Matusalem Posted July 12, 2006 Share Posted July 12, 2006 Where is the HMS Rose berthed these days? If anyone recalls, this was the ship used in the film Master & Commander. I specifically have fond memories of seeing this ship quite frequently back in the 80's in Bridgeport, Ct when i went to college there. I know they dismantled the sets, but maybe one day they will do another Jack Aubry movie and she'll sail on the screen again. William Blydes I don't get lost, I EXPLORE! The below decks are decorated like they were for Master and Commander, really cool. She is in need of major repairs before she can sail again. That's why there's a charge to get aboard her. Took lots of pics - here are a few: It's still named the Surprise - Fox's lease on it has not expired, so they aren't restoring it back until it is. According to the docent on board, the plan is to turn it into a pirate ship and do piratical sails. Sterling Posted July 16, 2006 Share Posted July 16, 2006 I got to fight on her for a reenactment of the Battle of Groton, back in the 80s... what a blast... attacking the fort, then down over the side in to boats and rowed to the beach... just TOO cool!
