Deacon Frye
I note that Morgan is wearing a baskethilt.
Red Maria
I see. There were baskethilt braodswords in the 1660s, weren't there? He's also in 18th c. dress not 17th c. dress.
Deacon Frye
Baskethilts extend back into the sixteenth century. It's hard to see the details in the picture, but they were fairly well developed by Morgan's period. Quite a few baskethilts from the 17th century have been found in American digs, particularly in Virginia. He does look rather 18th-century-ish, doesn't he?
