Gentleman of Fortune Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 I did a quick google scan for an ash pole (between 1-1.5 inch diameter) to attach a boarding pike head to. I am not coming up with anything.... I think for our period, we need at least 8'. Any ideas? Alder Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 The best I was able to locate was 84" long x 1 1/4" diameter http://www.firebloodarms.com/FB10009.html Custom might be possible but expensive http://www.alexandriamoulding.com/ If I get a chance I will check other sources. Gentleman of Fortune Posted October 4, 2006 Author Posted October 4, 2006 Maybe I am not just looking for the right words either.... I got a few more results with searching for Ash Dowel, by the largest one online is 48". I am assuming that I can e-mail those companies and see if they can do 96" or longer.... Patrick Hand Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Didn't Musiem Replicas carry ash poles a few years ago?
Fox Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 You can probably pick one up at TORM, but getting it home might be fun! A lot of hardware shops in the UK carry thick ash dowel in longer lengths as well, if I have time I'll see what I can find you. I'm not convinced that boarding pikes need to be all of 8'. Traditional "half pikes" should have been 7-8', but later boarding pikes were often as little as 6' Foxe"With this Fore-Staff he fansies he does Wonders, when, God knows, it amounts to no more but only to solve that simple Question, Where are we? Captain Midnight Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Ahoy Greg, I used to be a late Roman reenactor and bought the ash shaft for my spear from a mail order company called By The Sword. Spears and Ash Poles They are a company out of Florida in the USA, and I have gotten very good service from them in the past. I believe the shaft is about $30 U.S. The shaft I bought for my spear is 7 feet long. Hope this helps you out. "Now then, me bullies!
