Food for thought?

I thought about the satelites., for the GPS before I posted., and then I figures theyd be as common as the electricity to charge all of these digi devices., laptops and other modern items ?

I do like the AK idea., but anyone carryin tampons big enough to stop a ship from sinking doesnt need a tampon..., they need a doctor :) .

I'd have to bring antiseptic, anesthesia (or chloroform), sterile dressings, iodine, syringes, Vitamin C, B12, general antibiotics, soap, and some peanut butter. I know I have a few more, but it's all I can think of for right now.

antibiotics and enough food to last me, since I GREATLY doubt anyone's modern day stomachs would survive the food of the times....

Pat... Pat! Ye know full damn well an AK-47 jams after the first 20-30 rounds. Get yerself a decent P-90. Yeah, it throws NATO rounds, but in a much smaller spread. :)

Yo ho ho! Or does nobody actually say that?

"No offence gents, but in a survival situation, most modern weapons, need a lot of kit t' maintain em. If ye have t' go Rambo, a survival knife, and somethin' to start a fire, will get ye by better then the arms ye seem t' be enamored wit' here. Ammo has t' be kept dry and clean, don't drop the magazine of the P-90, and don't drop in the dirt with yer AK-47."

Well Jacky, I never thought I would say this of you...

...you're no fun! :(

yeah, but fer once 'e and I agree.

I've been discussing with everyone who'll listen since the thread started. I can see some merit to long range modern weaponry. It would give a pyrate the instant upper hand if they can pick people off at say, a mile distance. So if superiority is yer thing, 'ave at it.

But that's just not how I want to go back. I figure if I'm going back then I'll take the illness, rotten food & unwashed masses because that's what it was like. I don't want to impose my modern mentality on my surroundings, I want to experience them in as genuine a way as possible.

Oi! I'm a blast at parties I tell ya!

Well, even tho I started this, I agree to some extent....my thinking was we're coming form our vacinated, analyzed, medicated, portable massager modern times. :(

I would want to enjoy all the excitement and adventure possible and live to enjoy th memories after. So the vitamins, asperin, antibiotics would just be t insure I made it through able t have as much experience in th process, not lying in a sickroom below decks rotting away (ew)

I wouldn't take an AK-47, but I opted for a small, concealable high powered firearm IN ADDITION to being able to aquire and use period weaponry. (What fun would it be if you couldn't be authentic?) but considering the situations you could get into with ruthless people where the tables suddenly turn...well as I said in extreme odds I'd like t' keep me head situated where it is.

I don't think any pirate avoided hedging a bet if they could. Why play fair? :o

In that case I need to modify my list again. I'll just modify Red Cat Jenny's list a bit.

1. Very small and concealable, waterproof, digital camera, batteries and billions of mega pixels worth of memory cards, and a macro/zoom lens (three of each). No Laptop, No flash,

2. Glock ...why not, could come in handy.

One years supply of:

3. Birth control pills - one can nearly eliminate the need for feminine hygiene products that way.

4. Drawing paper, large sheets and a portfolio to carry them in

5. Eye glasses

6. Sun glasses

7. Antibiotic

8. pepper spray

9. backpacker water purifier

10. multi vitiman

11. wind proof lighter

Hey! I have one more ...how about a aramid vest? Would I actually need something that tough if I didn't come across any of these time travelers?

Posted

OK, well let's see

1. antibotics (plenty of em)

2. water purifier tablets (lots of em)

3. cutlass made out of never need shapening metal (you know the type...LOL)

4. daggers (same as above)

5. Uzi...special made to look more of the times but, with lots of extra ammo.

6. condoms...(ya, I be female but correct me if I be wrong syphillis and gono was rappant during the time)

7. ship with motor...for fast get aways...(ya m'crew would love to fit in and, it would have sails..but, if'n a man of war is head'n my way...hey pirate)

8. multi-vitamins (year's supply)

9. a very small video recorder with audio on it. (wouldn't you love to hear as well as see) lots of batteries and vid cards.

10. History vid cards so I can see where the ships with the most booty were and when, as well as, when the hurricanes and trop storms were.

11. (looking to #7) Ummm yep need me crew...include one modern Doc...

12. my CERT first aid/survival kit..

yep that would just about do it.

It seems that the priorities for going back differ a great deal. Those that look on it as a survivalist camp, and those who look on it as a chance to experience history up close and personal. The honest truth is, the past can't exist in the present, nor can the present exist in the past. Apples and oranges - try to mix them, and you end up with applesause that doesn't taste good.
