We have created the ships (not from kits) and they will be ready by end of April if not a little sooner. Just looking for ideas. Model Pirate Ships! She looks pretty much exactly like you'd see her if you went to Mystic today. As for pirate ships, I'd recommend the Lady Washington (an 18th Century merchant ship, the replica played HMS Interceptor in Pirates of the Caribbean). She'd probably be a fairly common size/design for that era of piracy. However, if you can find good info on Kidd's 'Adventure Galley', it would be nice to see as well. I'm sure the Wydah would sell nicely too. Good luck with that and I can't wait to see new models. I've already bookmarked your site. Captain Jim-sib Posted April 3, 2006 Share Posted April 3, 2006 Black sails = dye = $$$. Not really accurate. Natural color of the canvas was preferred. Insignias of different color would have been sewn directly onto the sails. Only the very, very wealthy folks could afford colored canvas, and that would have eventually been bleach by the sun. For posterity, we do have white sails :) We have a company in China that handcrafts our ships. They make these exclusively for us. Customers have told us they have had problems with Vietnemese ships - fortunately for us, we do not have any business in Viet Nam. We have our business manager going to China shortly to make sure they are crafting and building exactly how we send them the CAD drawings , measurements, etc. That might be too much info....but, hey, I welcome questions! As for me I am still in the considerin stage as eyes has me hands full at the momment.
