Here's what I've been up to lately... painting WWI airplane miniatures and playing a game called Wings of War! That's a Fokker Dr.I that I built for my wife to paint and use in the game. Hopefully she won't draw the explosion card the first time she uses it. Cheerio!

Libra Daily extended (by Astrology.com) If you spend the morning putting out forest fires, rest assured that you will spend the afternoon basking in a warm, healthy glow. You've worked hard, and now you're starting to see the promise of a new beginning. That's how Mother Nature works sometimes, you know: There's a big forest fire to clear the way for a new generation of saplings.

Time Team America debuts Weds July 8 at 8.00 pm with a look at Roanoke Island and Fort Ralegh. Time Team America is the long awaited (by me, anyway) version of Time Team, a long running and highly popular show in Britain (Channel 4) dealing with archaeology. Since I'm familiar with the original Time Team, it'll be interesting to compare the two versions. You can see a bit more info here---> http://www.pbs.org/opb/timeteam/ but for me, it's going to be a Must Watch.

I found this INCREDIBLE stop-motion animation short today at a site called Atom Films, where up & coming filmmakers can host their work. I only found it as my brother is putting something up there and I came across this while looking for his. Anyone with broadband and an interest in all things 17th century owe it to themselves to check out this film: The Periwig-Maker It's about a wig maker who is stuck in his shop during the Great Plague in 1665. He forms this quirky non-verbal relationship with a girl trapped in her home across the street. The narration is by Kenneth Branaugh, and the quality of the set, characters, and especially lighting all create one of the …

Highwaymen = Dry Land Pirates! I'm a big fan of the movie Plunkett & Macleane, starring Jonny Lee Miller & Robert Carlyle. So, I've made a fan video using clips from the movie, and set it to one of my all-time favourite songs, "Stand & Deliver" by Adam & the Ants. Here's the link to watch it on You Tube: Plunkett & Macleane: "Stand & Deliver!" Warning: Rated PG for a simulated sex scene and one muffled naughty word. Cheers, Hester (a.k.a. "Pyrate Anny")

A MAYONNAISE JAR AND 2 CUPS OF COFFEE When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee. A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the j…

I am offering each of you a March amulet, according to the tradition in my country, to bring you good luck, happiness, love, good health and everything else you wish. And I guess this board itself needs a March amulet together with my love… HAPPY SPRINGTIME TO YOU ALL! Valentine's Day has not been celebrated in Romania until imported together with Halloween and other aspects of UK/US culture, but we have a local traditional equivalent of St. Valentine's Day, almost forgotten except some country regions. Called Dragobete (a kind of local Cupid elf), it was traditionally celebrated by the 24th of February by young people. Individuals at country would gather to pick s…

So, I'm watching AstroSpies tonight on PBS. And lo and behold is my wife's uncle, Uncle Al, who I see at all the family gatherings. All I knew is he was one of the original Space Cowboys (like in the movie). Wrong! He was a super cool space spy in training. The secret lives of other family members... Check this out! http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/astrospies/profiles.html He's Al Crews... -- Hurricane

Thought with the new year travel season coming some of us may be making plans for a vaca.. My two best trips were Bermuda and Paris. Bermuda was a dream. I had been all through the Carribean, but this island was just right. Mainly because tourism is so low down on their "economically importat" list. Plus it was the first real trip away I took with a guy in a long time and everything was so new. I wanted to retire there.Stayed in a small expensive couples only all inclusive..drank all their baileys, slept through breakfast and had afternoon tea instead. The beach was outstanding and we put 225 miles on the scooter for two that came with the room. That's a lot on such a s…

Has anyone watched this. I think it's great except for how horrible the men can be about women. But I love the old stuff I remember from back then, the clothes, the old cig lighters, the cars, the homes, the decorations, the booze, the cigs, the typewriters etc. Pretty controversal show, but I like it so far.

I'm back home and after having an bug (had fevers on the way home and last night). Anyways, I wanted to publicly than the wonderful and knowledgeable staff and rangers at the Charles Towne Landing historic site (where Charleston, SC started before moving across the Ashley River to Oyster Point). While there, I had the opportunity to: - Show people around the Adventure, a reproduction of a 1670s trading ketch. - Sleep on said Adventure. - Fire a reproduction Saker, as part of a battery of 2 sakers and 2 demi-culverns. We used period-correct commands too. - Hang out w/ a bunch of cool and neat reenactors from Florida and Maryland (St Mary's) at a period camp. For t…

(apparently I can't copy and paste this without the numbers... anyway, funny/stupid jokes about pirates if you find yourself bored and I mean REALLY bored, it's a long list. Found these as I search for more pyrate stupidity. Cheers) A pirate does not ask for directions. He relies only on his gut feeling, a compass, or a treasure map. Parrots are the preferred pirate companion. Monkeys are an acceptable substitute, unless they fling their feces at people. Then they are an awesome substitute. When fishing, a pirate uses either a sword, a knife, or his bare hands. Use of a hook is only acceptable in the event the pirate is missing a hand. Pirates shal…

Nothing piratical. Yet. Refinancing, so I spent a couple days cleaning. Decided I didn't need... MERP Mirkwood... Middle Earth Roleplaying Game, 2nd edition, Mirkwood supplement. If you are a Tolkien fan, books like these are worth the price just for the maps! And... British WWII Sergeant chevrons... I seriously doubt I'll be doing WWII Brit again. I have a full kit. I figured I start ditching it piecemeal.

Ok so I'm workin the blackberry which makes copy and paste difficult hence I'll just tell you where I found this story. M.economist.com then go into sci. and tech. The title is climate change and warfare cool heads or heated conflicts? What grabed me was the solutions for the problem and there simularity to Adam Smith's thoughts in The Wealth of Nations which I'm slowly reading as an ebook on my BB. This guy makes Nostradomas look like a chump. Reganomics, globalazation, the rise of China (kinda) its all there and I'm only a short way in. Once again sorry for the issues due to my BB

Ahoy! I, a life long pirate fan and enthusiast for all things fantasy and historical, wrote a novella about the golden age of piracy. It was a dream I have had since a long time, and I began by researching, researching, and researching some more. I didnt want to repeat the clichees and tropes of usual pirate lore. Instead I wanted to go for a more realistic, grounded picture, albeit one with fantasy elements. If that speaks to you, and you would like to see more pirate literature, check it out!
