Captain Jim
A question: Would not an original have been tarred or pitched in order to preserve it, make it stiffer and more effective? My occupational hazard bein' my occupation's just not around...
Fox
I've seen a couple of originals and they weren't tarred. Hemp, unless left in complete damp, is one of the more durable ropes; and the force of the whip is because of its speed, so tarring it would make it less effective (but still damned painful one imagines). Fox
OK, I've just costed up the materials properly and timed myself making a cat and I reckon I could do them for $50 +shipping if anyone did want one. Red-Handed Jill
I made one that is public-safe: It's gotten a lot more worn and grubby.
