The Doctor Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Sabers Apollo /+, son of Saber Bey and Gamarief, passed away this evening due to complications from colic, at the age of 22. Rest in peace, our beloved son. Yo ho ho! Or does nobody actually say that?
Captain Jim Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Don't ye know that all good horses and good dogs go to heaven, and if we turn out to be half the people that they thought we were, we'll see them again. Condolences, mate. My occupational hazard bein' my occupation's just not around...
Rumba Rue Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Tis sad thing to loose a beloved animal. But he died at a grand age and his service to you I hope was just as grand.

The Doctor Posted September 3, 2006 Author Posted September 3, 2006 Thank you, my fellow equestians. I am graced to have known and shown Apollo. He taught me so much, and we won so many classes together! He was, in my mind, the perfect Arabian horse. Intelligent, skilled, and talented. I could say that it shouldn't have happened this way, but I don't know any other way it could have happened. He passed quickly and humanely. I closed his eyes and mouth, and gave him Last Rights in Spanish; the grooms broke down in tears, mourning the passing of "El Caballo Rojo Magnifico". An era has ended. Long live Apollo! Yo ho ho! Or does nobody actually say that?
callenish gunner Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 sorry to read of your loss lad ....but he had a true friend in you and let's hope the day comes when you get to see him again ....and rides the heavens with him :)
Mimi Foxmorton Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 I know not o' hea'en, sir...but, I do know the Pirate Ship Sea Grace t' bring great comfort t' all who say farewell t' a four legged friend an' companion..... Past th' very edge o' th' horizon where no live mate may dwell stands a pirate ship that's oh, so grand or, so the legends tell. She floats in clear blue waters off th' sands o' a tropical beach. And try as we might t' find her 'tis out o' th' live pirate's reach. Her name be th' pirate ship Sea Grace and her one great job it be t' welcome th' fur an' th' hearts an' th' paws o' our four legged friends gone t' sea. They frolic an' tussle an' bound forth. They pillage an' plunder it be true. For th' ache in their ol' bones has left them. And now they be waitin' for you. For when an ol' pirate takes his last breath and crosses that far distant sea th' Sea Grace will be there for welcome an' yer fine matey will be there t' greet ye. Together again for eternity. Your Jolly Jack flyin' wit' pride. Th' wind in yer hair an' a tongue on yer face in your pirate ship fore'er side by side. MLRF '04 May ye finds a small comfort in knowin'....an' an e'en greater comfort in believin'... ~Foxmorton
Aurore Devareaux Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 My deepest sympathies to you, sir. The loss of such noble compainonship is a wretching of the soul. That his angst was short lived is but a small reprieve to his absence. May he now dwell peacefully within the comradery of all the greatest four legged brethren that paved the road afore him. Ransom Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 I can't believe I missed this post! Jack, the sentiments may be late, but I'm sorry you lost your good friend. I too lost my little arab gelding to colic when he was 19. It is gut-wrenching, yet you will always have your memories, and if you're anything like me, you'll have lots of pictures of Apollo to treasure. ...schooners, islands, and maroons and buccaneers and buried gold... You can do everything right, strictly according to procedure, on the ocean, and it'll still kill you. But if you're a good navigator, a least you'll know where you were when you died.......From The Ship Killer by Justin Scott.
