Now my problem it time and money :) Any advice on what I might want to watch out for before I start? Git up of your asses, set up those glasses I'm drinking this place dry.

JohnnyTarr Posted August 7, 2006 Author Posted August 7, 2006 Ok for once I can say that I only recieved one good comment from this board. Come on people I know that you can do better than silly remarks. Now this week is payday and I am planing to goto the lumberyard to get a start. I am starting on frame #3 because it will be removed at the end. I will keep you all posted as to how it is comming along because I know that you all are just so interesed in it. Git up of your asses, set up those glasses I'm drinking this place dry.
Dread Mark Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 Sounds like a fun project. Take some photos as you go so we can see your progress. Pick your lumber well... Measure twice ...
Patrick Hand Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 I found a site on making plywood and fiber glass boats..... and wanted to try making one.... Ok... the first attempt was a total flop.... and my Boss gives me a hard time about that..... But sence then. I found out what I did wrong....... But I think I have figgured out how to make a Pirogue,.... I have a few parts cut out.... but I didn't wanna post anything untill I made it (and found out if it floated or not) I'm running into a conflict of time..... I have a second job, so I can afford to buy some fun stuff..... but I don't have the time to make any of it.... well untill Winter.... Drat.... So the boat may or may not ever get built.... but it might..... heck... I want to make it........ I think the worst part is.... I have an idea in my head on how the boat will work.... and how it will look... but untill I actully build it, I won't know if the idea is right...... So of course I want to make it and find out........ Hey.... I bought two life jackets at a yard sale for my boat..... so now I guess I HAVE to make it......
JohnnyTarr Posted August 13, 2006 Author Posted August 13, 2006 Hey Patrick, keep in touch I would like to know how you are doing. Git up of your asses, set up those glasses I'm drinking this place dry.
Rumba Rue Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 Well you can always buy the Boy Scout ship the Argus. Ok so it'll only take 75k or more to make it useable....
Patrick Hand Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 Hey Patrick, keep in touch I would like to know how you are doing. Well I figgured I would take photos as I worked on it... and post them if the dang thing floated..... if it sank, ... Well then I wouldn't post anything....
Captain Bob Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 Well I figgured I would take photos as I worked on it... and post them if the dang thing floated..... if it sank, ... Well then I wouldn't post anything.... If it sinks, just pretend you were really building a submarine and just wanted to throw us off the track.
Raging_Robbie Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 My next boat project will be a South Haven Dory. http://cruisenews.net/construction.html There are other sites where builders have tracked the contruction of their own Dory projects. I want something light and slippery for rowing in the local lake. I have a Pacer sailing dinghy (with rowlocks) that lives at the yacht club down the beach, but that is 90 minutes away. The stitch and glue Dory has a real wooden boat look without all the hassle. Please do post your pics as your project progresses.

MorganTyre Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 I've wondered about that one for some time. It's a pretty little boat. Let us know how things turn out. I think I may try my hand at a model one.
Patrick Hand Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Just an update on the pirogue project.... Other than getting some bondo and glue, (I still have to get the plywood, fiberglass and resin) I haven't done much more with it....Work and a new pair of (buckle) shoes kinda got in the way.... I might be able to get some of it done befor it snows.... but right now it looks like it won't be untill next Spring befor I can really get much done.... (Unless we have a late Winter.... but the dang duck are already flying North..... so there is no telling about that.......)
JohnnyTarr Posted September 7, 2006 Author Posted September 7, 2006 Hey I'm just getting my hand on a location for lumber. I can't belive how hard it was to find white oak in the size I wanted. Git up of your asses, set up those glasses I'm drinking this place dry.
flagman1776 Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 I know this is an old thread. Might I suggest Edson L. Schock's book How to build small boats. My father knew Professor Schock & built some of the designs. They were designed to be reasonably built by the home builder. http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B001K9297W/ref=dp_olp_used_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=used Exeter, Rhode Island admin http://www.msrefugees.proboards.com/
