Hawkyns
Gentlemen Appreciative as I am of the female form (few more so), I received acouple of complaints about the pic being in this thread. I have edited the post and removed the link. Sorry, chaps, but we do have a certain level to amintain on this forum. I now return you to cocked hats. Hawkyns Cannon add dignity to what otherwise would be merely an ugly brawl I do what I do for my own reasons. I do not require anyone to follow me. Gentleman of Fortune
awwhhhhh phoey! considering the rarity of cocked hat pornography, I would have thought it might be better appreciated. kass
One would have thought it's no worse than some of the things on other threads of this board... I mean some of those bodices you people wear are quite shocking! And as the resident local prude, if I didn't mind, why would anyone else? But I digress. This IS supposed to be a forum for the discussion of scholarly things... Ahem... Building an Empire... one prickety stitch at a time!
blackjohn
Why? Because she was hot, and there was an extremely teeny bit of nipple showing. Oh my god! Humans have nipples!?!?! Shameful! What I object to was the rest of her attire. It was hardly accurate. My Home on the Web The Pirate Brethren Gallery Dreams are the glue that holds reality together. Kathyrn Ramsey
I am far from being prudish, but if my ex husband saw my 10 year old son looking at that he would fly off the handle and he looks at the board from time to time...And as a mother I would have a problem with it if he was looking at it too. There is a place for pictures like that and this is not one of them... And considering the job i just quit you would understand...
Gentleman of Fortune
You know John... I am trying to be a little more lenient with those that are "authentically" challenged.... and I was starting with the girl in the cocked hat..... Oh well... Gentleman of Fortune
What????? Hey K Ramsey.... I am not sure that the picture I posted is the thing you and your husband should be the most concerned about at the pub. Somebody is bound to encourage alcohol comsumption in INITIATION RITES & PUB MANAGEMENT by buying him ar round, and If you have not done so, you might check into "Way to a Pirates Heart" or "Beyond Piracy", and "Rable Rousing" for some really racy post, pictures, threads, and games.... I mean, hey, if I was a 10 year old boy I would be making a B-line to the "Adult Game", "The Dating Game", Courting in th Kitchen (Subtitled "tales of debautchery, or harmless fun"), The Hot Tub, and I would definately check out the thread on the "Adult Pirate Movie" (complete with links). I guess in comparison, a girl in a tricorn with clevage and 1/8th of one nipple showing IS probably too much... You might just want to make the whole pub off limits.... kass
Precisely the point I was trying to make. Thank you Greg for putting it so well! There are parts of this forum that I don't let MYSELF look at. But that picture was far from the worst offender. As the other moderator of this board besides Hawkyns, I would like to think that my opinion counts at least as much as his. And no one complained about the picture to me. Building an Empire... one prickety stitch at a time!
blackjohn
We should probably just forget this whole thing. But before we do, in this pirates humble opinion, the growth of the Net is driven by porn, sex, etc. Sure, it has its legit side, but human nature is what it is. I agree with GoF in that this place is far from squeeky clean. I believe it is up to the individual must provide their own protection, either through surf control or even better, parental guidance. That's about all I have to say. I think I'll go back to polishing my cock now. Cock. That's part of a musket. Look it up if you don't believe me. Hawkyns
OK, guys. I made the decision and I'll take the heat for it. On the other adult threads, I see no problem with the post. Hell, it was a good photo, even if she is too skinny. But Twill is supposed to be the bastion of authenticity on a board that is getting raunchier by the day. I've been at hotels and been able to get to Twill, even when I can't get to half the board because the Net Nanny programs block all the adult threads and a bunch of the others. Even the word 'nipple' will block this thread from most of them. I'm walking a fine line here, as are most of the mods. I've caught heat for being too lenient and now for not being lenient enough. Can't win, but that's the path the mods have to tread, I guess. So I made the decision to err on the side of keeping this thread scholarly and G rated. So shoot me. kass
I wouldn't shoot you either, Rod. However, if your reasoning is based on the non-scholarly nature of the thread, before you acted, it had already come back to a thread about hats and what is appropriate to the period and where you can buy them. So I think editing the thread was a mute point by then. And since no one emailed me any complaints at all, I saw no reason to act. This is an overview of what I was thinking in my capacity as co-moderator of this forum, just in case you wanted to know... Building an Empire... one prickety stitch at a time! Jack Roberts
Well it seems I missed a bit of excitment on this tread. :) So let me see if I can get it back on track. I just bought some felt hat blanks from Jas Townsend, and I'm to cock them. One is for my wife and the other is for me. The pics I have are for my hat but the other is similar. Anyways I want to trim the edges with a band of ribbon and just want to know should I cut the edge and then trim? In the senond pic you can see the length of the brim. One side is 4.75" and other is 4.5". So it looks like I may have to cut and trim. But how wide can the trim be? I want to trim it like this (I hope they don't mind I borrowed their pic. Gentleman of Fortune ) I plan on using X's for the pattern on where I sew the brim up. So thats alot to say but thanks in advance for any help. Rob PS Any weather proofing techniques I might be able to treat the felt with?
Gentleman of Fortune
The picture of my hat that you "pirated" has worsted wool hat trim/braid. You can get it from here http://wmboothdraper.com/Tape&Lace/tapelace.htm Hat making and shaping has a lot of personal prefrence built in to it. I would suggest that you look at the http://www.gentlemenoffortune.com/tricorne.htm page and click the picture of tricorn development. It will give you a good idea of what GAoP hats should/can look like. Wool felt shapes pretty easy when you steam it. Period hat seem to have a lower flatter crown. I read somewhere once that they were blocked on a round form and not an oval head shaped one. Please post pictures of what you come up with as I am sure we would all like to see it!
