Red Cat Jenny
Well it appears there are more than a few of us who burn past the midnight oil..well past...Aye the insomniacs unite! To fit the bill - how many of the following apply? 1) Routinely stay up waay past 1? (1..scoff..amatuers) 2)Think nothing of some wildly inappropriate snack at 3 am? 3) Or before creeping into bed.. just before the sky lights up signaling you that you stoically shirked sleep, do you swear "tomorrow night I'll sleep" 4) Does the constant math of .."If I go to bed at 2 I'll get x hours of sleep ..which steadily melts into well, ok now it's a quarter after, so if I go to bed at X instead, I'll get x hours of sleep. Which dissolves into a short nap followed by once again swearing "tomorrow night I'll sleep" 5) Do you you have a uniform of some unmatched comfortable clothes, a fuzzy robe and perhaps matching socks, perhaps not? 6) Do you hear from friends, family "don't you sleep?" "What do you do all night?"Followed by your blank stare, a sly grin and a search for a cup of coffee..let' em guess..... 7) Are you uber familiar with the sounds only heard at night..the fridge which seems to get louder as the minutes go by, the heat coming up, the house settling, cats fighting outside..your increasing yawns.. 8) Feel oddly like kin to those wierd infomercial people? 9) Feel like a bull in a china shop as every step you take to the loo etc sounds like a herd of cattle in the night no matter how hard you try to be quiet? 10) Have strange revelations? "Gee I never realized the toilet paper, fridge door, my computer fan was so loud? 11) Have people you see (you know..those bleary shadows that think nothing of bugging you at say the ungodly hour of 10:30) who ask why your tv is set to closed captioning when your hearing is just fine? Well I'm sure there's more, but I'm too tired. So fess up and sign on.. Now.. If I go to bed now...I'l get x hours of sleep yawn* thud! zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.... Her reputation was her livelihood. I'm a pirate, love. blackjohn
As I was one of the three people online when this was posted, I'll respond with... 1. No. In fact, truth be told, I could easily be asleep by 8. 9 or 10 is more usual. 2. 0300 I'm more than likely asleep, or for some reason my internal alarm has awaken me an hour early. 3. Haha... or to quote Mr T. "I pity da fool!" 4. Doesn't do math... at all... 5. no, not really 6. coffee... there's always a cup of coffee... if not that, cocoa! 7. yes, quite! But from the opposite end of the clock from you! 8. they frighten me... 9. my martial arts training keeps me stealthy 10. all the time... but mostly when I'm driving to work 11. yes... but... kids! when you have kids, especially two boys, you give up on ever hearing what they say on tv Once, many years ago, I was a nightowl. One of my favorite pasttimes was watching late night campy (1960s) horror flicks on Monster Chiller Horror Theatre. Now, I enjoy the quite and solitude I find from 0400 til the time when the rest of the world awakes. There is a brief moment of peace. Fleeting, I know, but in those quite hours there is something meditative in the stillness... My Home on the Web The Pirate Brethren Gallery Dreams are the glue that holds reality together. Red Cat Jenny
I've always felt that way about the wee hours.. This sort of illustrates it Down, down to the sun. Across the water where ships spin away on the wind, Reaching for distant horizons with arms of wood and tresses of rope, their sails filled like gulls wings, Down they go racing as the sun sinks into the sea. Stretching their wooden limbs to embrace it’s beckoning glow, yet never quite reaching it before the golden heat sinks below the waters. Ending the day and all it’s myriad dreams and troubles, as they slip below the sea and the cover of night makes all things quiet and equal. Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.... Her reputation was her livelihood. I'm a pirate, love. By nature and by choice! My inner voice sometimes has an accent! My wont? Silkie McDonough
Hmmmm ...I don't think I qualify. But since I'm here, I'll sign. 1) I stay up way past 1:00 PM after working until 7:30 AM ...does that count? 2) It's called lunch. Today a roast beef sandwich, coleslaw, salt and vineager chips, root beer (dag gone root!) and two chocolate chip cookies. 3) I don't creep into bed just before the sky turns light ...I often rise just before it turns dark again. 4) I am VERY familure with that mathimatical equation but with my shoes on I can't count above 10 so it's a moot point. 5) I wish I could wear fuzzy slippers and a robe where I spend my nights! They frown upon that in the office. 6) The crew on the Watch Dog can't figure out how I manage to work all night and write all morning, I consider them friends though we have never met. 7) Nah ...all I hear is the beep of the incoming call and the whine of the CUSTOMERS! 8) Not the infomercial people. Maury, Jerry, montel and the noon news people and they frighten me. 9) Not so. I would like to know why the toilet in the first stall seems to be posessed and often flushing 3 or 4 times in a row? 10) hmmmm ...why won't my associate shut her trap? Maybe if she had a pleasing voice but ...perhaps I should bring in my flintlock. 11) 10:30 AM or PM?

Rumba Rue
Usually I wake up anytime from midnight to 5 in the morning. I'm up for maybe an hour. Indulge with some stuff that will make me sleep and that's it. On rare occasions I've come online. Pretty amazing who is online at those times in the morning here in the states and abroad. CrazyCholeBlack
I'm not an insomniac. Nope, no way! I'm a major night owl though. I love the 24 hour stores & on-line shopping. Then I don't have to worry about it being 3am. Contrary to what others think, I really do sleep perfectly regular amounts. Sjöröveren
I am an unwilling insomniac. I want to sleep. I need to sleep. But I can't get to sleep most of the time. At least, I couldn't until I started taking an Rx that helps my mind "shut up" so I can drift off. That's what kept me awake. My mind simply wouldn't shut off at night. I wasn't worrying about things, reliving the day, or anything on that side of OCD. I'm over on the other side. Mostly songs running in my head, seldom good songs. Most of the time extremely awful songs, ones that I am suprised and appalled that are even in my head to begin with. Examples? How would you like to be up all night with "Let's Hear it for the Boy" or "We Belong" playing non-stop. I hated these songs from the day they debuted! I took great pains to never hear them from their opening measure! Yet here they are, keeping me awake, 20, 30 years later. That's why I take the meds. LongTom
Gotta walk away from the computer at least an hour before trying to go to bed. Something about the interactive nature of the medium.
