my vintage Fred Bear Super Grizzly, 55# @ 28", made ca 1974, and STILL knockin 'em dead! Capt. Bo
  11. No need fer appologies Lass...I'd wonder more if ye didn't take care! :) I'm talkin ta me she mate Blondie at this very minute about settin up shop 'ere. She be a west coast native 'erself, transplanted in "Misery" wi' the likes 'o me.(poor lass!) We're a family affair at the re-enactments and we're kinda shut out of things here in the Ozarks. Ready to come out and play we are! Capt Bo 'ave fun wi' me for chrissake, e says to me. Alrighty then. What's this about cherry shots I be hearin? Or better yet, 'ave a round on me! Blondiewench
  12. All right.... NOW ya done it! I've been goin through my gun stuff and catalogs all day! Me she mate is already givin me the queer looks of a woman that knows a storm be brewin. She says I already have too much plunder...( a 12x16 shed in the back that has nothin but "rendevous gear" inside.), and now here I go on another path. Oh well, she survived the others, she'll make it through this one I'd reckon. I've already committed to take my oldest on an elk hunt in '07, so maybe I t will work out that we will already be in the neighborhood. Haven't got any place lined up for the hunt yet, so maybe I'll take that into consideration as well. We're goin for the archery, as we shoot "traditional" equipment . Keep me posted and let us know what you need from this end. If nothin else, I could forge up some prizes for a shoot. Later....Capt. Bo
  13. Depends alot on where you are and where the pallets are made. I live in the Missouri Ozarks where oak of almost every description is every where. Hickory is getting harder to find due to over-harvest for BBQ wood and other things. Nearly every sawmill hereabouts cuts RR ties and builds pallets out of oak. We also have a never ending supply of ROCKS if anyone needs them...come on over and bring a big truck! But the hickory will work just as well if not better than oak. Ash is good too. Capt. Bo
  14. Mr. Hand, If you get into the forge work, tent stakes are the BEST first project you could possibly choose. Wish I was closer, as I've made literally thousands of them in many different styles over the years. As wooden stakes are definately lighter, they have their shortcomings in being fragile after taking several beatings. Made from seasoned oak pallet boards, they are fairly strong and durable. Take some copper plumbing pipe cut into 1" peices and drive/fit them down onto the tops to prevent splitting, and they will endure alot of usage. This will be my next project as well, I need to "lighten up" my pack-in gear too. (make sure the pipe doesn't extend into the "byte" of the stake so it doesn't cut into the ropes/loops.) Capt. Bo
  15. Does this mean that Elvis really IS dead!?! ..... Yippee! Capt. Bo
  16. Glad to see this topic as I'll be needin to re-gear myself. I'll most likley keep to my favorite, which is a military wedge with a bell back. I like havin the extra storage space. If it became a question at an event, one could always state that a military tent could have been "plundered" from a ship that was carrying military stores. Besides the "circus tent" that is necessary for when the whole five of us are camping, I have a 10ft fly which I added door flaps to, and a 12x12 dining fly that is very versatile in the number of ways it can be set up. The fly w/doors is often our "ice box" for hiding the modern gear. I tell the curious publik that it's the "dog house". Not pyrate just now, but lookin for more info too. Capt. Bo
  17. Blackfoot, We were having that problem Sat., but it was definitely with our server. Everything was that way and it bumped us off several times, and would take several attempts to re-connect. We're on dial up which doesn't help either. Maybe I caused an infection being so close to Ok.! Hope it gets resolved soon. Hey... I had the steel and chrome steed out this weekend gettin ready to terrorize the highways again! When yer ready fer that rum, let me know. Always lookin for an excuse and a destination! Capt. Bo
  18. Haze gray and underway! If it gets too bad...there's always "overboard on mid-watch". :) Thanx for your bein there shipmate! Good to know there's able bodied seamen protecting our liberties! I was an HT '83-'87. Give 'em hell! Capt. Bo
  19. Cap'n Bob... Try your nearest metal fabrication shop. Most of them scrap tons of shear "drops" and many will be willing to let you sort trough the scrap bin. I suggest no thicker than 12-14 guage for your project, as this can easily be bent over a bench vise or wok bench edge. Taking a ball peen hammer of medium to large size and hammering "pings" on the surface will imitate the forged look quite nicely. Most hardware stores carry strap steel, but it is highly expensive. Drills and hand filing, as well as hacksaw and elbow grease... and voila! Once you get the banding cut and shaped, put the pieces in the oven at 450 for about 4 hours prior to the final installation. This will both age and temper the steel. Good luck!.... Capt. Bo
  20. "64 you say? Works for me! I was three so it would become part of my own "era" of maritime history. Hey... We gotta have somethin to tell the grand-kids! As for the original text of the thread, I'm also old school "biker", but I don't wear my earring at the publik events as it isn't proper, especially for a land lubber. The Half beard is bad enough, but I ain't shavin! Gotta have some way of filterin the critters outta my soup! The more I'm around here, the more I feel like it's time to explore yet another area of history. My She Mate is gonna have a fit when I start building a new kit and start attending a different set of events... But I did warn her in advance of the nuptuals. Capt. Bo
  21. Thanx Foxe! I served four in the US Navy, and when we crossed the Equator it was quite a celebration, and first timers-Pollywogs- were "initiated" to become "Shellbacks". I won't go into the gory details of initiation rites, but earrings were certainly NOT a prize at the end! Again, thanx for the input...Bo
  22. OK...I'll try again. The last attempt to post didn't come up. Plenty of time for the planning, keep me informed and what can I do from out here in the middle? I'll be there if I don't die first! Remember...I'm a Rev War land locker here considering doing some crossover. I'll be authentic or I won't do it of course. I do earlier back to 1750 too, but I'm mostly geared for the 1760-1780 as far as accuracy in the period goes. I'll be the first to say that I would be a better Highwayman than buccaneer, but I'm there with ye! Capt. Bo
  23. This is just abit away from the subject, but can anyone tell me when it became "tradition" to "earn" the wearing of an earring after sailing 'round the horn?( Cape Horn ) Is this an old sailors "tradition" or is it more of a modern "fad" thing? Capt. Bo
  24. We... the voices in my head... held a conference and decided she's definitely one of US!!! :) ( ...is that you Sybil? Is this me?) Capt. Bo.....I think!?!
  25. Saw the WTF and thought somone was signalin for assistance! What kinda boat ye're on?... and if'n yer Cap'n don't take care to proper discipline, I'm sure there's a plenty here to make up the difference! Capt. Bo of the White Trash Fur co.
