Black Syren Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Do you mind being called a wench? I for one would rather be called a Pyrate than a wench and seeing as how there be a diffrence between the monikers which do ye prefer and why? Would ye think it a compliment to be called a wench. Silkie McDonough Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 I do not like to be called a wench. Silkie however, until I outfit her with at least a sword, is unfortunately just that ...a wench. I prefer lass or just Silkie. Once I have more than the garb of a wench and some way to defend myself against such title I will demand that pirate be used when referencing me. Dictionary.com defines Wench as: 1. A young woman or girl, especially a peasant girl. 2. A woman servant. 3. A wanton woman. So, it doesn't have to be a derogitory remark.
Merrydeath Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Merrydeath is a pirate lass.. or plunder bunny. I am a wench at some of the ren faires, but I prefer pirate.. that way I can be mean and nasty and not get yelled at. Pirates are just water terrorists... and they rule the seas, and no, we don't cry out 'Cobra'. :) Pirate Lass with sass, brass, a cutlass, an a nice *ss. Asukaru Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 I don't mind being called a wench, in fact I prefer it. However a lot of that has to do with being cast as a Wench in my maze at Haunt. Confessions of a Wicked Wench ~ Myspace! ~ Handlebars @ DeviantArt
Black Syren Posted June 30, 2006 Author Posted June 30, 2006 ok Say for instance you join another pirate forum...And like on the Pub you introduce yourself in character. *now keep in mind tis playful* And ye get called a wench and ye narrow yer eyes and declare yerself not a wench which suddenly opens a whole can of worms.. And now yer being told that you are romaticizing pyracy and should be thrilled to be called a wench. Now since apparently ye have stepped on toes ye apologize profusely and say tis in character..Would ye still like to be called a wench? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v519/Dara286/trident01-11.png If you got a dream chase it, cause a dream won't chase you back...(Cody Johnson Till you Can't)
Rumba Rue Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Most of the time I just ignore being called wench. I consider myself a Lady, maybe a shady Lady, but one just the same. I don't consider myself a pirate, never have. I consider myself more like a consort/Madame to put it nicely. I live a nice life with generous money from the opposite sex. But have been known to pick a pocket or two.
Black Syren Posted June 30, 2006 Author Posted June 30, 2006 indeed..Thank ye Rumba..Hey Merry Im a fellow Plunder Bunny too, Even have a cottontail.. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v519/Dara286/trident01-11.png If you got a dream chase it, cause a dream won't chase you back...(Cody Johnson Till you Can't)

PirateQueen Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 I don't mind, doesn't offend me. I've been called worse. Melusine de la Mer "Well behaved women rarely make history." - Laurel Thatcher Ulrich
Gigi Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 I suppose it would matter on the context...I mean, when at faire I do play a French whore, so I could easily be called worse.
Lady Seahawke Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 Actually, the term "Wench" during the PotC era just meant peasant girl or serving girl. "Common Wench" meant basically streetwalker. Asukaru Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 I suppose it would matter on the context... I have to second you there. I guess I need to revise my earlier desicion now... I don't mind being called a wench, but it really depends on who's saying it, and how they're saying it. Like if my good guy friends were to call me a wench... well, I'd backhand him... but then I usually end up beating him up no matter what he calls me Ours is an odd relationship... Red-Handed Jill Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 I generally am garbed as a pyrate rather than a wench. On those occasions when I am dressed in a skirt and bodice, most of my accoutrement has sharp edges, so actually calling me a wench could have consequences...

BLACK JACK SHALAQ Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 I be Black Jack's better half "Shanghia Sooz". And I never let words bother me too much. Jack gets 'is skivies in a wad from time to time and the words fly! Wench, Harlot, Bit**, Slu*, you name it. After he fires off a couple volleys n' let's 'is barrel cool off he apologizes then it's MY turn. It usally ends up with flowers, dinner n' a show (chick flick of course!). He hasn't seen the pattern after 27 yrs. of marriage! YER ANKLES WILL LOOK LOVELY BEHIND YER EARS LASSIE! HAR! HAR! HAR!
Red Dog Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 just a male point point of view, I've always been uncomfortable addressing a lady, any lady, as a wench. I understand it may have been an actual job title, but the meaning has been bastardised in current times. Words such as "cock, gay, and water sports" don't have the meaning they originally carried either. I just choose the respectful route.
Sealegs Constance Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Hummmm Let me see I will not get affended if someone were to call me wench. I do prefer Pyate. My garb is geared for pyrate not wench. Sealegs Constance I am what I am
buxom_wench Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 I don't mind... heehee I agree it is the context that it is used, 'pirate' can be used in a negative way too you know To me 'wench' has a raw, playful, femanine meaning.

Merrydeath Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 I'm both a wench and pirate, and would like to coin the title.. Booty Bitch, since a Merc/ wench combo is a Battle Bitch..
