Tartan Jack Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 If you read Captain Twill, I am making a plastic model of a pirate ship. It will end up at 1/48 scale (1/4"=1'). I need a crew for its deck. They NEED to be about 1.25-1.5 (1 1/4 to 1 1/2) inches tall (scale 5-6 feet). That is 40mm for you wargame folks. I also need them to be fairly cheap. I want to get 30-40 of them for the upper deck. I can repaint even cheap solid color plastic ones. The HEIGHT is my main concern (beside LOOKING like 18th C. sailors-> No green army men please!). Do you know where I can get them? -John "Tartan Jack" Wages, of South Carolina
Capn_Enigma Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 There are plenty of 1/48 scale figures available that can be converted into crew members. "The floggings will continue until morale improves!"
Tartan Jack Posted February 11, 2007 Author Posted February 11, 2007 BUT, where to get cheap ones . . . I know PLENTY of metal ones and "train" ones that are 5 for $10-15 (I would need 6-8 packs, THEN convert-> $60-$120). Anyone know of a source for CHEAP ones? -John "Tartan Jack" Wages, of South Carolina
Ol Man From the Sea Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 Go to where you get the train ones and ask them about "aluminite" casting kits. or try here Modify a pack of the expensive figures and use them as masters to cast as many as you need.

Thank, I was actually thinking of doing that to cast a cannon I picked up somewhere (makes excellent scale 6 pounder) and may try some of the more generic figures. Now, to see how the alumilte compares in bang-for-buck to the other ones I got my hands on now. I was hoping to find some "army man" cheap ones, like the baseball players I am using for my Ponce Park ballfield and the football players I am using for my Falcons/Panthers game model. Oh well, these will look better anyways, only I'll be spending more "crewing" my ship than I spent on the kit itself. -John "Tartan Jack" Wages, of South Carolina
